  1. For a class 3 malfunction or stoppage or double feed in a classic sense, the first order of buisness is to lock the slide to the rear, release the magazine, and then tap rack bang. Hmmmmm....all fine motor skills, and if you are having a class 3 malfunction in a gun fight, I would certainly classify that as a bad day.

    So the question I have based on existing curriculum for LEO and Military guys is this.

    Caveman skills for reload and you wont find the little button;

    BUt when performing a class 3 malfunction clearance you are required to use that little button in a trained response;

    so is the curriculum just wrong.

    I have drilled my LEO's tons and tons on USPSA and IDPA drills over the years...I cant say what because of pending lawsuits, but our agency is VERY well above the national average in shootings.

    The problem is LEO and Military quals and training, is that we are taught at the bottom level of the ladder for our crappy shooters to make it. No real incentive to perform, so no real incentive to grow. Competition is all about growth and performance.

  2. Ask Angus about a CZ-75B SA with striaght flat trigger with thin grips with magwell. Mink just built me up one for IDPA. Points very well and has great center of gravity (not nose heavy) feel. Is in 9mm and can get extentions on base pad for limited, L-10 or IDPA esp if needed. Good luck. Give me a call, I can send you pics from my phone. 575 202 4136

  3. it handles very nicely. I have been using all the above models, to be honest, I am kinda liking the one I am shhoting at the time. It does run very nicely, and I ran tons of really hot ammo through it this week. It is a great buy.

    Pat..did you get the fixed sight version or the adj. sight version?

    so jealous!!

    fixed sight. all black.

  4. I posted about all the help from the shooting community for the assistance with a young 6 year old daughter of one of the police officers from my department. He just recently returned from Iraq as well. Kaylin Tru was diagnosed with a tumor on her brain stem about 6 months ago. She underwent 30 radiation treatments. During this time members of the department had a raffle for a handgun to assist with any expenses for the family. With all YOUR contributions, we were able to raise almost $5000 for the family for one handgun. Some of the responses from the family was disbelief to tears for the gifts from all you. As stated before, it is hard for someone in our postions (LEO) to accept assistance. I for one am so grateful and proud to surrond myself with all of you. However, Baby Kaylin passed away this morning. SHe fought until the very last...the family in thier loss recognizes all of your contributions for thier family, and I truly am honored for each of you...

  5. As a former k9 handler who participated in countless tactical operations with service dogs, i can tell you that the effect of oc/cn/cs or any component there of has no real basis. All the dogs would snort a little, and were able to function with the greatest capability,olfactory, to search. We use our dogs all the time is cs/oc environments with no effect. i would be hesitant to employ oc on a motivated dog with ill intentions. Many dogs will be aggresive and challenge you for a real or percieved piece of territory (fence, edge of drive way, etc) Many times you real about dog attacks you hear about pack attacks. I don't think oc would be of any real benefit with these critters. I would pre scout your walks and really avoid any areas that might be an issue, don't know what to tell you about strays though.

  6. In reference to the grip exercises for shooting. This is about bouth grip and wrist strength. One with out the other will not be as useful. Jeff Martone , DOE and kettlebell king made some exercises for us shooters to assist with our grip maintence training. He would use mid size kettlebell and hold it upside down with a 90 degree angle at elbow. He would then straighten his arm up for reps keeping the kettlebell stable. After 3-4 reps is will start to wobble. He then went into a exercise with the kettle bell specifically to strengthen wrists. THe kettle bell woudl be placed on the floor with the handle portion down. You then hold the sides of the kettlebell with thumbs foward of course, in this position. TOns of stabalizing going on. IF you can perfrom a couple of push ups from this position. THe handle on the floor will make you focus on core strengh and maintain a solid grip. When your grip shifts, you will begin to lose stability. He would then do kettlebell swings in front of him. He would "toss" a midsize kettlebell for swings and switch hands to catch it, however while in motion prior to switching hands he would tap the ketttlebell twice, mostly for hand eye coordination and re catch it before it fell. Jeff is super stong in kettlebell and very versed in handgun manipulation. Give it a try...

  7. Little story to share with you all....I am a police officer in southern NM. I was drawn to the shooting sports to become a better firearms instructor; initially. Then I just realized I really like the people in shooting sports.

    One of my officers who has recently returned from Iraq, found out that his little 6 year old daughter has a tumor on her brain stem. The best docs in the country are assisting her along, but all agree it is a long road for her and her family. THe officers wanted to help in all and any way. One of the ways was to have a raffle for a handgun we donated. We had fliers printed and tickets ready. We have been very happy with the support for this family. It has been hard for him, as a member of the Military and Law Enforcement, he has devoted his life for sacrafice, as such, it is hard for him to take or recieve from others...

    Yesterday we had the NM IDPA Championship in Las Cruces. It was attended by over 100 shooters. I was able to tape some fliers for the family on my unit and discuss the issues with lots of shooters. I was offered donations, prayers, and personal support for a girl they did not know ( IMUS Ranch in northern NM). I was a little overwhelmed by the response. I truly thought that if I could get a hundred bucks for the raffle tickets, it would be a home run. It was primarily for some fun money for them as we ( LCPD)have some travel destinations for them in mind...DISNEYLAND !!!!!!

    Well I was very busy being a RO and trying to keep up with everything going on. Needless to say at the end of the day I had an envelope full of money. The support from the shooting was over $1200. Not bad for $5 raffle tickets.

    I just wanted to say thank you all from a grateful group of law enforcement officers for being who you are. we salute you all.

  9. Pat...grips are the big deal in making weight..

    as others have said.. denis marshal make a lightweight specifically for the SP01 for this purpose.

    other parts you could change out to get weight savings..

    biggest thing is you will be close no matter what..so make sure you weigh it, no room for assumption as it be in tenths of ounces that you will make weight.

    thanks a million. do you have a number for him with the grips. what will be your next match....

  10. what are some of the "recipes" to shoot a cz spo1 in idpa. grips, weight, springs, holsters, mags, sights, everything...if you have any pics that would be nice too. Am really interested in shooting IDPA this year with a cz, just really am kinda lost on the rules and what is needed. thanks

    Pat

  12. I forgot to get this up here earlier this week. Here are the results from the Production Division at my last match.

    Not a stellar performance, but I'm pretty motivated about my progress; especially since my first match was in January 2010.

    It's going to take a lot of work and dedication, but I want to be in that top 5 by August.
