  1. I'd have to check to be sure. From memory I run a 150t Dawson with the fixed shadow rear for poi with 135gb pills. With that czub adhustable I think I went 165 or 170t Dawson. Of course it's adjustable... Bear in mind if you shoot heavy pills they will impact higher at the same pf so taller front sight would be needed.

Hey thanks mate. Yeah I use the 6.5mm high front sight (5.5mm comes on the gun from factory) with the factory fixed SP01 rear sights, shoots POA/POI. I'd be interested in the adjustable rear, so your recomendation on 170T will get me started.

    Cheers, Ando.

  2. my favourite rear sight that fits the standard shadow dovetail is the CZ UB one.

    this one: https://www.czub.cz/en/catalog/370-pistols/PM3A/1081-0011.aspx

    http://www.shop-cz.com/adjustable-rear-sight-cz-75-sp-01-sw-shadow/d-71574/

I think CZC or CZUSA have them from time to time.

it's adjustable for windage and elevation. I've had other adjustables that were rubbish (I think they were LPA). Have broken 3 of them before I gave up and went back to fixed rear, drift it as needed for windage and buy different height front sights for elevation. At least that way they never move and never break... but a few friends have used the CZ UB one with success. It's legal for IPSC too (if that matters to you).

What height front sight are you running with this sight to shoor POA/POI?

  3. So with some reserch, including the great advice here, this is where I'm at.

I have a CZ TS in 40 & 357sig. I can fit a 9mm barrel & run 9mm on the 40 slide. The breach faces are different on both 9mm & 40. May require a 9mm extractor, whick is the same 9mm extractor part for all 9mm CZ's. Have heard folks fitting an SP01 mag release into TS & running SP01/75/85 mags with reliability.

Now to source the TS 9mm barrel here in Austalia.

    Cheers, Ando.

  4. CZ TS conversion.

I have a CZ TS in 40 & 357sig. Are the 40 & 9mm slide & breach faces same. Can I fit a 9mm barrel & will it run reliably with 9mm? Possibly change out extractor & use 9mm mags.

  5. Any Production gun meets the requirements for Metallic, but not vice-versa, so yes, you can shoot the same gun in both categories. Holsters can be different too. In Metallic, anything goes for holsters, just like the Open guns use. Not so for Production.

Excellent mate. So I can buy a competitive PD gun & shoot it at the same match in both PD & MD. Just comply with holster requirements.

Previously, was led to belive I needed 2 seperate guns, despite being both PD legal.

  6. So what do we think of the Tanfoglio Stock II/III? Factory adjustable sights, nice heavy full dust covered gun/ with longer sight radius than CZ?

Can I shoot the same gun in Production Division & then use the same gun at the same match in Metallic Division? Of do I need to have 2 seperate guns, possibly identical?

  7. Yep, your problem is you are using everything, but the right grips. Piss the aluminium & VZ grips off & put CZ OFM "Factory" SP01 rubber grips on the gun. They are great, fill your hand well, definately help with recoil control (as does the wide safeties when shooting strong/weak hand)& absorbs some of the feedback through the gun, which aluminium/steel can not do.

Get the OFM rubber grips back on your CZ & enjoy shooting a great gun.

  8. I've found 38 short colts in a moonclipped gun to be the fastest & most reliable relaod, without any noticable lack of accuracey, in a S&W 627 38/357.

For a Classic gun using speed loaders, 38 long colt would be the minimum length, for speed & reliability, in a S&W 686 38/357.

I load both my short colts & long colts on a Dillon 550.

    Stage #1 38/357 die.

    Stage #2 9mm powder funnel.

    Stage #3 9mm die.

Stage #4 9mm die crimped hard.

  9. All my CZ 75 SP01 Shadow's (I've had 4) came with 5.5mm hight front sights & needed to be swapped for 6.5mm high front sights. Some required a slight skim off the front sight height to come onto POA/POI. There were Australian compliant Shadows with Aussie length barrels, so this may/may not have an effect on POA/POI?

