Great info and yes, your process does help a great deal when I am breaking down stages. Before I would just kind of go through them, now, using your strategy, it is much easier and I am more efficient. Thanks for taking the time to write this article!!

+1 again for the Mitchell right side. I use them on 1911 and also on my SVs. By using my trigger or middle finger of my strong hand, I do not have to loosed and reacquire my grip when reloading. It significantly improved my first shot placement after reloads.

Very good opening post. Really helps me to understand where I am now. I started out slow but accurate, then pushed to hard and wheels and accuracy both fell off. I am trying now to do exactly what you were describing and see only what I need to see. It seems I can do that through parts of a stage, but if there is even a minor hiccup in my plan, I overcompensate by starting to shoot at one target and not seeing that target but the next one I am going to. I know I need more practice and to become more aware of what to see, and your post really helped to reinforce that. Along with the great followup discussions.

Found this drill and got to the range to try it out.

5.33 x 1.5 = 6.83

5.29 x 1.0 = 6.29

5.52 clean = 5.52

5.70 x 1.0 = 6.70

5.38 x 1.0 = 6.38

5.31 clean = 5.31

Stopped on the clean run. Average for the day = 6.17

[What would you do]

I am still learning myself, and you will always need to use the fundamentals, but one thing I can tell you that helped me out a great deal was watching some of the better shooters, not trying to keep up with them, but watching their foot work, and how to break down stages. I was once told to look at a stage and break it down and figure out how to effectively shoot each portion based on my skills. Once I applied the fundamentals consistently, and started to figure out stages, I noticed great improvement.
