  2. The 2018, JP Enterprises Rocky Mountain 3-Gun will be held August 9-12, 2018 at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, NM! Applications for next year should be up mid-December at: http://rm3g.com/ and at: http://rm3gworld.webs.com/. Will post here when they go up! First couple week or so will be for repeat shooters only. BUT, new shooters should send in their applications as soon as possible to be on top of the newbies list! :-) Also, the cost will be $325 in 2018 due to rising range costs and such. This is the first raise in rates since 2009 so that's not too bad!
  3. Applications for the June 30-July 1 2018 Nightforce Precision Tactical 2-Rifle match are up at: http://johnson3gun.webs.com/2-rifle-june-30-july-1-2018 There will be 10 stages and you will need to use BOTH an AR-15 and Precision Rifle (.223 to 30 caliber) on each stage. This year there is a 3000 fps speed limit on both rifles. This match has about 2 miles of walking each day...you carry all your stuff...but you can use multiple optics, binoculars, bags, bipods, tripods, stick, range finders, whatever as long as you can carry it! Check out: https://rm3gun.smugmug.com/Nightforce-PrecisionTactical-2017/ for pictures from the 2017 match.

  5. Johnson 3-Gun Schedule: 2018 at the NRA Whittington Center March 17, 2018 - 3-Gun match Newbie Briefing 0830 Shooter's Briefing 0900 March 18, 2018 - 2-Rifle Match (Coal Canyon - Hwy 555 MM5) Shooter's Briefing 0800 April 14, 2017 RO Clinic followed by match on April 15 (come both or just Sunday) Saturday will be our 4th annual RO clinic. This clinic is a good refresher for anyone wanting to serve as a 3-Gun RO, but it focuses on Natural Terrain matches. We will be working under RM3G rules as well as 2-Rifle match rules, but it covers many of the RO skills talked about on the forums. There will be a little bit of shooting on Saturday and then a full Johnson 3-Gun match on Sunday. On Saturday, we will cover scoping out a stage (as an RO), looking for RO traps, dealing with the natural terrain for 180 and safety as well as RO repairs and supplies, RO equipment and preparedness. Since RO's at a natural terrain match implies more responsibility, we will spend some time looking at that as well. Since 3-Gun is growing so quickly, we will also be looking at strategies to work with shooters that are new to this type of match. The Sunday match will be open to everyone and you can just come on out to shoot! He-Man Nationals May 19-20, 2018 - Applications posted at: http://heman3gun.webs.com/ Nightforce P/T 2-rifle match June 30-July 1, 2018 - Applications up mid-January Rocky Mountain 3-Gun World Championship August 9-12, 2018 - Applications posted at: http://rm3g.com/ and http://rm3gworld.webs.com/ FEES for "local/club" matches: In general, matches are $40 for a one day match, $60 if you come to both days on a 2 day weekend!
  6. June 30-July 1, 2018 will be the third Nightforce Precision/Tactical 2-Rifle match On each stage the shooter will use BOTH their precision rifle (.223 to 30 caliber - speed limit 3000 fps) AND an AR-15 (same speed limit). We score by points. 20 points available on each of 10 stages. For your precision rifle - there will be 5 targets on each stage. If you hit the target on the first attempt, you get 2 points...2nd attempt 1 point. Then stop shooting! Precision targets are usually steel from about 200-1000 yards...but this year we had a tiddly wink at 30 yards! :-) For your AR-15 - there will be 10 targets on each stage worth 1 point each. They may be steel out to 400 yards or a stationary clay bird...or...who knows, or paper. Each target is worth one point...paper is scores best 2, 1/2 point for A or B, 1/4 point for C zone...zero points for D zone. Applications will be out in January. I will post here and on our Facebook Page: http://johnson3gun.webs.com/ under the P/T tab.

