I've got a Razor 1-6 JM, a MK6 and a Burris XTRII 1-8.  I have not played with the XTR 1-8 very much.  Its a lot of scope for the money and there is a lot of scope in that scope, the thing is heavier than the Vortex.  I like the MK6 reticle the best, I like the FFP reticle, but don't like the .2mrad adjustments, I like the Vortex adjustments, warranty and ease of use the best.  I would rather have 1-8 v.s 1-6n but in practical terms, there are few times that 8x is really needed or of a benefit over 6x and I'm not sure if the extra weight it worth it.   Did I mention the XTRII is real heavy...  The eyebox is less forgiving in the XTRII.  I have used and continue to use the rifle with the Vortex razor on it the most.

The Razor HD Gen II 1-6 is 25.2 oz.  The Burris XTRII 1-8 is 24.4 oz.

  2. In the scenario I mentioned above, the constant was the rifle length gas system and the buffer weight and spring tension. The variables were the carrier mass and adjusting the gas to suit the carrier mass/ buffer weight/ spring tension. Basically isolating for what difference carrier mass can make to lock time while all else remained the same and the results I had were significant.

  3. Older thread, but yes, I got much better accuracy out of my 6.5 Grendel when I moved from a low mass carrier to a full mass carrier, but it got even better when I added a Tubbs carrier weight. I still use an adjustable gas block and tune the gas accordingly. Usually not shooting this offhand and can't really tell any difference in the recoil.

You can tell the bolt stays locked longer. I can't rechamber fired brass from the low mass carrier, but it rechambers just like it was fired from a bolt gun now.

  4. Get a Dawson CRP or Brazos HP. You can get the 4 pack of tuned mags from Brazos for $100 each with gun purchase - normally $150. It will cost you $100/mag to buy the parts and put it together yourself and his are tuned.

Dawson has a run of hard chromed CRP's for $2,340 btw.

I am thinking one of these choices. My question is bling factor aside what is the reason for chrome plating on the Edge? It is a $300 option after all.

On that CRP chrome Edge deal you are basically getting the CRP package ($2,140) with the chrome upgrade for $200 instead of $300.

  6. It won't help his shooting. He never looks at the sights anyway.

Ha! You actually have a valid point. Also I was shooting the gun about normal for me after the sight broke. And my normal points down in matches bears out your point as well. Maybe Will is right- just grind em down.

  7. Alan, I may have a replacement if you tell me what you need.

Thanks Will but I was wondering about returning it to Dawson and after some of the other posts I believe I will try that. I also ordered a microdot to try.

  8. You aren't buying a whole new sight because the fiber optic broke are you? You can just replace the fiber optic rod very easy and quick. .

Or course not. The rear of the sight broke off and it was being held together by the fiber optic. As I said I kept shooting anyway until the fiber optic broke and I lost the rear part of the sight. I still kept shooting looking through the hole in the front of the sight where the fiber goes. Don't know why it broke- I've never dropped the gun or banged it on anything.

Was just making sure. Didn't mean it as an insult but I am sure there are people out there that think that if the fiber breaks they need a new sight. Just making sure you weren't one ;)

No worries, I didn't take it that way. Sorry if it sounded like I did. I've done plenty of stupid stuff just not this time!

  9. Funny, I have a video of an IDPA match when it had been a while since I had cleaned and lubed the gun. When I loaded and made ready the gun didn't go into battery. I hit the back of the slide to force it into battery and told the SO it would be fine. Gun run perfectly the whole stage and a couple after.
