My concern with taking material off the DPP is voiding the warranty on an item that we all know sooner or later has a high probability of failing.

All red dots do.  Yes I know the slide can fail also and it is more expensive than the sight.

I decided on the slide because I've milled a bunch of slides for several reasons. Sights, lightening and red dots.

So taking a couple of mm's off the front edge seemed like an easy solution.

I actually carefully filed mine.  Obviously you want to fit the sight in there very often as you take material off.

Who did you use to mill the slide and what screws did you use as the R1 screws are a smaller diameter than the DPP screws.  Did you have the slide work include re-drilling and tapping the holes?

  2. Yes, I have seen 2 come through training that have exhibited this same issue.  Both shooters are defensive type shooters (IDPA and pistol classes)not USPSA shooters.  These guys do, almost exclusively, slide lock reloads and their ejectors have bent and twisted.

I have over 3000 rounds on my X5, I have SP pads on 21 rounds mags but I never do slide lock reloads.  I haven't had an issue yet.  I am convinced it is a lock slide lock reload issue.

Did you try Mike P.s Springfield XD with the dot?  It's pretty close to a 1911.   I have no problem going back and forth from my CZs to 1911/2011.  Open 2011, open Czechmate, CO SP01, iron sight 1911 and Shadow 2.

If it was me, i would go orange. You cant duplicate the fit. The trigger job can be done to the orange and than you would have an even nicer gun. Yeah it costs some more money but you cant have a standard shadow hand fit.

I considered that, but now we are looking at almost $1900.  Personally, I do not think the orange, with all the trigger work added to it, would show that significant of a difference with me shooting it.  At least not enough to justify another $550 to $600.   If I was bullseye shooting instead of action pistol shooting, then I would tend to agree with you more.

Where do you shoot? Rio Saldo? I want to try USPSA but may be a few more months before I can get out.

Yes I shoot at Rio every Tues and most weekends.  Payson too.  And, surprisingly enough, I got an email today stating the Shadow was ready.  I will be picking it up Monday.

You are probably right it will be more accurate than I will ever be. They didn't have any of the 2014 in stock otherwise I would have considered it I wanted a gun that day.

I may eventually get the short reset, polishing and extended firing pin but you are correct it does comes at an additional price.

I am still happy with it and can upgrade as required.

When are you getting your new pistol?

Stewart took my order and said it would be a couple weeks.  I am waiting impatiently, but I've been shooting my current 75 Shadow for a couple years now and it serves me well.

I wasn't trying to poo poo the orange.  I was seriously considering it.  But, when I weighed it all out, for the money I did not see me benefitting from the orange.

  7. I looked at (handled ) all 3 pistols mentioned by the OP at CZ Custom last week.  I also brought my well used 75 shadow to compare to.  I chose to order an SP01 shadow custom 2014.  The orange is nice.  It is very tight.  For me, shooting USPSA, whatever accuracy gain given by the orange or accu-shadow would not really be noticed while running and gunning.  A standard SP01 can print very respectable groups at 25 yards with a good load.  For my money, the trigger on the Shadow custom 2014 is way better than the orange. To get the same trigger on the orange would add another 250-300 to the price.  Respringing the orange with an extended FP still won't come close to the trigger job CZC puts on the shadow custom.  YMMV.

Are we getting any closer to a release date in the USA? Do we even know if we will see them this year?

I was at CZ Custom here in Mesa this week.  I asked about the Shadow 2 while looking at an SP01 Orange.  FWIW they said they did not know when the 2 will make it to the US or what the MSRP might be.

  9. If you look at the most recent USPSA mag with Nils on the cover, the front of his M2i McLearn pistol has a full length square dust cover. Looks very much similar to the RIA 1911A2 FS .40 pro match. If I see him or Brett Russo on Tuesday or next Saturday I will talk to them about what blade tech fits.

Rob had one of his Springfield wide bodies out this past Tuesday but it didn't have a full dust cover. When I see him I will ask for his Safariland recommendation. There are holsters out there that fit this pistol.

Reliable magazines is a greater concern for me.

Edit - the pistol and blade tech holster are posted on M2i custom guns facebook page. I don't know how to link the pic or page.

  10. I don't know if anyone looked, but I have not seen it referenced in a thread.

If you go to the RIA / Armscor website and look in their parts, accessories, apparel area (us.advancedtactical.com) they have listed with the mec gar magazines a para p16 mag. It specifically states that the magazine needs a base plate to work with Rock Island firearms. It just doesn't say what or who's base plate.

  11. Hi guys,

    New member here.

I just picked up a .40 pro match model #51738. I have read this thread and the other RIA thread a couple times and I am still not clear.

Is this the correct combo for magazines for this pistol - mec gar para p16 mags part # MGP164015 (B/N), grams 11 coil spring with follower and a dawson para p16 extended base pad part #005004 / 005003?

19-20 rounds is ok with me as long as it's reliable.

    Thanks.
