  3. I am just trying to understand the numbers.

Some how, I can host a successful Level 2 match with an $80 entry fee that includes $4000 in guns to give away, match shirts INCLUDED, meals for the competitors INCLUDED, and still enable the host USPSA club to come away from the match with a small profit for their efforts. This is also done with only 150 entries. Yes this match will require the volunteer efforts of many people to happen successfully. What match doesn't require volunteer help? But as the MD of prior Level 2 matches, when I ran short on volunteer help, I did invest in day laborers to get some of the grunt work done. I gladly paid a few day laborers to pound nails and move props around all day long.

There are always circumstances or expenses that "consumers" don't know about in running a major match. Price your match accordingly to make it successful and let the customers rate the success of the match by their willingness to attend or assist with running the match.

What did you say your range fee per shooter was again? I think I remember this conversation after last years match.

  4. When a major match charges a $150 entry fee and has 200 Shooters, there should be plenty of "Extra Money" to hire people to setup stages. The whole argument of there not being enough volunteer help when the match income is $30K+ really does not hold much weight.

Even if the stage setup process was performed using 100% volunteer resources, if the MD didn't wrangle up a sufficient amount of help well before the "Bust your ass" setup days that is all their fault.

Thank you Charlie for this moment of drama...

I think we had this discussion last year, do you really want to get into the budget again? I think you know 1. we do not have 200 paid entries as staff does not pay, and 2. these matches are a break even proposition by the time everything is paid for. Last years CTC was in the red, this years may be in the black but if it is it will not be by much.

Further, If we did hire folks to do setup then there would be bitching we robbed the prize table or we gypped the shooters in some other area. The gentlemen in charge of the stages had resources at their disposal, if those volunteers chose to bust their asses for the benefit of the shooters then that is their business.

  5. Just wanted to say thanks to all the staff and RO"s, Directors ETC.

Does anyone know who donated the STI pistols? Was it STI directly?

The STI's came from Dawson Precision, the Cross Timbers Club paid for 50% of all Dawson Precision products that were given out as prizes.

Actually Randy you are half right. Dawson sponsored the match with their standard package. The guns were bought by CTASA (not at a discount) from Dawson.

Dave supports our match year after year and we support his business.

  6. What are your opinions on how strictly rules should be followed at club level matches? If someone wants to run their USPSA gun that would be SSP or ESP legal except it is 1-2 oz heavy, should they be allowed to do that? Should PF be tested? Allow stippling in SSP? Or should you just try to keep things within a reasonable range and leave the strict rules to the bigger matches?

Can I shoot my MP5 at your USPSA matches? Thought I would ask.

  7. We started a wait list for Cowtown Classic. it can be found here https://docs.google.com/forms/d/18DkmjA10DP29j-KYhJnfiidlFD1u9kRzQUlL4JeTABQ/viewform?usp=send_form

As with all matches there will be cancellations and people shifting from paid to sponsored spots, which opens up a few spaces. We are going strictly by the wait list from here forward so please do not call me and request I put you in the match etc. My first question is going to be are you on the wait list.

  9. Talk about how well it went, and how many matches had you shot before you did your qualifier.

I shot my first one this past weekend after my third ever match. Lets just say we'll chalk that one up to experience. Then again, I had one stage that last weekend in the regular match that Steve Wonder could have shot better than I did. BRUTAL was the word for the weekend!

There is no such thing as a qualifier in IDPA Or in USPSA. Perhaps you are confused with Formula 1 racing

  10. Forgive my ignorance, but how do shooters correlate their squad number to a stage number? The Squad Schedule shows Stage X vs Squad X listing. When you look at the "Match Book" listing the stages, none of the stages are named "Stage X" and the bay diagram on the bottom of the WSB does not list Stage numbers. How are shooters suppose to figure out this puzzle of stage names, stage numbers, and Bay numbers?

That is on page 9 of the IDPA rulebook ...

We need to number the stages, that is step 2085 and we are still on step 1961 of our 3253 item ToDo list
