  1. I bought a pack of these on a whim to shoot at indoor ranges that frown on me showing up with full sized uspsa targets: http://www.dawsonpre...0FEC-1304967910

Now i'm just trying to figure out the distance/scale thing and I suck at math.

The targets are 2/3rd size so does that mean for a given distance that i set them at divide by 2 and multiply by 3?

    target distance |scaled equivalent

    7 10.5

    10 15

    15 22.5

thats what I came up with so far with my math. I was working on tracking the front sight at 15 yards as well as shot calling. the perfs are way too shallow to see reliabliy indoors and I dont want to get in the habit of just shooting at brown so I think i may sharpie off the a-zone next time.

on a few 10 round strings of this - everything lined up - grip - vision - stance and the sight just floated back down to where it should be in the notch for the next shot.

Looks like you have the math correct.

  2. While watching myself on video, I have noticed that my steps into and out of shooting boxes is good, but when I'm moving to shoot around a barricade or other object my steps appear to be short stutter steps, and i end up wasting lots of time. I try to come to a stop with strong side foot first ( brake) and then support foot does the final plant. Should my steps be llong smooth strides, use a distance of 4-5 yards, or short steps? Any help or tips would be appreciated.

When approaching a barricade from the rear left or rear right:

    • I plant the left foot first for a right side setup
    • I plant the right foot first for a left side setup

  4. Special Thank you to Bob Perdue at North Mountain for his new magnetic moon clip holder

We recommend this to all Revo shooters. We played with this today at the range and it worked fantastic.

    Thank you again Bob!!!!

    BobbieJo & Mark

That is a really cool idea. I will have to pick some up before I shoot ESR again.

  5. I'm not sure what my draw time is but string 1-3 on stage one is in the ballpark of 2.5-2.8. So I'm figuring my draw is too slow. I guess I'll have to get faster at that.

Looking at my records my SSP MA classifier String 1, 2, 3 on Stage 1 were all under 2.5 seconds total time adjusted. You should be able to draw and Moz a target from 7 yds in 1.90-2.50 total time.

  6. So what do you guys recommend when it comes to trying to move up from Expert to Master? I just shot the classifier three times this weekend and ended up as EX in SSP, ESP, and SSR. I know that in general I'll have to start working on shaving time off every aspect of the process, but does anyone have any tips on what specifically to focus on to get you over the top? Maybe something that you see as often distinguishing the masters from the experts?

You really need to know your times to know what to improve.

What were your transition times at 7, 10, 20 yards?

    Draw to first shot?

    Split times?

    Reloads?

    How was your accuracy?

For example you could have been 0 down on the classifier but took way to long to transition.

Conversely you could have been fast as lightning on the draw and reload but 75 points dow.

  7. I agree and understand what youre talking about Brian.

Im hoping to use his post to steer the ship down the path of these being accepted. Again it seems like in everyones opinions these meet the rules.

We just have to get psst the MD subjectiveness you talked about.

Thanks for your help trying to get this topic undetstood.

I wish IDPA would use an objective approach. The folks at IDPA mean well and when they wrote the book they were simply trying to reiterate the "goal" of the organization. Unfortunately this "Goal" and my other favorite phrase "Intent of the Stage" are quite subjective and get abused at times by MDs. No one is the winner when there is inconsistent officiating or officiating based on opinions rather than facts.

I would bet if you wore the CR Speed double pouch or single pouch to 10 Sanctioned IDPA matches this year your likely result would be 3 DQs, 3 Warnings with FTDRs issued for Comp only Equipment, and 3-4 times when the pouches are not an issue.

I know the holster list was a PITA when they had that process. The standards they have outlined in the 2005 book are fine, they just need to cut out the subjective modifiers that MDs sometimes abuse.

  8. UPDATE

Check over on IDPA Forum where I received a response from Bubba.

It seems the Double Pouch from CR is good to go....based on how the rulebook is written anyway

    Ryan Spencer

Terry kind of danced around the issue. I put a follow up post on the IDPA forum stating what I think is the root cause:

    Terry,

Thanks for the opinion. If I remember correctly the last time these were discussed they were deemed to possibly be "competition only" gear thus falling through the "subjective opinion" cracks in the current rule book. Which leads to issues at major matches where the MD's opinion may be competition only citing Page 1, Page 4 and Page 34 of the current rule book where the statement ""Competition only" equipment is not permitted in this sport."

Thus we are left with a subjective opinion test rather than a standard. These subjective statements tend to get abused like the "Commerce Clause"

One could go so far as to say a Comp-Tac holster would not pass the test according to Page 34: "D. Holsters designed and/or marketed as "competition" models." Such as the already IDPA legal Pro Competition Kit: http://www.comp-tac....products_id=128

One rulebook suggestion I have that would alleviate most of this issue is to get rid of the "subjective judgement" statements in the rule book.

  9. Nice silver knobs hanging out in the breeze.

    And hole.

Do the knobs make them illegal?

I too have been researching this a lot lately and i cant find any rule making this illegal. Especially the double pouch since its closer to the body.

You can reverse the knobs and have the knobs on the inside. Reversing the knobs would keep them from catching on the cover garment.

  10. I have been wondering when someone was going to get hooked up with Taurus. I bet they paid her nicely. I was most suprised to see that se has already remarried. I guess some people learn the hard way.

She married her co-worker from Friends of NRA TV.

  11. I have 4 CR Speed Pouches and I am trying to figure out a quick way to change them back and forth between CZ mags and STI. The STI spacer is easy enough to put in and take out, however the CZ spacer requires taking out the thumb screw. Is the tab that fits under the thumb screw necessary on the CZ spacer? I was thinking of cutting the tab off or notching it to fit in and out without removing the thumb screw.

    Any thoughts?

  12. Beware, powerfactor will sell you bullets they don't have in stock. The website indicates they have bullets in stock but they may not be.

Ive been satisfied with their pulled pistol bullets. They ship fast if theyre in stock, if not its a wait.

Do you have any details for a specific instance when this occurred? The last time I had a vendor (Brownells) call me and tell me there was in issue with an order I had it took all of 5 minutes to resolve. I know from time to time online retailers may have a disconnect in the online vs. the physical inventory, however it is not the norm.

All my orders for pulled bullets from Power Factor have arrived within a couple of days of me ordering them.

  13. I don't see how that could be IDPA legal. I am not an IDPA shooter or SO so I can't say that with certainty, but the replacement trigger strikes me as problematic.

Provided the replacement trigger did not override any of the firearms safeties, the M&P would be put in ESP. Similar to the Glocks with a Glockworks trigger in IDPA.