  10. Welcome to the club. Most of the best IPSC/USPSA shooters in the World, have been DQed sometime in their shooting carrer's. You are in good company. Sounds like you have learnt from your DQ, & are taking it quite hard. Keep at it & enjoy. Be safe.

  11. As mentioned above. Given a consistant grip & pressure. You can tune the gun for POI with a recoil spring change.

If you are coming back on target & stopping high, install a heavier recoil spring. If you are coming back on target & the gun is stopping lower than ideal sight picture, install a lighter recil spring.

This is tuned to a particular load, so a change in ammo, may require you to go through the same process again.

  12. In Australia, 135 LRN projectiles are very common in 9mm loads & in the CZ's. 1.1" oal is the magic # for most all CZ's.

I see in the US, 125 & 145 to be the more common 9mm projectiles. Very few seem to use & or produce 135's???

  13. The CZ Shadow Line is how CZ should have been building their CZ 75's.

Comes with ambi safety, no FPB & the upswept beavertail, with the classic lines of the original CZ 75/75B. IMO, the perfect CZ. I like the smaller safeties as the SP01 platform is useless to larger handed shooter. The platform is too low!!! I hate the new hammer & will be swapping it for a comp hammer. Give me the factory black rubber grips all day long too, they are excellent, IMO.

I sat with Angus in NZ earlier this year & described this exact pistol as my ultimate CZ.

I find my CZ Shadows all shot high at 25m with factory 5.5mm front sights, so replaced with 6.0-6.5 for POA/POI.

Can't wait for the CZ Shadow Line. Got my name on the first one into Australia.

    Cheers, Ando.

  14. Folks, you need to remember that here in Australia & others, we can't shoot 40+ calibres in IPSC or basically any other handgun shooting diciplines.

We are limited to 9/38 or 357sig, still a 9/38 projectile. Does it make sense? Nope, but it's what we have.

IPSC is International, not US based.

There is a push to allow tac-railed 1911 short dust covers. FLDC will not happen.

  15. Factory S&W rear blade notch widths @ 3.0-3.5mm, depth @1.5-2.0mm. Notch can be deepened or widened if required.

LPA blade notch width @ 3.0mm, depth @ 2.0mm. Notch can NOT be deepened, but can be widened if required.

I have a S&W 617 with factory rear sight. This is the shortest factory sight available. It measures 9.5mm high when bottomed out to the frame. The factory front sight on this revolver is @ 4.0-4.5mm high. This shoots POA/POI for me at 25m. The rear sight has @ 1.0mm of adjustment down still available.

The LPA sight measures 10.5mm high when bottomed out to the frame.

I have a S&W factory sight that measures 10.5 high when bottomed out to the frame. There is a taller S&W factory sight available that I hazard a guess at 11.5mm high? Brownells has a catalogue with the sizes available listed.

    .230" is @ 6.0-6.5mm on my ruler.

  16. You can get a taller/shorted S&W blade for your factort sight. I run a black marker over the white outline, & all is good.

I currently use LPA target black rear sight on my revolvers with a Protocl Design FO front sight. Excellent setup & solid. The Weigand blade is similar when first installed, but comes loose over time & requires replacing. LPA is a complete sight replacemnt.

  17. I run 38 special, 38 long colt & 38 short colt in my 6 shot S&W 686 using moonclips, with no issues. The only trouble I have occasionally, is if a case is split & when fied, it binds in the chamber, requiring additional force to remove the moonclip.

For me, moonlips are about the speed & ease of loading, not the unload. Both moonclips & loose cases (from speedloaders) come out equally as well.

When using speedloades, I run 38 short colts loaded looong or 38 long colt. When loading with speedloaders, I prefer short colt.

  18. I have a S&W 686 5" 7 shot. It was a great shooter as a 7 shot. I had the cylinder replaced with a 6 shot cylinder & it was terrible. It required an experienced gunsmith to get it just right. It's now fantastic & a keeper. I'm considering fitting a 4" barrel.

    Cheers, Ando.
