  1. Just a little FYI for you 38SC shooters...When I was shooting 40 S&W I came across the Redding GR-x push through die which resized all my 40 S&W brass to perfect specs for reloading. I have since started shooting open division with an STI Trubor in 38 SC and noticed that after reloading, I would get about 4-6% failure rates when case gauging reloaded rounds. Since 38 SC is a straight wall case, I contacted Redding, who makes the GR-x push-thru dies, and they said the market is not large enough to make a push-thru die for 38 SC. So I searched for alternatives. I looked into the Case-Pro roll sizer, but didn't want to pay $900. A friend of mine turned me onto this. Get the Lee Factory Crimp die in 38 Super and remove the crimper on top. Get the Lee Bulge Buster Base sizing kit and place it in place of the removed crimp. Mount this in a Lee single stage press and waa-laa...a push-thru die for 38 SC. Now I get 100% case gauged 38SC ammo. Oh, be sure to lube the cases and this setup will also cull out the 38 Supers as they won't go thru due to the rim. (hammer and punch to remove the supers) Here are the components you need, less the press: Lee Bulge Buster Base Sizing Kit (380 Auto 40 S&W 45 ACP) $17.99 and Lee Carbide Factory Crimp Die 38 Super $19.99
  2. Hello, and thanks in advance for your time. I'm reloading 9mm Luger on an older 550B, although the dies are brand new. I'm an experienced loader although new to 9mm. My issue is bulging at the case base. It doesn't happen consistently, but I would say 1 every 75 rounds. I'm loading 124gr jacketed with around 8.0grains of HS-6 and CCI small rifle primers. It's a pretty hot load, but I'm shooting 9mm Major through an STI Matchmaster. The bulges are barely visible but they are causing the gun to not go into battery, leaving the slide about 1/8 of an inch away from locking up. The jam is then very difficult to free as the cartridge is really wedged in the barrel. My OAL on the cartridge is in line with published data, and like I said, 98% of cartridges are fine and no issues with feeding. I've played around with the crimp and it seems to be well adjusted, same comment as previous, 98% of rounds are perfect. It just seems bizarre that it's only happening about once every 75 rounds. I'm chamber checking everything, which I do for match rounds anyway but I'm shooting 800-1000 a week so that's a pain! Again, thanks and fingers crossed you can help me!
  3. A friend gave me a large quantity of .40SW brass he picked up at a local range. It's a range that is mostly used by the Sheriff's Deputies and CHP, so most of it is Glocked. I shoot a Glock 35 in .40SW, and I have just bought a Lone Wolf barrel for it that I will be using instead of the stock Glock barrel, so in the future my Glock shouldn't bulge the brass like the stock one does. I am reloading using a single stage press (RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme), and I also bought the Lee Factory Crimp die and the Lee Bulge Buster setup. I have sorted out all the brass I have and now am trying to decide on a good workflow for "debulging" the Glocked brass. Should I size and deprime the stuff first, then run it through the Bulge Buster? I have read that some folks do the Bulge Buster as the last step. Those of you who use the Bulge Buster, where do you put it in your workflow?
