If I was going to put a magwell on my CZ P09 I would go with Springer Precision. I've had very good luck with their stuff. I wish we could put a magwell on for carry optics. But no buena.

    Thx

  2. I would like to get some feedback on which magwell & base pads I should add to my P-09.  The only magwells I know about are Springer Precision & CZ Custom.  Both of them make the larger base pads for mags, but so does Greg Cote, LLC.  Pro's & con's of any of the above?  Others I am not thinking about?  Thanks.

  3. Has anyone installed Safariland's Model 6281HDA Holster Drop Adapter on a 578 GLS holster?  I want to drop my holster a bit, but am afraid that the 6281HDA will be so low that it will not be allowed in USPSA Production division.  I am also interested in whether or not it makes the rig floppy or weaker.

    Thanks.

  4. Thanks everyone for the insight, pics and story. Looks like I will be putting an A2 front post near the muzzle break. Right now I am leaning towards buying a RRA Standard A4 complete upper, upgrading to their (Wilson Combat) stainless steel barrel, their chrome bolt, and their Operator muzzle break. It comes with an A2 front post so I will have to buy a low profile gas block and install it. I already have a 15" Samson forearm. Should be a nice setup.

I was looking at their (RRA) national match uppers, but they are very heavy.

  5. I am thinking about building a new AR upper strictly for Tac Irons division. I cannot use a dot (eyesight / astigmatism / fuzzy dot) so old school iron sights are what I will be using. It will be a rifle length gas system. I really like the idea of a long free float forearm (like Samson's Evolution) had having the front sight all the way out on the end. My fear is that the slight movement of the floating forearm will cause accuracy to suffer - and I DO NOT want that.

Does anyone make a low profile gas block / forearm combo that secure to one another? Securing the forearm to the gas block should eliminate movement. Is there a reason why you shouldn't do this that I am not aware of? (other than defeating the purpose of a free floating forearm)

  6. I haven't decided whether or not I'm gonna send mine to Sig, Grays, or if I'm going to do it myself but I am most likely going to install the SRT. Sigs have a really long reset typically, unless the SRT is installed. I'm going to shoot the gun first to be sure but I'm almost positive that will be a necessary change. Does it void the factory warranty if I install the SRT? Sig sells them so I don't see why it would.

For a holster I bought a Bladetech Black Ice OWB holster along with the BOSS hanger from Ben Stoegers Pro Shop.

    Next question.

Does anyone know the stock sight height on the X5 Allround? I'm going to install a fiber optic sight in the front and I want to get the correct height. I was going to send it to Dawson Precision to have the sights installed but I think I'm just gonna buy a sight tool and do it myself.

I have to say that the folks at Gray Guns do great work. I got their reduced reset comp duty package and the trigger is 100% better. Fantastic. FWIW I like my Bladetech DOH holster, but am thinking about trying the Safariland ALS low or mid holster for more retention assurance for 3-gun.

  7. I've shot TACIRONS for the past 2 years because thats what I was used to and thats what I liked.

I loved shooting long range rifle and making quick hits when guys with high powered scopes were burning through mags.

But then there's been times when its sucked too, and thats part of the game.

What has frustrated me is that the ONLY difference between the divisions is one optic on one gun.

Literally every other thing is the same when compared to TACOPS and its not like the differences between TACOPS, OPEN, or HM.

If you want to attract more shooters to the IRONS division, then we need some more changes to the division gear.

A PRODUCTION class would be welcome by many shooters who are going to be casual competitors because of the lower cost to entry, and with that probably lower expectations.

Not everyone is going to be a world class 3 gunner, nor has $4-5k to drop on gear, travel, training, and ammo each year.

Hell, I'd shoot a PRODUCTION class in 3 Gun in a heartbeat just to try it out.

With such large distinctions between TACOPS, OPEN, and HM in 3 Gun...

And such large distinctions between PROD, LIM, OPEN, Single Stack in USPSA...

This would probably fit well and generate even more interest for people looking to start shooting 3 Gun - especially on a budget.

Thank you Moltke. Finally someone who is open to discussing it. If shooting a Production grade pistol made very little difference as many have stated, there would be more people shooting .40 cal Glocks in USPSA Limited division.

  8. Wow. This topic went way off into left field pretty quick. Appreciate all of the points of view. I still feel like an entry level division would be less intimidating to newcomers and attract more people to the sport. Limited / Tac Irons feels like a good fit. The guys with the tricked out 9mm 2011's could throw a scope onto their AR and play in Tac Ops. I don't think they would balk much at scaling back the pistol requirements for the irons division. Just my opinion.

I shoot tac/limited only for 3 years now with a G34. If you start to "limit" mag capacity in all 3 guns then the shooter will NOT have room on the belt to carry enough mags/shells to complete most of the stages! Your "production" 9mm pistols can hold the same as a 2011.Remember tricked out 9mm 2011's are only 1 of 3 guns. You must master ALL 3 to win....

Not talking about limiting mag capacity. You are right - not enough room for mags. Just talking about only allowing pistols on the approved Production list.

  10. I was just on another thread where they were discussing adding/modifying a USPSA pistol division, and it made me think of this. Why wouldn't the Tac Irons / Limited division have the pistol choices restricted to the USPSA Production division list? This is the division that new shooters try first, and there is no doubt that the competitor shooting a tricked out 2011 in 9mm has a distinct advantage over the guy shooting his G17. Has there been discussion on this?

  11. I have a CZ75 SP01 Shadow Target straight from the CZ Custom Shop. I received it late last year after a long wait, and I absolutely love it. With that said...if I had to do it all over again I believe I would buy a regular SP01 and send it to Automatic Accuracy or Cajun Gun Works for their upgrades. Less of an investment and from the reports of people who have had work on their CZs performed by them, there cannot be much difference from what I have right now.
