The examples given make no sense. Newbie number 1 and newbie number 2 who both struggle to hit the A zone, give no.1 a major gun and suddenly his match results improve.
Is this because of some flawed advantage? No, it just means his terrible shooting isn't such a penalty.
Now no.2 goes out and practices, suddenly he is beating no.1 due to actually hitting the part of the target you're supposed to aim for. So by Jeffs logic that means that minor is flawed and has too great an advantage over major right?

The only thing that really stood out to me was the draw. After the beep you draw, and then start to move.
You'll gain little bits of time here and there by moving immediately, as you'll already be part way through the first step as you get the gun out of the holster.

A couple of points I think are worth mentioning. Shoot paper if possible, unless you have A zone size steel, as it's easy to fall in the trap of just shooting to hit rather than shooting for alphas.
Change up your start position, surrender starts are worth practicing but most matches won't have you starting that way on every stage (or at least that has been my experience in IPSC). There are plenty of different options, hands at sides, hands on marks on wall or table, gun and/or mags on table etc.
Load your mags up, you can practice all you want with them downloaded, but there is a big difference in weight and force needed to seat a mag at division capacity than one with only 6 rounds. Unless you want to work on slide lock reloads, in which case down load the first mag and reload to a full one.
Lastly, I would change your drill number 5 to Four Aces. Instead of 1 shot and reload. Draw, shoot two alphas, reload and shoot two more.

Double alpha have water proof IPSC targets on their web shop. Not sure about the patches though.

I sadly can add to this list now. My plastic STI 2011 grip no longer holds my mag catch in place. The ledge on the left side which keeps the button from pushing through has given out and caused my mag catch spring and plunger to launch on the line for load/make ready at the match today before ever firing a round.
I've just had a problem with my grip also. I had the gun apart for cleaning and noticed a crack behind the mainspring housing, on closer inspection I found its broken right through. It hasn't been an issue so far as the magwell keeps it together, but I have a new one on the way.

Do you travel much to shoot? Other clubs in your area may be using a different system that you might copy.
Most of the clubs in eastern Colorado use 6 or 8 foot long walls made from 2x4s and covered with orange snow fence. The walls are maybe 7 feet tall with legs that slide into steel feet. The feet are made from square steel tubing that accepts a 2x4, maybe a foot high and welded to a flat piece of steel like an upside down "T". There is a hole drilled on each end of the flat steel foot to take a spike to hold up the wall in the wind.
I don't have any pictures but I can't believe these are exclusive to this area. Does anyone else have pictures if a similar setup?
We have just made something similar to what you describe.

Does anyone here bolt the gear directly to the outer belt? I've found that there isn't all that much velcro left to hold on as well as I'd like with too many tekloks, or is it just a case of using belt keepers to hold it all up?

Nzshooter, I found the pvc clips on Amazon, 10 clips for 3.60. Ordered 20 clips. What did you use to mount the clips? Looks like pvc.
The back plate is where I started getting really inventive. I couldn't find any kind of plastic solid enough for my liking, so I used a bit of 100mm plumbing pipe that I found in the workshop. I cut it in half, heated it with a heat gun and flattened it out between a couple of bits of steel plate I found. After a few goes at it, it was flat enough to work.
I'm sure someone can find a better alternative and I am looking forward to seeing how I can make mine better.

Those are cool clips. How does the gap between each fit the fingers? Are you planning to mount that on a belt a Tek-Lok or some such attachment? I may have to give those a try. I bet a little removal of material between clips might make it quad-able....maybe. I just love ingenuity of 3Gun DYI.
Already using a teklok to mount on my belt. I don't find the gap to be a problem, but like all things it can be improved. One of the guys I shoot with has been making some mounts out of alloy that are attached in 2s or 4s and can be rotated a bit more easily.

Here is my contraption, put together a while ago using plastic clips for electrical conduit. I had to sand them a bit as they were too tight to start with but they work pretty well so far.
Edit. Ok turns out I don't have enough posts to link to the pics on imgur. If anyone would like to see pm me, or perhaps someone could post the pics up for me.

How much were the clips? Any PN on them?
I've got a vest using the 'broom handle clips' and it's not bad, but the width of them makes it a bit rough for the way I want to grab them out...resulting in a bit of blood now and then, and not so possible ego ever consider grabbing quads.
With the clips above, I'd wager you want to spread them further apart in height, unless you have really small hands.
Are you going to mount to a vest, or belt via Tek-loc or other?
Well for me the clips were free as I had a box in my work van that never got used. But last time I checked they were about $2NZ or so each. Sorry not sure what you mean by PN. They are made for 20mm electrical conduit, I found different brands had varying degrees of success, one lot worked right out of the box and the others needed a bit of sanding to loosen up.

Haha I do have smallish hands but I might have to experiment a bit now that I have proven the concept. At the moment I'm using teklocs to mount to my belt which works well for me as l load with my weak hand.

$70 a pound is pretty standard here in New Zealand for AP70, or at least the last lot I bought was. I think the last time I saw win 231 it was $330 for 4 pounds.
Not that I really follow it much but the aussie and US dollars aren't usually too far apart, the NZ dollar on the other hand is lucky to make it to 85 US cents.

Zip ties? I drilled a couple of holes in a Contour mount and zipped it to my NVG mount on my kevlar. It works like a champ.
You should be able to do the same to the top portion of your muffs.
I did something similar. Drilled a couple of holes in the headband mount that it came with and used the mounting screws from the rail sections to attach it to my moe handguard. Of course that only covers filming my rifle.

Greetings from the other side of the world, more or less. Im a recreational shooter, I do a bit of hunting, ipsc and have recently gotten hooked on 3 gun.
