I'm glad the student made a decision that he's happier with, and one that doesn't require as much personal investment.
I tend to research and such, so I was aware of the manufacturer suggestions prior to purchase. As I specifically wanted an SFx, I was absolutely content to put forth the effort to ensure everything went smoothly with a gun that I pointedly sought out and purchased. To each, their own, I suppose.

You obviously missed the whole point... So you are a gun person, just like someone is a car person, but the average person are neither. A large number of folks who go to a training class may never put 300 rounds thru their gun in a lifetime. They do not need a "personal investment". If I buy a new toaster do I need a "personal investment" and try and toast 3-400 pieces of bread, before my toaster actually toasts a piece of bread? A gun that doesn't work straight out of the box with any amunition that it is chambered for is dangerous and should carry a warning label...in big letters on the outside of the box..and maybe the slide??

Well, the student solved the problem. Sold the Canik and bought a Glock.
This is 2023, not 1980. Having to break a gun in went out in the 90's.

Just what the average gun owner needs..a pistol that does not work with the ammo it is chambered for right out of the box..priceless..I guess?

Check out the Canik Fanatik Forum.
It's all about Canik and they are very helpful.

This is a website?

I've read that Canik suggests that their guns be broken in with 124g NATO loads. Was this performed with this student's SFx?

Good information. The problem always is...folks show up what the gun shop sold them. I do not see much 124 grain 9MM on the square range. Figure someone here has had the same issue and there is a spring that could be purchased to solve this problem. The FTE problem doesn't give the students confidence and does nothing to help Canik.

Memorial Service for Tiger McKeeMemorial services for our colleague and friend Tiger McKee will be held at 2PM (Central) this Sunday, April 23, at Grace Fellowship Church, 925 West Main Street, Albertville, Alabama. The family is requesting casual dress -even blue jeans- in honor of Tiger.

when starting out shoot what will reliably in your gun and that you can find easily.
Good advice. Also as broadside72 mentioned, "until you figure out the game and what works for you and your gun, then whatever you can afford as long as it makes power factor."
Just need to get out and shoot. There are a lot of folks out there that will help.

Plenty of good points here with reference to OAL. We need to remember that OAL is just a "guide" number, that is used as a reference. It is a somewhat "made up" number that falls with in a magazine's internal dimension. For a given published bullet, OAL is referenced for a number of reasons: magazine dimension, SAAMI spec, published pressures, feeding, crimping and probably some corporate attorney had to sign off on it? I see pistols regularly on the range that have issues with failure to chamber and for years it was almost always attributed to the infamous "Glock Bulge". After close inspection, the great percentage of the FTC are cause by OAL issues and have nothing to do with the case sized dimensions. Taurus G2's are famous for this.
The issue is almost always the leade or the throat of your barrel and its relationship with the ogive of your bullet. Now I don't want to start a whole new thread on whether the bullet should jump into the rifling or the bullet should be kissing the rifling. That is a issue that barrel maufacturers and customers need to decide for themselves. I just want to make aware that your ammunition can possibly pass the plunk test and the OAL test, but not pass the throat/leade and bullet ogive test. Since there is not a standard bullet ogive location there is no way to guarentee that a given bullet, at a given OAL will chamber in your gun.
A good test that we have used for years is: drop the loaded round in your chamber (the plunk test?) and then apply a bit of thumb pressure to the base of the case, then see if you can turn (spin) the case in the chamber. If the case is sized and crimped correctly it should turn since the round headspaces on the mouth. If it doesn't spin most likely the bullet is hung-up in the throat or the leade and your OAL is too long for that chamber.

I recently had a student in a pistol class that was shooting a CANIK, TP9SFX, 5.25 pistol. From the first shot he fired he had FTE completely/stove pipes. He started with Sterling 115 grain 9MM and we chronographed it at 1100+. We tried Blazer and Winchester white box with the same results. The firearm came with two recoil springs and we tried them both. We have contacted Century, but they are painfully slow in responding.
Has anyone else had this issue, if so, what was your solution? Does someone sell reduced power recoil springs?

Iroy,
Thanx for your input and your suggestion. I'll move this question to that forum.

I have been using TK's in my 986, with mixed brass and have had no issues (yet).

This:
Quote2. Grip strength comes mostly from the forearms, not the hands. Wont go too much into the anatomy of this but doing forearm work outs will increase your grip strength as well. Wrist flexion/ extension curls are good for this.

I vote for "heeling" also. Easy to do and can be barely perceptable.
Great way to check: Go to the range, set up like you normally shoot (stance, grip, sight picture, aim), rest your trigger finger along side the frame and have a friend carefully pull the trigger for you. You will know immediately where your gun shoots and if POI changes from when you pull the trigger, you'll know it is you and not the gun.
