  1. Congratulations to ALL of the ladies who competed in the Area 2, no matter where you placed. I think it is great the we are all out there enjoying ourselves in the best sport ever.

I went to my first Bang Inc / BWB ladies camp (the beginners of course) and it was totally spectacular. I did not want to leave (tried to put the thought into the heads of some of the other campers that we should take the instructors hostage and force them to teach us more, but decided even at 6 instructors to approx 32 students, that we would probably still lose :( ).

All of the instructors were fabulous. I think what I loved the most that as you moved from bay to bay, instructor to instructor, you got different tips that came from each instructors strengths. I really did not want to go back to the hum drum everyday life, but what are you going to do.

Unfortanely there has not been a match for me to go to since I got back and I am going crazy to get to shoot again. Now I am just waiting for the Dust Devil.

I loved meeting all the ladies from across the country too. It was interesting to hear about the different laws they have to work around just to own a gun or get to shoot. Makes me thankful I live in a state like AZ.

Everyone was so great and I am glad I had the oppurtunity to participate.

Hope to see you all at the Dust Devil.

  2. I thought it was a good fight and even though I was pulling for Hughes I did sorta feel sorry for Royce that it went so fast. I think that armbar hurt him so badly that he really did not want to do much more fighting that night. I was surprised he did not tapout- I suspect most other fighters would have.

In the pre-fight interviews I thought Matt seemed calm, but confident (maybe I'm biased) and I thought Royce seemed like he had a chip on his shoulder. In this sport, (and ours) there is sometimes a fine line between confident and cocky.

And I really don't know too much about Swick either way.....but "Swick-o-tine" some people may say that is cocky (but in my opinion, it's on the funny / clever side. Showed he has a since of humour).

  3. Speaking of Hughes as a coach; my wife hated him from what she saw on the show. I just figured he makes his living beating the crap out of people, so I didn't really expect him to have a lot of people skills.

Thanks, I was thinking pretty much the same thing. These guys are fighters. When I am looking for a fighting champion to pull for, I'm not always looking for personality. However, I never noticed what you guys mention, but my friend mentioned the same thing. I guess I was blinded by Matt's skill and talent as a fighter :)

  4. I have been dying for this day to come - The Fight of the Century. From skimming over the posts it looks like most people are pulling for Gracie. Some 10 years ago or so my neighbor rented the old UFC fights and I would occasionally watch with him. Since then I have not seen much until I got spike TV hooked up just after the season started when Matt & Rich were the coaches. Maybe because of that I am a HUGH HUGHES :-) fan, I don't know. But I am really hoping Matt will win. I am dragging my daughter to Buffalo Wild Wings tonight around 4-5 so we can get a table.

It seems like all/most of the BWW's in AZ get the UFC fights so if you have a BWW in your area and are looking for someplace to watch, you might give them a try.

Good food and not to spendy. And LOTS of UFC fans to watch with.

that article says that Gracie is making 1.3 million and Matt says he is getting nowhere near that. Too bad for Matt.

  5. This was my first out of town match too and it was the most fun I have had......well since the the Area II. Probably too much fun, but ya gotta let go every once in a while. The shooting and stages were awesome. The whole atmosphere there was so easy going and all the people were wonderful. I was really impressed with the range. It was nice to have all those stages without having to walk 10 miles - you could walk back and forth if you wanted.

It was all fun and all the people who helped out - I want to thank you for all your hard work so we could have such a great match.

And, as Deb Ferns said - email the sponsers with a thanks so they also know how much we appreciate their support and sponsership.

  6. I have not been on in a while, have you moved? I saw you said you were moving and read your post. Of course the UFC caught my attention. Did you get the pay per view fight on March 4th? Forest was not in that one was he? But I thought he was going to be in an upcoming one. But Rich won!!!!!!!

Anyway, glad you found a place - sorry so late on the congrats!

of BTW, I am Trisha's friend, I met you at Area 2 and I had on the Tapout T.

  7. I just wanted to say, as I have been meaning to say this for quite some time.

I am from Kansas (went to KU, home of the Jayhawks, just had to get in the Jayhawks are awesome and am anxiously awaiting March Madness), but started shooting after I moved to AZ. I went back to KS to visit the family and looked up a range. I found a place to shoot, which was in DeSoto, and shot a match. Well, I shot it after hanging around for about an hour waiting for it to stop pouring down rain, which it did not, so we shot anyway. One stage there was no running as there was about a 8" of mud you had to trudge thru. Everybody out there was great and helpful. It was an honor to get to shoot with that group and I would recommend it to everyone. It's also a beautiful range - they have grass! (on the ground).

Thanks to all at the De Soto range.

  8. Hello Kay,

You don't know me yet, but just today I sent in my deposit for the camp in Tucson (The one for the pre-Desert Classic), so I will be meeting you, but not soon enough. Trisha cannot stop with the wonderful things about the camp so I finally decided to sign up. I have to say, when I saw you and Jerry at the 2005 Desert Classic I caught myself staring with my mouth open as if I were in the presence of Gods.

Am so excited for the camp

  9. Here is an embarassing one I managed to say quite loudly in Target to my 9 year old daughter while looking at video games. I said "Well maybe someday soon we can get a playboy" (In case I need to explain, I had accidentally combined play station and game boy. What I think I really need is a station boy B)

  10. Hello All,

I absolutely hate to talk about myself.

I had my first real shooting experiences shortly after I moved to Arizona (from Kansas, go Jayhawks). For some reason that I cannot seem to recall, I wanted to take a shooting class. After randomly selecting a place from the phone book (Maricopa Tactical) and talking to the instructor, it seemed like the only class to really take for beginners was the CCW course. I took that and had to borrow one of his weapons as I did not even have my own at the time.

I did not shoot much after that, but tried to take some of their classes about once a year. I eventually heard about Annie Oakley at Ben Avery so I started going there. That is where I met Nancy. We continued to shoot out there on Ladies Night and even took a class together at Maricopa Tactial - I think it was Beginners Tactical Pistol, or something like that.

Nancy and I began to shoot at Rio for Tuesday Night Steel, but that was such a scheduling challenge that it did not last long. We then started shooting Thursday night at Ben Avery in the Cactus League where I met Trisha. Nancy moved to Flag, as you may have read, and Trisha and I have been shooting together and she has been introducing me to many people. Because in spite of what she may say I am a very shy person. ;) oh no I like this one better  and once again, thanks to Trisha, here I am.

Well I think that is enough about me. !!!!!!! WAKE UP !!!!!!!!!

I hope I am putting this in the right place

    Karen
