welcome to the PNW, there are a number of USPSA clubs in the I-5 corridor north and south of Seattle, here's a link to the web page for the section. http://northwestsection.org/

I think there are a number of IDPA clubs but I haven't shot them in years (too confusing going back and forth, and since I shoot USPSA Open, there is no equipment similarity) But you could contact Rick Breneman at rbreneman@KellerRohrback.com , he's the section coordinator for this area. This time of year things slow down (or stop) because of the weather. (I know the Montana guys are laughing at this last statement) I still shoot an indoor match every week at a range in Everett but I pretty much use December and January as a vacation from matches. February is when my home club starts having matches again, then there are matches just about every weekend so you would have lots of choices. PM me if you have more questions. Hope to see you at matches next year.

Rick was actually the AC 2 AC's ago.  He can still help you but the current AC is listed on the IDPA website.

    The AC before Rick :-)

Is there a literature package I could give the proprietors of a new range under construction here?  I think they will need something besides lane rental to draw in shooters from the pastures.

    Jim,

Sorry for the delay, I don't get to this forum much.

Email me at Sandy@ASI-USA.org and we will get some stuff to you.

So I've been thinking about this and what it would take to do, even on a small scale. I imagine everyone would want:

    • stage design schematics that are very specific, reproducible and appropriate to as many clubs as possible.
    • 2 small, 2 med and 1 large stage
    • determination of which rule book it'd be under
    • transparent process to answer questions and concerns
    • online results
    • free of fees or costs not normally associated with your match
    • a reasonable time frame, to me one month, in which to hold your match

I agree that the concept is very cool and I really appreciate the effort of those that put this on.  I do struggle with how differently things are enforced by SO's across the country and the effect that has on the scores generated.

You can do nearly all that stuff within IDPA policy.  You can even move threat indicators around, that rule against, that rule book, has not yet been adopted.

Save the snap cap stuff for practice days with your more proficient shooters, not novices.  We had a stage today that ran the gun empty during a WHO phase.  I can do a fair weak hand reload, but most of the people were shifting hands back and forth, which was safer for them.

If you want something simple to bring truly new shooters along without dropping them into the deep end of IDPA or IPSC, check out Action Shooting International.   http://asi-usa.org/

Thanks Jim.  We did design ASI with the new shooters specifically in mind.
