  1. That is a nice bedell. Do u like the swenson ambi safeties?

I really like the Swenson safeties no thumb drag on the slide and I find them very useful when having to transition from strong hand to weak hand and Dan does a great job of getting them fitted.

  2. Craiger...ever ride at: http://www.lincolntrailmotosports.com/ ?

No I haven't. It is just so easy to jump on the XXR and head south about 10 miles on paved roads and after that I can ride Gravel and fire roads in Shawnee National forest in Saline and Pope counties all day making a giant loop back to the house. We also have about 100 miles of Mississippi river levee roads to ride in Jackson County Il and cross the river and ride back through Mo. We also have a new track right 8 miles from the house.... Plan on riding it this spring when the weather improves...

  3. Might want to also look at Bear Creek Bullets. I have been using Bear Creek moly coated bullets 5000 rds now. . I was just going to use them for practice but found that in my gun a " Bedell Lightning" the Bear Creeks bullets shot, and fed really well so I have been using them for matches also. My only complaint is that the weights fluctuate slightly. The 180 gr. Bullets weigh from 180.8 to about 183 but I really can’t remember ever having a bullet lighter than 180gr. I shoot and practice with a High Master PPC shooter who is also a Master Class IPSC shooter He loaded 500 rds of the Bear Creeks and liked them also our last order we got 15,000 bullets. Our 15,000 bullet order took about three weeks to be delivered. The smaller orders I had placed took about 1 week for delivery. We have not had any leading problems in our guns. I have a Schuemann Hybrid AET barrel in my gun and my shooting partner uses a Barstow barrel.

  4. I think everyone's first S_I should be a low to mid-mileage *used* pistol built by a gunsmith of known repute from a owner of known repute from either the classifieds here or on the USPSA site. It is highly likely that you will get a gun that runs and runs well.

This was the exact route I took and it could not have worked out any better for me. I would only add, get tuned mags or mags that have worked well with the gun your buying. In my case the gun and mags have been flawless, it is great when all you have to do is think about how you want to shoot a stage and not worry about whether the gun is going to run.

Shoot that gun for one season. Then you'll know exactly what you do and don't want when you go to spend new money on a heater.

I had never shot a gun with Swenson Safeties and I didn't really liked the look of the Swenson safeties that came on my gun. Now I will not have a gun without a set of Swenson Safeties with the thumb shields.

  5. All,

How difficult is it to find a used limited custom guns? Maybe a limited gun made by Benny Hill, Brazos, or Dawson. Where would be the best place to look for a used gun like this. Any help is appreciated.

I was in this exact position. I wanted to move to limited after shooting production. I wanted a limited gun and looked at all the different limited guns by all the great Smith’s that are on this site. It really helped me when I decided on what type of limited gun I wanted. In my case I wanted a Sight Tracker style gun. I started to research this style gun. My second decision was who was going to build the gun. After doing more research here on the B E forum I came to the conclusion that I wanted a Bedell Lightning. There was only one thing standing in the way to the move to limited and that was build time, at the time the wait was 8 months. So I did some more research here on the pros and cons of new vs. used and decided that I would wait and see if I could find a used Bedell Lightning. After a couple of weeks of checking the classifieds I found exactly what I was looking for. The gun I bought has run flawless and I have not had any regrets about buying used.

  6. I bought four STI mags that Matt Cheely tuned with Beven Grams followers spings and base pads, Matt also drills the witness holes. The four mags all hold twenty rounds. Two of the four mags hold twenty rounds easily and are reloadable. I have not had any problems with the mags functioning or any issues with the Grams base pads.

  7. Hello Tom,

Once you get east of Harrisburg your options are limited. At Shawneetown located at the Illinois Kentucky border you can go to Hog Daddy's Saloon they have adult beverages and hijinx and Shawneetown has a street party that weekend. There is allot of great riding on the Illinois side you can ride south on Rt1 to Rt148 and follow the river down to Golconda very scenic roads. Stops along the way include Cave In Rock, Elizabethtown. Cave In Rock has a Ferry that will take you across the river back into Ky. I'm not sure of your route you are taking, but if you are driving I-57 through Illinois I live one exit north of Rt13 which is about 60 miles west of Sturgis Ky. We have some of the best BBQ joints anywhere including 17th Street bar and grill owned by 3 time Memphis in May Grand Champion Mike Mills. I forgot to add the Southern Illinois Wine Trail. Let me know if I can be of anymore help.

Edited to add the wine trial

  8. I can't remember exactly but there is a solution you can mix up that will get rid of the moly build up without too much work. I don't have the answer to that one so you'll have to use the search function for that one. try "cleaning moly". you might have luck there.

I was told to try 50/50 mix of white vinegar and hydrogen peroxide.

    -br

I would only use the 50/50 WV/HP on a stainless steel barrel I think you will pit a non stainles barrel with the 50/50 mix...

  9. I just bought a Brazos SC Limited gun which also has a readically lightened slide. Bob recommened the following two loads.

    3.9-4.0 grs N320 w/ Precision 185 gr at an OAL of 1.22

    or

4.8 grs of TiteGroup with same bullets and same OAL.

I have only shot one match but I used 4.8 grs of TG under 180 gr Ranier jacketed FP at an OAL of 1.225. I haven't chrono'd this round yet but the gun ran amazing.

4.8 gr Titegroup seems like allot of powder for a 185 Precision molly I run 4.4 gr with a 180 bear creek moly and chrono 170.4 OAL 1.17

4.8gr sounds like a good load for Precision Delta FMJ

    YMMV

  10. WOW that gun looks familiar. :)

The sad thing about this gun is it went from

The Fast and the Furious to Driving Miss Daisy :lol:

Seriously guys this gun and the mags have run flawless since I received it from Matt "approx. 7000rds."

The Bedell/Cheely Special has been everything I had hoped and more. This gun is a true testament to Dan's and Matt's skills.

Disclaimer I will never be mistaken for a photographer

  11. I called today to get put on the list. Next slot was September of 08. That was for a full custom, his next slot of a semi custom is Oct 07.

What to do.... What to do.....

    JS

Just go to the classifieds and get a GREAT deal on a Bedell Spitfire. I bought a Bedell Lightning from Matt, had it within a week and have been completely satisfied. The gun has run flawless 7000rds. It was everything I had hoped and then some. It was the first time I bought a gun off of a internet forum and I would not hesitate to buy a gun from the BE forum again. I have tried to talk myself into buying the Spitfire for a back-up gun but really can't justify it as my Bedell Lightning has never hiccupped so I will just wait until I see a 9mm Bedell open gun go on sale....

  12. I just received the minutes from the Silver Creek Conservation Club monthly meeting. The Kentucky State Match is being planned for the second weekend in October. :)
