  1. Your set up is similar to mine. I too, noticed a difference in recoil when I switch from my 18in barrel at the start of this season. I said difference because I never noticed an increase in muzzle rise or recoil. Sure If you sit down and focus just on recoil off a bench you will noticed a difference, under the timer however, its much harder to realize that.

I have tuned my rifle for offhand shots at 50 yards. Its not a perfectly flat shooting rifle, but I know how it reacts and recoils which is more important so I can track my dot and know where it is going to go.

As far as the new bleed off gas block, I won't ever be convinced of venting off extra gas for our game. Just think about it, you bleed off pressure which will drop your velocity no matter what. I run a SLR7 and once I get it dialed in, I open it up one more click and leave it. I have not adjusted it all year and that's after several thousands of rounds. I know that it is frozen right now, and I will remove it this off season and get it broken free again.

I suggest spending some time adjusting buffer weights and even spring weights along with an adjustable block. Don't focus too much on getting your rifle to shoot "flat", in the long run you will spend more time focusing on getting it dialed in perfectly when you should get it set up so its good, reliable and practice with it. Once I started doing that, rather than tinkering with all of my gear, my performance increased and it showed at major matches this season.

If you have questions, feel free to PM me. I can tell you what my set up is but remember it works for me and its how I like it. Everyone is different, my friend and I have the exact same set up, minus receivers and BCG, yet his to me, shoots flatter than mine but our offhand shooting and rifle work is relatively close because we both know our OWN rifles performance.

  2. Thank you guys. Once I get some free time I and going to work on this again and I will post some pictures of the how it looks after I get it the way I want. Going to remove some material from other areas to aid in manipulation and try to make loading easier, should be a fun little experiment lets hope it works.

  3. I have been working on my Super Nova a little bit at a time and I am wondering how much some of you guys have opened up the load port for quad loading. the trigger housing has part of the port attached to it and I was thinking about removing the front portion of it completely where is joins back into the receiver as it looks like it would be strong enough to hold up without breaking the sides off.

Does anyone have pictures of how much material they have removed from their ports? I can take some pictures later of the work I have already done and some of the areas I have marked out to take into work and play on the mill with.

  4. Just to be sure before I sign up, in Trooper, you can set you gear down when you get to the stage correct? You only have to carry all of it transporting between stages. I have been reading the rules and my guess is carry all transporting between stages but set it down when you get there to aid in resetting and what not. Also is the area where we will lock all our gear up at the end of the day at the club shop or will it be up on the range?

Never shot Ironman and I am glad it is coming to the East side so I can try my hand at Trooper.

  5. Andy is going to have his work cut out for him for 2016 to make the match even tougher!!! This was my second year at BRM and I will continue to come back year after year for Andy's matches. You don't get what he puts into a stage at any other major match on this side of the country, I am assuming Iron Man is similar.

Thank you to all the ROs for all their hard work all week long and to Rockcastle for letting Andy play around on their facility yet again. Andy has my following for sure, if he puts on any other matches of a similar format, you can bet that I will show up with at least a couple other Michigan shooters.

  6. Bring your money with you because this rifle is going to be at the match this year to be auctioned off to benefit Task Force Dagger! I worked with my sponsor along with other companies to put this together so someone can have a ready to shoot rifle right from the start.

    Build list:

Motor City Gun Works upper and lower

    Hiperfire 24c

    Stretch 16" melonited barrel

    Lantac Dragon comp

SLR series 7 adjustable gas block

    13" BCM KMR handguard

    JP Low Mass BCG

    JP Low Mass buffer

    ACE stock

    Warne Scope Mounts X-Skel

    Vortex 1x6 Strike Eagle

I want to thank all of the companies that helped make this build possible, Motor City Gun Works, Hiperfire, Strongside Tactical, Vortex, and Warne Scope Mounts. Without the supoprt of these companies I don't know if this build would have been possible.

I also want to thank Andy Horner, Keith David and Mike Cassidy for giving me the opportunity to help out Task Force Dagger this year.