  9. Here's a quick look at the beginning of the season for Johnson 3-Gun. Johnson 3-Gun will have a Precision/Tactical 2-rifle match on March 12 in Whittington Center’s Coal Canyon. That’s off Highway 555 at MM5. Accessed from the main north/south road in Raton. You need 2 rifles. One must be an AR-15. The other can be any rifle (used for the Precision portion) .223 to .30 caliber with a speed limit of 3100 fps. There will be 4 stages. ALL stages use both rifles. You can bring bags, bipods, whatever you can carry for both rifles. Cost is $30. Gates open at 0700. Shooter’s brief starts at 0800. You can sight-in any time between 7 and 8. The next weekend at the main portion of the NRA Whittington Center, we will hold our (now traditional) skills 3-Gun weekend. For Saturday’s match, there will be 12 small stages stressing different skills. Sunday’s match will combine those skills into 4 more traditional stages. The matches are separate. $60 for both or $40 for either day. Meet at Cooper cabin for sign-up. Shooter’s briefing will begin promptly at 0900 and we hope to be shooting by 0930. Not long after that will be our RO Clinic the weekend of April 8-9, 2017. The Clinic itself will be Saturday with classroom in the morning and out on the range in the afternoon. On Sunday, we will have a regular 4 stage match with the students from the RO clinic doing a lot of the RO’ing. $60 for both. $40 for either. If you plan on coming for the clinic portion on Saturday, please email me so I can be sure to have enough materials. This year, in addition to natural terrain 3-Gun, we will be spending a bit of time on the new Precision/Tactical rules and RO’ing. May 20-21, 2017 He-Man 3-Gun Nationals - http://heman3gun.webs.com/ July 8-9, 2017 Nightforce Precision/Tactical 2-Rifle Match - http://johnson3gun.webs.com/p-t-match-july-8-9-2017 JP Rocky Mountain 3-Gun - http://rm3g.com/ For the last weekend of Johnson 3-Gun - we will do a 3-Gun match on Saturday Sept 9 and a 2-Rifle match on Sept 10, 2017. Check out: http://johnson3gun.webs.com/ for more information on the "local" matches. Check out: http://rm3gun.smugmug.com/ for pictures of all sorts of matches at Whittington
  10. We're very excited...after some talk last year at SHOT SHOW, and JJ experimenting on the local crowd, Nightforce Optics has stepped up as the major match sponsor of the P(Precision)T(Tactical)2R(Rifle) match to be held August 27-28, 2016 at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton New Mexico. This match combines the best of two worlds…Precision Rifle where you know your dope, get comfortable and place shots with precision and Tactical Rifle or 3-Gun style rifle where you move around and you can send as many rounds downrange as you need to hit your targets. If you’re a precision shooter who’s always wanted to try action shooting, or you’re an action shooter who wants to try something with more precision and accuracy or you just have 2 styles of rifles and want to compete with both, this match is for you! You bring 2 rifles - an AR15 (.223 only) and a Precision Rifle (.223 to 300WM) and all the bags, bipods, backpacks, paraphernalia that you would bring to a precision match and the rifle portion of a 3-gun match. You may use any accessory you carry with either or both rifles. You will need to be able to sling either rifle. Bipods, Suppressors, Shooting Sticks, Tripods are all OK. All equipment used must be carried. Wind meters, binoculars, range finders, etc are also allowed. Both rifles may use any “manual”optical scope. Most targets are known distance, but can integrate unknown distances into the match. AR15 rifle will mostly be used for targets from up close and personal to about 400 yards. The precision rifle targets will be from about 300 yards to about 1000 yards. Two types of stages: Field and Stationary. -The Field Stages will have movement from a start position with AR loaded at low ready, PR slung, any additional equipment also carried. Engage AR targets (10 targets total) while moving to the PRS shooting position. Once at the PR position the AR will be grounded safely and then the shooter will engage 5 long range steel targets with the PR. Field Stages can also start with PR and transition to AR, but most of the course of fire movement will be with the AR. -The Stationary Stages will be from defined shooting positions, maybe 10-20 feet apart. Can start with either rifle or even have a choice. Scoring: Stages are normally 5 minutes time limit, with no advantage for finishing faster, only points are recorded. Each AR target is worth 1 point. Could be cardboard, steel, or clay targets. Unlimited rounds may be expended with the AR. Cardboard targets will be scored ½ point for each A/B hit, ¼ point for each C, and a 0 for a D hit, max 2 hits per target. Clays and steel are 1 point each. PR targets are normally steel and usually will be worth 2 points for a first round hit, 1 point for a second round hit, max 2 rounds expended at each target, which will usually be steel. 10 AR targets per stage, and 5 PR targets per stage. 20 points are available per stage, no score or penalty for misses or FTEs. Shooter with the most points wins the match. Applications and information are posted at: http://johnson3gun.webs.com/p-t-match-august-27-28-2016 Any sponsors interested, please email us at: Johnson3gun@gmail.com

