people running light recoil springs and having the slide bounce off the slide stop.
Doesn't the slidestop take more of the impact when the slide returns forward, not under recoil forces?
If this is incorrect could someone please explain how slidestop breakage is more likely with lighter recoil springs?

Stu, will a fiber front sight off a Tanfoglio fit??? they have a similar setup with a grub screw.

Here's a video last year.
spo1 in action just threw a jpoint on it.
no comp.
Very interested in seeing some pics of how you've set up the jpoint, any chance you could post some pics of your SP-01

This one of me was taken at our club's carbine match. Quality is not very good, but it is still a cool shot.
Man, that is a cool pic

If it is any help. I had a custom STI 9mm standard gun, it came with a 9lb recoil spring and it just didn't feel right. I tried numerous others and ended up with a 12.5lb recoil spring and the sweetest shooter I think I had a 17lb mainspring.

Great work Ben,
Thank you for sharing, The stage breakdown was awesome. Look forward to further instalments.
Good luck

Thanks for the input. Alamo, I'll try that.
I am a master level shooter. I do walk throughs, plan my reloads and visualise the stage prior to shooting it and still make the uncommanded reloads - It's like being on auto pilot.

I have developed a bad habit of sub-consciously dumping my mag just about every time I move more than a few paces. Some matches I won't do it, and others I may do it a few times per stage when not required to do a reload or in the wrong spot. Last match I shot a 17rd stage and did 3 reloads, 2 of which were not planned. Just to clarify I shoot production. Does anyone have any ideas how train myself not to do this???

Interesting stuff, thank you

I load 3.6 grains of N320 under a Zero 147 grain JHP with Winchester brass and WSP. My OAL is 1.142 and this gives me a PF of around 140 out of my Glock 34 with a factory barrel. You can go down to 3.5 grains, but I like better at 3.6 grains. This is one sweet load...
Cor
This is a great load. I use 3.6gr N320 under a 147gr Westcoast Plated at 1.142 for a PF of around 140 as well out of my Glock 34.
I use 3.4gr of N320 under the Lasercast 145gr LRN.
bberkley,
Would you be able to tell me what the pf is for the 145gr LRN load please?
-
I used to use 3.5gr of WST behind a 145gr LRN for practice, and bumped it up to 3.7gr for competition for a better chrono margin. 3.5gr gave me 129pf out of an XD Tactical.

Just to motivate a couple people (you know who you are ), I was running Max through some Steel Challenge stages yesterday. His draws to the 25-yard 12" plate on Outer Limits were .88, .92 and .92
Please tell me that was an Open gun.....

Put a U-die in the press or get a Case Pro. Both get low enough. The Case Pro is a ton more expensive, but it will take care of rim burrs and things like that as well that no die in a press can.
HSMITH, could you please explain what a Case Pro is.... I have never heard of one???

I don't recall which lense that was, I think it was the regular lense that came on the cam. I have since moved to the wide angle lense, but am not sure which one I like better yet.
Thank you,

My video rig is from viosport.com, I got the SCOUT model. But they quit selling them with the Archos 500's for some reason, now only with a video camera. I got the Archos kit with the cam. It's pretty nice so far, I just have to play with the lenses and the filters.
I haven't been shooting very long, this was only my 5th match and we have them once a month. I did also notice my grip, I think I picked up that habit from a basic pistol class and concealed carry class. That'll have to be something I consciously work on.
I agree I went a little far into a couple ports, and that was after telling a first time shooter not to go into the port if they didn't have to and it would save them some time. lol
Yeah, the RO was oh'ing about that one handed shot. Kind of an inside joke. There is another guy that started shooting the same time I did and we have a picture of him doing some one handed "terminator" stuff. The other guy is who I usually stack myself up against, so the RO made a big deal about it all in fun. (so far that other guy hasn't placed higher than me! woohoo!)
One other thing that I can think of that I'm doing wrong other than going at a snail's pace is not keeping my gun in front of my face when I do a reload. My cadence on that last stage (a classifier) seemed good to me, just way too slow.
Thanks, Rumpy, for the help.
Anyone else, please feel free! And don't pull your punches either, give it to me straight!
Eric,
Can you tell me what size lens you were using in the clip???

GeneralChang,
What recoil spring do you use???
8lb recoil spring, very flat shooting. Here's a non pro out of focus photo.
Thank you for the reply...

I have an Edge in 9mm. I added an Extreme Engineering trigger kit and Aftec and it has been a total blast to shoot. Next to no recoil and cheap to feed. Cost a little less than the Tactical, my vote is for the Edge.
GeneralChang,
What recoil spring do you use???

Wow, thanks guys
Heaps of info!!!

I'm interested in hearing how some of you guys prepare your match Ammo, I'm not talking about practice stuff.... I mean ammo preparation for the big matches. Do you have any special secrets or tips that you use??? Anything from projectiles to magazines.... I currently reload, factory crimp and chamber check my match ammo is there anything else I should be doing for ultimate reliability????
-
Wow Steve,
I really like the idea of that technique.... I'm gonna give it a go!!!
-
Steve,
Are you able to give it a bit more OAL??
Had similar problems with my HS2000 Tactical (Xd) and lengthened the OAL a tiny amount and fixed the problem. I can't explain how or why this worked, but when I had the keyholing it was the first thing that came to mind.
Hope this helps.
