Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Thanks for the info. I took it out for the first time today set up with the comped barrel. I ran both powders from a low charge to high until I passed 1500fps. I hit 1538 with HS6 and didn't see any pressure signs, Wac flattened and cratered primers at 1526 (7.2 Grains), 6.9 was 1500fpa and they looked fine. I'm loading my 115s to 1.120, I have not had my barrel throated to load longer, hoping I wont need to for my purpose. I ordered a spring tuning kit, 14# down to 10#, didn't see anything lower but didn't look that hard either, I'll start there. What pound spring did you swap too for your 124s at 132PF? The accuracy of this gun is amazing.
  2. I was looking at spring tuning sets. I've seen videos on youtube of guys running it with the comped barrel and factory loaded 115s and it cycled just fine surprisingly. Although it didn't look like it was shooting as flat as it could. I dont mind loading it to major if necessary. Thanks for the info.
  3. I recently purchased a Czechmate, planning to use it for Outlaw matches and steel challenge eventually. My question is, I'd obviously like it to shoot as flat as possible, but I don't need to make major power factor for SC or Outlaw matches. Do I need to load it up near major to get the benefit of the 4 port comp or can I stay well below 165PF and stay flat? I'm planning to work up loads with WAC and HS-6 trying both 95s and 115s, I'll give 124s a shot as well. I've loaded for single port comps, but never a real comp. While I do see a benefit with single ports, I didnt find any recoil reduction trying to work the comp harder. My Staccato XC runs almost dead flat with 4.0 grains of WAC and 115s, only 109PF but is 100% reliable.
  4. 100%, pretty sure that's why they started this style match.
  5. We dont have divisions in our club level match, bring a center fired gun and just shoot. If I use it at another club, I would pull the comp and shoot limited optics.
  6. I used to shoot at Schultz's, currently at Oconomowoc.
  7. I'm just getting back into the game after a decade off from competition (still shot on my own regularly). So why not build a brand new race gun straight out of the gate . I'm shooting an informal and unrestricted club level IDPA match, anything goes gun wise, and I've always wanted a 2011 style open gun. I'm in the process of ordering a Stealth Platypus with a threaded barrel. Can someone point me in the right direction of what type of comp I can screw on a 1/2-28 thread that will be effective? I ordered a Zev V2 that I'm going to play with on a Glock 17 and XDM OSP, if it works well it may live on 1 of those pistols. I'd order another Zev for the Platypus if it works well unless there's a better option. At this time Stealth Arms does not offer a comp or any advice on one. I dont know if I supplied them with a bushing comp if they'd be willing to build the gun around it. I'm a striker fired guy that assembled and raced only Glocks and XD's, please keep that in mind when giving suggestions, I may not fully understand 1911 lingo. Also, regarding loads for comped 9mm minor. I understand minor will not work a comp to it's full potential, but I feel it's still worth playing with. I'm planning to work up loads with 90 and 115 projectiles with HS-6 powder, the information I've gathered made it seem like this is the right direction to start, as well as possibly lighter spring weights. Please feel free to chime in if this isnt accurate information. Does 6.5 grains of HS-6 with a 115 blue bullet seem like a good place to start? If the gun functions do I increase my powder charge to work the comp harder to shoot flatter? Or reduce powder charge and spring weight to shoot flatter? This is going to be a fun adventure, John
  8. I've been gone from pistol shooting for around a decade, benchrest rifle has had me consumed. I shot IPSC for a little over 10 years racing a Glock in Production, Limited, and occasionally Open. My club no longer offers IPSC or USPSA, but did start a very casual IDPA monthly match. By casual I mean no divisions or pistol restrictions. I'm in the process of ordering a Platypus and plan to set it up as an open style gun. Really looking forward to being back in action shooting, need some time away from the bench game.
