I think you might have a tough time making enough gas to run the comp with the 147’s and a small charge of powder. No matter how low you go on the spring. I have tried a 10lb spring on glocks before when searching for a steel challenge load, but anything less than 11-12lbs has a tough time returning the gun battery constantly.

With that comp you can for sure get 124’s to run, but you might even try 115’s and use a little more powder. You will make more gas and the comp will work more efficiently and effectively as designed. I can’t comment on that powder as I haven’t used it.

Racking it by hand with the 11# is already iffy to get it back in battery.

What other powders will work well with the 124s?  BE-86 or sport pistol i've seen good stuff written about.  Any others I should try?  I was going to find a box of 124s locally, and get a selection of powders and do a couple of tests until I find what it likes, and I like.

  2. I just built a new G19 with a 2 port carver comp and even with the 11# spring it doesn't want to cycle my existing inventory of 135ish PF 147s.  It cycles 124gr gold dots and 147gr HST +Ps just fine (those are 140-145 PF i think).  What is the best way to get this thing to work?

I'd prefer something softish shooting for training the kids/wife/etc.  As of now I have no bullets to burn up, so I'm open to whatever bullet weight.  Only caveat is that I'd like to avoid lead, but plated, poly coated are on the table. Also powders I should be looking at would be useful.  During the great powder shortage I scored an 8# keg of 700x so I've been shooting that with the 147s I have now, but I'm willing to go with whatever.

  3. I guess I should have given more info. We just ordered a 5" M&P9 (using his mom's LE discount) and we'll start with USPSA limited. When the pistol shows up, its getting sent off for trigger/action work and will be a dedicated race gun. And yeah, he will out grow it, but I have two boys younger than him, so not to worried about throwing away gear - it will get used.