  12. Just wanted to let you all know the first match of JJ's new 2-rifle matches (I like to call them Precision/Tactical matches) will be Sunday, May 10 (Yep, Mother's Day) at the NRA Whittington Center. He is still working to refine these matches, but here's the plan. You bring 2 rifles - an AR15(.223) and a Precision Rifle (.223 to 300WM) and all the bags, bipods, backpacks, paraphernalia that you would bring to a precision match. You may use all of it with either or both rifles. You may have to sling either rifle. You may have shoot the AR15 on the move with all your Precision Rifle stuff on your back. There are 2 different types of stages. Both have a 5 minute time limit. Scoring is total points! The Field Stages will have movement from a start position with AR loaded at low ready, PR slung, any additional equipment also carried. Engaging AR paper and steel targets (~5 each) while moving to the PRS shooting position, no requirement on number of rounds expended. Once at the PR position the AR will be grounded safely and then the shooter will engage 5 long range steel targets, 2 rounds each max. A 1st round hit on each PR target is desired. Normal par time will be 5 minutes, 10 points available for the AR, 10 for the PR with a total of 20 points max per stage. AR Paper will be 2 scored rounds each, 1/2 point each for A/B, 1/4 point each for C, no score for D. Each AR steel will be worth 1 point. Each PR steel will be worth 2 points if hit on 1st round, 1 point if hit on 2nd round. No point for misses or FTEs. The Stationary Stages will be from defined shooting positions, maybe 10-20 feet apart, AR at one and PR at the other. Again, unlimited rounds with the AR are allowed at 10 targets, with 2 per max at 5 targets with the PR, 10 points available with each, 20 per stage. AR and PR targets scored the same, 1 point each for AR, 1 or 2 points each for PR depending on if hit 1st or 2nd attempt. Shooter's briefing starts at 0800. Location will be posted at the gate, but probably across the street from Competitor Housing. $30.
  13. Remington and A Girl & A Gun are proud to present the 2015 Spring Girls Getaway – 3-Gun University to be held at the NRA Whittington Center May 5-8, 2015. This event is running during the week to ensure participants can be home on Sunday for Mother's Day. NEW Shooters.... as in don't have any guns or gear... They are welcome too. It is encouraged that participants have their own guns and gear, but if there is a gal that really wants to attend and does not have a set up that would be suitable, Remington will provide loaner guns, and we will ensure that the required gear for belt set up is available. 3-Gun University is a training match for women just getting into 3-Gun or for those wanting to improve their skills. Participants will be challenged by 4 natural terrain stages in the spirit of Rocky Mountain 3-Gun, Before shooting each stage for score, there will be an instructional period led by Coaches on specific skill sets, tips and techniques. In addition to Coaches working with all squads, our RO staff has been hand picked to lend to support to the Coaches and be a resource for the participants. In preparation for the match all registered participants will have the opportunity to interact with our Coaches, staff and sponsors on how to best prepare for the event with tips and hints on gear, equipment, guns, travel, nutrition and so much more. When participants arrive all stages will be open for review, filming and reviewing stage films is encouraged. On Thursday night, there will be dinner party with music and good eats AND all the shooters will get to choose a stage to reshoot on Friday as a “mulligan” to improve their score. We are excited to introduce some women to a new shooting sport and help others improve their skills against the beautiful backdrop of the NRA Whittington Center. Sign-up at: http://www.agirlandagun.org/s/events/3-gun-university/ This match is the first of its kind with training while shooting for score in a major match atmosphere! AG&AG is proud to offer this opportunity to women everywhere!
