My Pro Shot timer is about 30 years old and picks up every shot from my .22s.

 

Is there any place I should mount the timer to my person if I am shooting solo?  Does it matter?

I am looking to get a Smith and Wesson M&P 22 Compact and I will be practicing solo.  I have never used a timer before but want to get serious about action shooting and improving.  Should I be concerned about a timer not picking up a 22lr shot fired?  With respect to practicing solo, any particular shot timer that one would recommend or avoid?
