Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I would like to clean the grips of my Prodigy with something safe that won't harm the grips. My dry skin appears to be embedding into the grip texture. Can someone recommend a cleaner for the grips? I'll use a nylon brush.
  2. looks like I need a different holster. I purchased one from Scorpion Gear but once it snaps in it wobbles around inside the Kydex holster with about 1/8-1/4" give. I've screwed the two large screws down as hard as I can, and it looks like the spacer is too wide to allow it to screw down more
  3. I put about 200 rounds through my new prodigy and I noticed a distinctive white residue up high on the grip, especially right where my thumb is. I never had a grip texture like this before. Is it my dry skin scraping off? How do I clean it off?
  4. I'm getting a green dot Holosun Vulcan optic. It's the first one I've ever had, and it was the one recommended by my peers for beginners to start with, coming from iron sights, especially with astigmatism and bad eyesite in general. Regarding the optics and shooting in USPSA and NRA Action pistol events, what yardage should the optic be set at? It seems like most of the USPSA stages are set at 10-15 yards, but there are some that are farther 25+. Do I want to set it for the furthest distance I most likely be shooting at? How would I adjust my aim to accommodate the different distances? Should I use my distance glasses for shooting the with the optic? (These are the ones I have for shooting clays). Or do I use my progressive glasses?
  5. Thank you all for your advice and suggestions. I do have a local gunsmith familiar with the 1911/2011 platforms who can fit the new pieces into the gun. I’m getting excited!
  6. I’ll be putting on a Holosun Vulcan optic and using the gun in the limited optics division
  7. As you can see I’m a beginner on this forum and couldn’t see how I could edit my post. Thanks for changing the headline!
  8. I just bought a used Smithfield Armory Prodigy DS for competitive shooting in USPSA events. I've shot in about ten events and really like the sport so I purchased the Prodigy to be my competition gun. I want to swap out a few items to make the gun easier to use and more ergonomic for my hands. I would like to change the ambidextrous thumb safety with one that is wider, lower or longer so I will feel comfortable riding my thumb on the safety while shooting. Right now it is a stretch to push the safety up and down. I see some folks also have a shield on their thumb safety which I believe protects from slide pinches. That sounds good. I also want an easier mag release and found a button at Dawson Precision that I think will work but not sure how it will screw into the gun. The gun is black so I prefer black/carbon parts, not silver/stainless steel parts. I would love to hear recommendations.
