  1. I think it would be sweeter (and less research) to use a box stock M&P Pro (better factory trigger & sights than Glock) with a magwell and extended basepads and prove it that way. By sticking with the CZ he has a lot of "But" "But" excuses he can fall back on.

True, a bone stock M&P Pro would probably do it, I just haven't found a polymer gun that I like enough to actually buy. Not to mention shoot in uspsa, lol

  2. BUT I'VE ALREADY GOT THE SP01! So buying a Tanfolio would be an extra cost to me!

Rowdy, that's exactly my plan. I just want to shut a friend up. Lol. He shoots loom major with a g35 that's had $2k of work, I wanted to prove that is not necessary

LOL, a Tanfoglio Elite Match, with better sights, is probably one of the most cost effective ways to go limited Major.

  3. Rowdy, that's exactly my plan. I just want to shut a friend up. Lol. He shoots lim major with a g35 that's had lots of elective work, I wanted to prove that is not necessary

  4. I saw the Taran Tactical pads, but they don't have a matching magwell.

And I am on a little bit of a budget, I have the SP01 9mm, and a spare top end in 40s&w. Ive shot and handled the TacSports and CZ97, I didn't like the size. If a grip reduction can be done, great. But I already have the SP01.

  5. I'm wanting to setup my sp01 40 to shoot limited major, but I can't seem to find any magwell / base plate combo. Ive got baseplates from Taylor Freelance and a magwell from CZC, but they don't play well together.

Any recommendations? I'd like to have the magwell. I could just ditch it, but I really like the way it works on the Tactical Sports. I just want that performance from the small frame!

  6. i've been looking for one for a while, and i keep coming up empty. part of me wants to just say SCREW IT and order up the aluminum magwell, take a hundred measurements, make one out of stainless and then SELL the aluminum one. then i realize that it's not really feasible.

so, if anyone knows of a source for a CZ Magwell (to fit the 75B, 85 and SP01) that's steel, stainless steel or any other variation of these metals, please let me know!

  7. im kicking around the idea of building an Open gun from a 2011 STI frame. it would be 9mm Major (hopefully) with a Trijicon RMR solid mounted to the slide. my question is this: can i successfully compensate a 9mm in a commander length barrel? or should i look into 38 Super?

FYI, i'm a machinist and amateur gunsmith. i know enough about the inner workings on a 1911 to build one. it won't be anywhere near one built by a reputable 'smith, but i do know it will function. lol

    thanks for the advice gents!

  8. i'm running an SP-01 that i had my gunsmith at work upgrade with the CGW parts. type 3 disconnector, short reset system, short reach trigger, and some fancy springs. i'm still running the night sights, but they will get switched out by next spring! this will be a limited-minor gun, i'm going to find a magwell and a stack of more mags, and i'll be set!

you'll be more than happy with your results

  9. ok, I'm getting serious about my USPSA shooting now, and i need some advice on equipment.

currently i'm running a SIG 1911 in Single Stack, but i want to shoot production (so i can actually compete with my friends) and i need gear. right now i've got a Galco Instructor's belt with 2 double mag pouches and a cheapo holster that came with the SIG.

with this new pistol i'm thinking i need a better setup. i like the DOH holster on the CZ Custom website, but what kind of belt should i get? and maybe mag carriers too?

    thanks for the advice

    -Erik

oh, i'll need more magazines too. any preferred brand? should i stick with factory CZ magazines?

  10. welcome from Brooklyn Park!

as Jon said, Minnetonka Game and Fish club hosts USPSA matches, there's a league that shoots there on Wednesday nights at 530 (i think, it might be 6) until sundown. i try to make it to those matches, but frequently i'm stuck at work until the match starts!

best things of advice i can give are this:
    -shoot

    -slow down

-go to the match, even if you think you're not ready. it's like a bowling league, nobody cares if you're the worst, someone has to be.

    -shoot

-listen to the guys who've been doing it for years

i hope to see ya out there some time

  11. i've found that if i, personally, am listening to something heavy (and i prefer my music to scare children) i don't shoot that well. i'm still pretty new to this, and i don't have the solid skill set that many people have. if i, however, listen to Pink Floyd or Trans-Siberian Orchestra, where there's heavy AND mellow parts to every song, and there isn't a lot of singing, i do much better.

i was just talking to JShuberg about this on Sunday at the range. ironic

  12. Flexmoney, i've already BEEN shooting the SIG 1911 as a Single Stack gun, i'm just looking forward to bringing it out of the do-it-all category, and transforming it into the competition-only category. i'll lighten the trigger, maybe lighten the slide, add a magwell, pin the grip safety, add some fiber-optic sights, etc.

you know, things that normally aren't done to a carry gun (which i am currently doubling the pistol for)

Reshoot, MERRY CHRISTMAS to you too!

  13. hello from Minnesota! id like to share a little bit about myself:

im a 31 year old Marine, served from '00 to '04 with a little time in the sandboxes in Iraq, im a father of three beautiful little girls (7, 5, and 2), i built a couple choppers (expensive hobby), ive built a few ARs (not nearly as expensive), and im looking forward to building my first 1911. im a sales guy and range offiver at the local indoor range where ive been for 2 years now, amd i started shooting USPSA last spring.

im a full time college studemt at the local tech college where im getting some skills in machinjng, weldjng amd CAD

my firearms "collection" is comprised of mainly long guns (aks, ars, hunting rifles, 2 mosins, bird guns, and a tacticool 870) and ive got two, thats right TWO handguns. my revolver isnt very USPSA friendly, its a 6" ported 357mag. my only semi auto fills a lot of roles. its a SIG 1911, the base model. ive had a little work on the trigger, and thats about it. its my USPSA gun, my carry weapon, my home-defense go-to gun, my range toy, amd my favorite gun. ive had a bunch, but the other guns (fnh fnp's amd fnx's, berettas, amd an XDm) but they werent as fu as my 1911 is.

im lookkng to customize my next 1911 for filling all those roles i previously mentioned except as a USPSA Single Stack gun, thats gonna be my SIG.

my friend and customer, JShuberg, told me i should check this place out, so here i am.

    thanks for having me,

    Erik
