  1. well our nats are on nov 13-15 2009

so i been thinking this year is the year to train and make Master

I am open c grade at the moment (not for long)

Ill be keeping track of the trip here

this weekend i will time some basics and set goals to inprove to

    any comments are welcome

  2. So I got all fired up, went an bought a new pistol (STI eagle 5.0). Have been mainly shooting Glocks and revolvers for at least the past 10 years. I shoot ALOT, but never really had much focus or goals, just shoot alot. Recently got a shot timer, have been re-learning some techniques and plan on shooting some matches in the near future. Always see folks using 1911's for matches on TV, so figured there must be a reason..... maybe single action/light triggers/faster reset or something. Sold my glock 22 and got an STI in 40S&W with bushing barrel (idpa ok).

First thing I noticed was manipulating the safety when drawing the gun outa the bladetech holster took some time or just seemed weird, and I was having trouble with having to raise the front sight up to see it (didn't point naturally , from the different grip angle). Got the timer going and in comparison, my times literally doubled. My split times in bill drills were longer also.

So my question is basically, does the single action/light trigger stuff make any difference with split times/shot times/etc , or can the glocks be worked just as good, cuz I really shot better with my glock?

I think that I'm gonna go back with a glock and have already posted the STI for sale in a few places (pm if interested by the way, priced to sell fast!!). Put about 350 rounds through it this weekend, it's a real tack driver, but it just doesn't seem to be what I can drive right now.

so 350 rounds and how much dry fire?

you have 10 years of habit from shooting a glock

it will take more than 350 rounds to get used to the sti

i had a glock and now have a sti the glock trigger will never be as good as a 1911 cos of the plane in swings in

just take it out and shoot in practice you may have to slow right down till you have the right grip , working the saftey ,different trigger ect and do lots of dry fire

  3. does uspsa have regions ? ie usa canada new zealand ect

or do people just join uspsa ?

what im wanting to do is shoot uspsa matchs in new zealand do we need to have a uspsa new zealand club and we join that and thats a member of uspsa

or does every one just join uspsa usa and we just shoot ?

  4. thanks guys ive got an open sti as well ,so for me the open 686 will be for fun or in austraila where they have 10 round mags limts

ive seen guys with a revolver finish right up there in open

  5. Hi all i have just got a 686 357 round butt. its as plane as they come

now im wanting to do it up for a open ipsc and steel challenge shooting

and my where do i start for bits and what to get done

    im thinking

    trigger

    cmore

    porting

    moon clips

    new grips

but have know idear on what brands/types , where to get bits from and what other things to do to it ?

all help or comments will be gratefull

  6. i have the same problem but other way round

just went on a shooting trip to australia where they have 10 round mags only

so heres me with my open gun use to long mags 29 rounds

haveing to rember to chage mags on a 12 round stage

man it made stage planing a lot more inportant

after shooting it i beleave that shooting l10 or single stack ect makes you a better shooter as you have to plan your stages more and you pay more if you fire the one extra shot ect

  7. Thanks guys for all the advice

Im off next month to Queensland Australia to shoot a match

Cost about a week off work and $2000nzd but I think its worth it 8hrs in flights

Ive been watching a lot of ipsc dvds and I have found that the best thing is hat cam vids as you really see what speed is achievable

  8. Matt is excessively busy getting things together for Predator Ranch, attending to industry related business, and getting things together for the Ironman, amongst other stuff. I'm sure the podcast rates as one of the less immediate concerns, right now

2nd that hes a real busy man at the moment

  9. DONT use new brass at matches :( its longer than once fired brass

i just shot my area match here in new zealand and on the first day my gun wouldnt fire every 3rd or 4th round ( i got told it was called primer flow ) cos of the longer cases the primers where falling apart a blocking the fireing pin

i have fire 3-4000 rounds this year same load same bullets not a problem only thing that was differnt was i used new brass

  10. thanks guys i love to get pro instruction but as i live in New Zealand

it will cost me about 10-15,000 to get to the usa or europe and im only 23 so that kinda money is out of the question this year

but i will do it as soon as i can aford it

    thanks for all you help

  11. dskd,

That is an excellent goal to have. I have personally been blessed with having many great shooters around me (BSeevers, CHRIS KEEN, Flyin40, Flex, Steve Anderson, Bob Vogel). Although I really only interact with the first two on a consistant basis, the rest have offered me tips based on what they have seen,

The most dramatic improvement in my shooting game has come from my daily practice. Using Steve Anderson's book Refinement & Repetition , I have created a routine to refine my skills for the coming seasons. If you are completely bored, you can read through my Range Diary.

I guess what I am trying to convey is that shooting with better shooters is an advantage, but IMHO, the way to becoming a better shooter is through constant practice.

thanks at the moment i shoot wed and Saturday 250 rounds some times on Monday as well normally by my self or with one other shooter

and every other day i do dry fire from the Refinement & Repetition book ive got the full set of burkett videos and ive just started reading thinking practical shooting ( by Saul Kirsch )

and try to get in the gym when i can

thanks for your Range Diary to read

if any one has any other training tips ect please let me no

thanks to everyone esle for there input im shore all of you have just helped me shooter better

    Thanks

    Darren
