    June of last year, I switched back to Limited from Production. Now, eight months and several thousand dollars later, I have one gun that doesn't work, and one pile of parts all over the bench. I've ruined four or five barrels trying to learn to fit the damn things, trashed a grip frame, broken parts, and generally wasted a huge amount of time.

    The frustrating thing is that I'm normally very good with my hands. But working on 1911/2011-pattern guns just doesn't seem to click, and I don't know why.

    I wish I still had my Glock 35.

    1.) Blade Runner

    2.) Donnie Darko, just edges out 12 Monkees in the category of "Best Delirious Time-Travel Movie." Shame the writer lost his freaking mind for the next movie.

    3.) Ghost in the Shell

    4.) Dark City. I caught this one in the theater knowing nothing about the plot, and didn't sleep well for several days therafter.

    5.) Total Recall. There's one from out in left field, but a fantastic sci-fi epic mystery just the same.

    Rudy Projects w/ RX inserts?

    I've been using and recommending Rudy Project glasses for almost ten years. Unfortunately, I can no longer do so.

    I originally used a set of Rudy Project Rydons with the Rx insert. It worked well enough, but the Rx insert sits very close to my eyes, close enough that I could brush them with my eyelashes. This got annoying after a while.

    So, I ordered a set of DirectRx Racing Red lenses. All seemed right with the world, except after about six months, the corners of the lenses cracked and broke off so that they would no longer stay in the frame. No problem, Rudy Projects' lens warranty is ironclad. So I took the lenses back to my optician, only to find that Rudy's ironclad warranty does not apply to prescription lenses, and that I'm out of pocket to replace a defective set of lenses.

    A phone call to Rudy's customer service department yielded no satisfaction.

    So, at this point, I'm shopping for a new set of shooting glasses. I can't recommend Rudy Project glasses except in plano, non-prescription format, and advisedly even then. I'm really not happy with the customer service that I got from Rudy.

    Update - just got back from the range. The malfunctions aren't happening as frequently, but I'm still getting some failures. Maybe 10 failures to go into battery in 250 rounds.

    I'm using basically the same load, 185grn. black bullets, 1.170" OAL, but with a 0.417" crimp.

    One further observation - I have 4 STI 140mm magazines, two with Grams internals and Dawson pads, two with Bolen everything, and 6 SVI 140mm magazines with Bolen everything. Most of the malfunctions happened while using the SVI mags.

    Any ideas?

    Might have this one sorted. It looks like the problem was a combination of things.

    - I pulled out the extractor and examined it very closely, under magnification and bright lights. Surprise surprise, I found a tiny burr just at the top of the relief cut. Three strokes with the #2 Swill pillar file cleaned that up. Hand-cycling some dummy rounds through the gun felt much smoother afterwards.

    - The chamber was pretty dirty. The MPro7 bath helped.

    - My Precision moly load was sticking in the chamber just a tiny bit. I knew this from chamber-checking my match ammo, but had ignored it up until now because that load fed and ejected just fine. I realize now that I was probably right on the edge of feedway malfunctions. Since I've about run through this batch of ammo, I may try shortening the OAL on that load to 1.150-1.160".

    I have a 5" TSS STI Limited gun, short/wide dust cover, lightened Classic slide. I'm the second owner of the gun.

    Since I got it, I've put about 2000 flawless rounds through it. I replaced the recoil spring with an ISMI 12.5# spring about 1000 rounds ago, and the gun is otherwise just as it left Benny's shop. Last weekend I shot it in a local 3-gun match and had no trouble.

    I normally shoot a Precision 185grn. black bullet over 4.5grn. of Ramshot Competition at 1.170" OAL. I also sometimes use a 180grn. Zero over 4.4grn. Titegroup, same length.

    Yesterday, I went out to practice. About 200 rounds into my practice session, the gun started failing to go into battery. The bullet would be stuck partway into the chamber. Usually, a light tap on the back of the slide would get it running again. It was doing this literally every shot.

    I stripped the gun down last night, cleaned it, gave the extractor tunnel a good scrubbing, checked the extractor (AFTEC) for burrs, etc. Nothing to be found.

    I shot again today, and had more of the same problem. Interestingly, when I switched to the 180grn. Zero load, I had fewer malfunctions, maybe every 5-6 rounds.

    Right now I've got the gun stripped down and the barrel soaking in MPro7. I'm going to call Benny tomorrow, but until then is there anything else I should look at?

    223 econo load

    I'm curious if anyone has tried Benchmark for 223 with their 55 gr and 69 gr bullets???
    Lately I've been using 25.2grn. of Benchmark pushing a Hornady 55grn. FMJ-BT for my short-range (sub 300y) load. Very clean, and will hold inside 5" at 300 from my 17" MSTN barrel. Never tried it with the 69s.

    Meh. I've used cinched magazines, and every so often I contemplate going back to them, but they don't provide any advantage over monopoding off a single mag. They make it a tad easier to reload while prone, and that's about all.

    So why do we think we need a new rule? Fewer rules are better, in shooting as in everything else.

    Matches near the 2009 SHOT Show?

    I just confirmed my reservations for the 2009 SHOT Show in Orlando, January 14-18. In keeping with the theme of the trip, I'd like to shoot a local match (or two?) while I'm down there. I see that there are Friday night matches with the Gulf Coast Lead Slingers in Clearwater, and a Saturday USPSA match at PPS in Brooksville. Are there any other matches I should check out? Steel, even multigun?

    I was thinking side-to-side rather than end-to-end - stack two 47-round magazines together side by side, and you've got a limited-legal monopod that you can reload easily from prone. I'm normally not a fan of stacked magazines, but this might be worth playing with...

    Almost no one, and outside of Trooper class, no one at all who wins. MOLLE rigs are sllloooowww...

    If you're running out of space on your belt, you might try one of Mark Otto's shotshell chest rigs. They're fast, reasonably comfortable, and well made. You can get 4 six-round CCW Quik-Strippers on it, which will free up a lot of space on your belt.

    4-5 mags is an awful lot for multi-gun. I usually carry one 22-rounder in the gun, and two spares.
