Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Zmego, don't be depressed at all. I had a 4.5" XDm 9 and 40 and loved them both and kick myself in the butt for selling the 9mm, I shot pretty well with the 9mm. How do you like the 5.25"? A guy at my local club has a 5.25" in 9mm and doesn't shoot it so I have been busting on him trying to get him to sell it to me, I still have many mags and holsters that should work with the 5.25 if he decides to part with it.
  2. Since I can't think about anything other then the Edge I have a couple of questions. I bought the factory Edge and I am having Dawson do the "CRP" package to it before it gets here to me. What are everyone's thoughts about spending another $240.00 and having them upgrade it again to the "Super Tuned" version? I don't know much, well really anything about STI or any other 2011 firearms so I was hoping I could get some input from all of you. One part of me wants them to do the "Super Tune" but the much larger side of me thinks I should keep it at the "CRP" level so I can get it sooner. I do have a local guy here that I have been taking training from that offered to tune everything up for me. He has tuned all the STI's that he bought and has built his own STI Limited and Open guns and they are sweet shooters.
  3. Well I checked with Dawson to make sure they received the FFL info for the person that is handling the transfer for me and they did get it, I don't want anything delaying it getting shipped out. Also looked at the website and they have the Edge back in stock so with any luck mine will make it to the shop pretty quick so they can get the CRP items installed and on it's way to it's new home. I have thought about the learning curve and hope that it won't be to bad to get over the thumb safety being there. I have a Springfield 1911 for a carry gun and do some dry fire work and I think that will probably help me out a little. Well with any luck maybe they will get it sent out sometime this week, I would love to have it by next weekend, Thanks for all the advise and making me feel better about spending the money and making the switch..........can't wait!! Steve
  4. Thanks for all the replies, congrats, and tips & tricks, I am a fairly new shooter, started 7/1/12 so all of the advise will really be helpful. Like I was saying the excitement is really insane, I am like overboard, it's seriously hard to focus at work or anything else, I can't wait. I just hope it gets here before our great Gov Malloy does something stupid with gun control. Thanks again everyone!
  5. I ordered a CRP STI Edge in 40 from Dawson last Friday, they said they were planning on getting some at the end of this week and then it would take about a week for them to "CRP" it but man....... this waiting is killing me!! I can't remember ever being so excited to get anything, it is going to be awesome going from a Glock 35 to the Edge!
  6. DNH; Thank you very much for you reply and advise. Moving my eyes fast enough fast enough but not soon enough is something that I have not thought of for some reason. If I understand my instructor correctly the gun lifts in recoil, the front sight returns on target, I snap my eyes to the center of the "A" on my next target and then the gun will follow to the exact spot my eyes are focused on. Would you say I am get the general idea? I do have two timers, I use the CED7000 as my main timer and I have a Pocket Pro 2 for a back-up. My instructor has given me a manual that he has made for me which includes live fire and dry fire drills. I just got Steve's "Refinement and Repetition" and will start working on the dry fire drills this evening, there is no point in waiting to get going. Thanks again for your help and I will be sure to add updates. Steve
  7. I hope that I can get some help, I have used the search function and haven't found what I am looking for regarding my eyes and transitions. I shot my first match on July 1st, 2012 and as you can imagine I became consumed by the sport. I have shot pretty much every match in the area as I can and also shoot on my own during the week. I also have been training with a instructor in the area and practicing with a Master class shooter. On of my biggest issues is transitions, they...well they just suck! I understand the dry fire drills along with live fire but I continue to screw it up. The instructor tells me that I have to snap my eyes to the next target as soon as the gun lowers and the gun will go right to where my eyes are, but I am still not getting it and I feel like my eyes and brain are not working. Does anyone have any tips or tricks that I can try? I am never going to get out of C class until I can make the transitions happen. Steve
  8. Thank you everyone for all of the replies to my post. I should have added that yes, I do lube all of the brass before running them through the die. I bought the steel version of the die and am kicking myself for not spending a little more and getting the carbide. I have read on several post that most folks use lube even with the carbide die, that was the other reason I bought the steel. I am going to try and polishing it if I do not hear back from Redding in a day or two. Steve
  9. I use the Redding G-Rx steel die on a Lyman press for all of my 40 S&W brass. Before I used the die for the first time I cleaned it really well and cleaned all of the brass really well. After running some brass through the die I noticed evenly spaced lines in the brass from the case mouth all the way down and now after using the die for a month or so the lines have become worse, now I can feel the grooves in the brass. Has anyone else had this problem with their die? I have already sent an email to Redding and just waiting on a reply. Tx, Steve
  10. I start with running all the brass through the tumbler just long enough to get the range grime off, then all of my brass goes through the G-Rx die on a single stage press and then back to the tumbler to get the lube off and the brass shined up. Once that is done I run them through the Dillon and I am good to go. I did think about running a loaded round through the G-Rx but the thought of putting any force on a loaded round scared the poop out of me. I am no expert by any means but it just seems like it would be like playing Russian roulette.
  11. Hi Joe,

Just wanted to say thanks for having me join your squad today, I appreciate it, I really didn't want to shoot in a group where I wouldn't know anyone.

Do you have any of your videos on YouTube? If you do could you please send me a link? I would like to watch them and really try and learn foot movement. My email is sfortini@att.net

    Thanks,

    Steve

  12. Thanks for the replies folks. Oh yeah.... the self directed questions came as soon as I was done with with following the RO's last commands at the end of the first stage. I have to say it was pretty intimidating seeing all the folks with high dollar race guns and the shooting shirts on but it wasn't bad at all. I do plan to keep on volunteering to help set-up and will never be the guy to be told to tape, I don't want to be called "No tape Steve". Thanks again to all the guys that helped me out in Westfield and to all the folks here for the encouragement. Steve
  13. Well I finally went to an actual USPSA match this past Sunday in Westfield MA. I have been shooting IPSC/USPSA/IDPA type matches at my local range for the past couple of years but never had the nerve to join USPSA and shoot in a match. The match was a total of 6 stages and were all classifier stages which I was told that 6 classifiers weren't the normal, typical is 5 stages plus a classifier. This worked in my favor since I didn't have to move much and I could focus on my main goal, stay safe and don't get DQ'd. I arrived there a little over an hour early and found the guy that convinced me to try it and offered to help out. As soon as they were done setting up, the RO and another gentlemen walked me through the 6 stages and helped me decide what class and everything else. I ended up shooting my Glock 22 for this match since I didn't have a good holster for my Glock 35, I shot Limited with major pf. Over all I did alright, didn't break any speed records by any means but I was safe and that was my goal so I would say it was a successful day. If anyone that is reading this is thinking about trying a match you should go do it! I wish I had done this a year or two ago. I can't speak for other clubs but where I was they were awesome. I can't say enough good things about everyone in my squad, the two RO's were great, made me feel welcome, took the time to show me around the stages and everything else, two great guys and it was a great experience!
  14. I ordered a Dillon RL 550b from Brian last week and it arrived yesterday. I was undecided between the 550 and the 650 but after speaking to Brian on the phone he made me realize that the 650 was too big for what I am trying to do but the 550 was just right. When I tried to order a conversion kit for the 9mm Brian said I didn't need to spend that much money since the shell plate it the same, really what salesman does that in this economy? Brian was great to work with and he certainly made me a customer for life and I will send as many friends to him as I can. Steve F. Connecticut
