  1. I ran a Gen 2 Glock mag version in a few matches, but ended up selling it for a few reasons.

    1. You can not disassemble the receiver to clean and lube the trigger group.

    2. The trigger has a lot of creep, and is heavy.

    3. The recoil is very sharp. Adding two 7/8" dia. rubber washers helped.

    4. Adding optics is difficult and expensive.

    5. The front sight windage adjustment is held in place by a spring.

    6. The carbine does not have a last round bolt hold open.

    7. The factory picatinny/m-lok forearm had to be shimmed to remove any movement.

It was fun to shoot after I replaced the front sight post with a Hi-viz fiber front post, but it was difficult to hang with the AR-9s, MPXs, and CZ Scorpions.

  2. What causes the 9mm firing pins to break? Is it the rapid forward and aft cycling of the bolt, interior geometry of the bolt, or the repeated impact of the hammer?

I'm leaning more toward the repeated hammer impacts and possible hammer spring weight.

If you have had a firing pin break, who was the manufacturer, and what trigger/hammer/spring setup do you have?

  3. I'm loading a 124gr Xtreme flat nose, over 4gr of TG, seated to 1.14" for my Glocks and 9mm AR. I'm consistently getting 1" groups (5 rounds) at 50 yards.

The AR is a KVP/Faxon reamed 16" barrel.

I need to shoot for groups and drop at 100 yards soon.

  4. I ordered a Crimson Trace 206 for my 9mm AR. It will be secondary to my Fastfire. Where are you mounting your lasers; 12 or 6 o'clock, 45° offset?

What distance are you zeroing the lasers? I've seen where a few guys have zeroed at 10 yards.

Currently I'm thinking 12 o'clock, zeroed at 10 or 15 yards for USPSA and outlaw speed steel matches.

    Thanks,

    Lucas

  5. Sure it's not lead and carbon build-up? It happens if you are shooting cast/coated/plated bullets in a rough bore or with hot powder.

If your comp caught a bullet, your comp would be down range. Or part of your comp will be down range.

  6.
Over on (heaven forbid) Doodie, Max indicated he used a "10.5 faxon barrel (shitty barrel btw, the chamber sucks)".

But he is running Taccom's comp on it.

Chamber doesn't suck, the short throat sucks. My reamed Faxon/KVP barrel is grouping 1" @ 50 yards with my handloads, and has functioned 100%

  7. My Google skills are not working today. I can find restrictions that limit rifle muzzle brake/compensator sizes, but I can't find anything about Pistol Caliber Carbine muzzle device sizes, for any of the shooting originations.

I found a comp I like, but it's .90" dia. I'm wondering if I should stick with a JP or SLR that are .84" dia.

    Thanks

  8. I have the Faxon barrel and often have a tough time removing the chambered round at ULASC.  It has been mentioned that the Manson reamer can be bought for $40.  I can't seem to find the F9MMLUGB for less than $70.

Are you guys removing the barrel from the upper to do the reaming?  It seems possible to do it with the barrel attached to the upper but might require an extension.

The Manson reamer direct from Manson (you have to call them) is $40 with the solid pilot. The T-Handle extension is $16, if you don't want to pull your barrel.

I ended up having to pull my Faxon/KVP barrel and use a drill motor to cut through the nitride finish.

  9. So far this is NOT what I am seeing at matches.  Myself and those I have shot with are not having this problem.  I am shooting the SBR version and am up in the air about the size.  It is good for getting through some cramped stages but it does force me to have a short hand guard.  I have also notice that some stage designers have you start with the muzzle on an X placed on the wall.  They then place the X low for the 16" barrels.

We've seen punctured primers, failures to feed and eject, and firing on trigger reset. That's with three different sbr'd MPX's, each having one or two of the failures listed above.

  10. I reamed the throat Saturday. I learned the melonite finish is difficult to start cutting.

I ended up going deeper than planned, but I didn't loose any accuracy with factory 115gr, or my 124gr 1.145" handloads.

  11. You think Faxon/Kaw Valley and PSA would have noticed by now.

I ordered a Manson reamer and t-handle a few days ago. It looks like I might make my money back. A few USPSA and IDPA guys in my club want the throats in their CZ Scorpions and PSAs opened and lengthened.

Thanks for the help. I've spent too much time on here reading about throats and buffer weights.

  12. Bamboo, I've spent a lot of time reading your thread. Will the extra .001" make a difference? I only shoot plated and sometimes jacketed. My last search for a Clymer 9mm reamer came up as sold out.

Will the new throated area wear faster? I'm assuming it's not an issue being this is a pistol caliber.

Aircooled, being a used KVP, I would be thrilled to get $100 shipped for it. Right now I'm leaning towards reaming the throat.

This barrel is almost one hole group accurate @ 25 yards, but the good groups are 1.75" and bad are 4.5" @ 50 yards.

  13. I have a 16" KVP/Faxon 9mm barrel on my PCC. It groups 115gr WWB and my 124gr titegroup Glock load very well at 50 yards. It does not like my various 100gr, 115gr, 147gr loads that work for my Glocks. The 124gr load is too long for the throat.

I'm debating on buying a Manson reamer, or replace the barrel with a JP. Only cons with replacing is the added weight of the JP vs. KVP, and I already know my head space is good with the KVP bolt and barrel combo.

If you have reamed a Faxon/Kaw Valley barrel, did the finish cause and problems or chatter?

    Thanks
