Started with a G20 in 40 and took it all the way to A class in Limited.
Nothing wrong with that combination.

I did hear Mr. Bayou Bullets tell someone that he had coated some lead 30 cal bullets and ran them in a 30cal carbine.
The coating held up at those speeds.

Altering your gun in any way to be legal just for Chrono or Inspection is not within the rules of the game.
ALtering your gun and shooting it that way is another story.
On a side note, Do you know what a set of chronos cost? If you handed a gun with altered sights to the RO shooting at the Chrono stage, they may not have the bullet within chrono. They may however destroy it.

Sorry to hear your situation.
If you have informed the Match Director, Club President, Range Owner, and anyone up in the chain of authority, you've make an honest attempt at fixing the situation. Sounds like a prime case for litigation, if it can be established that safety violations are NOT being handled properly. Someone will get hurt and everone who enjoys a range anywhere in the country will have to pay higher insurance, and some ranges and clubs will have to shut it down because it'll be the financial straw that breaks the camel's back.
Either get commited to making a change, or leave.

If you take anything away from all of this, please let it be "this could have been prevented with a pre-match walk through".
If a small group of 3 or 4 experienced shooters would have walked the stages, chances are one of them would have seen the target visible from that position and suggested adding some simple barrier to fix the situation.

10.5.3 If at any time during the course of fire, or while loading, reloading or
unloading, a competitor drops his handgun or causes it to fall, loaded
or not. Note that a competitor who, for any reason during a course of
fire, safely and intentionally places the handgun on the ground or other
stable object will not be disqualified provided:
8.3.1 “Make Ready” – This command signifies the start of “the Course of
Fire”. Under the direct supervision of the Range Officer the competitor
must face down range, or in a safe direction as specified by the Range
Officer, fit eye and ear protection, and prepare the handgun in accordance
with the written stage briefing. The competitor must then assume
the required start position. At this point, the Range Officer will proceed.

Just bought a Savage Long Range Precision Varminter in 260 REM.
Topping it with a Leupold VXIII 8-15x50mm VH Reticle.
I'll let you know how it works out.
