  1. XRe,

Maybe the gun has a recoil spring a little heavier than it needs?

Unless its super heavy, its just a timing thing ;) That whole notion of shooting a Bill Drill and judging the spring from where the holes end up on the target is fundamentally flawed due to a failure to account for timing. I kind of doubt that he's got something as heavy as 20# in there, so... :)

ETA - one of the really cool things about high speed vid is that it lets us actually see stuff like this ;) vettman1 could also learn some things from comparing the video to his perception of the dot movement (ie, does he see it dip down past point of aim on each shot). Someday, I'll convince shred to come out to the range with me and bring his camera along... I've been curious about how I actually do some things, too... :D

The spring is the standard light recoil spring that comes with a recoil master.

I can see the dot move up and then down past the point of aim.

I have no idea exactly what my splits are, but I'd figure when I'm shooting at the fastest rate they're somewhere between .14 and .2. That's where I usually am when I'm shooting fast, but it's only a guess so take it for what it's worth.

If you look at some other videos that I've posted there is one of me shooting a 1911 in .45 and a buckmark pistol .22. The .45 dips as well. Probably because I'm over compensating for the recoil. Funny thing though, you don't see the .460 dip down... :-) of course my spit times are much longer when I'm shooting that.

One last thing to note, Dan makes a top notch, quality gun and it's fun to see go slow. I think that is mostly because when you normally see Dan's guns, they're going so fast!

  2. I borrowed a friend's EX-F1 and took a video of me shooting my Bedell open gun at 600 frames per second. It's really cool to see the shell casings come out in a nice little line. No wonder my casings always end up in a nice little pile when shooting from one position. Enjoy!

You also might be interested in seeing me shoot my .460 in slow motion. It gives a whole new meaning to "open gun". (It does have a comp).

S&W .460 Check out my hand/wrist when the round goes off. It looks worse that it feels.

  3. Check out a Tablet PC. I've had one for about 4 years now and would not go back to a regular laptop. Most of the faculty I work with also say the same thing. Gateway 155c and the new HP 2710 are the best on the market. I prefer the Gateway overall though. Just to warn you, these will run you more than $1100. Check through your school and see if they have any special pricing. Most have deals going with Dell, HP, or Gateway that can save you some money.

  4. I switched from Dish network to Direct TV and I no longer have OLN.

Could someone PLEASE provide link to the video if/when it becomes available? It would be MUCH appreicated.

I shot the Limited Nationals this year and yes, the rain storm was bad, but it doesn't come close to the drenching we had at Area 5 earlier in 2007.

Did you know that you can add OLN for $2 per month?

  5. Isn't H110 and W296 one in the same? I've only used it in .44mag.

vettman1- I like that "...still makes major at 200yards!"

Heck, I was just looking at a ballistics calculator and it's still making major at 600 yards. That doesn't seem right, but when a 240 gr bullet is going 1850 fps at the muzzle... well you get the picture. My friend and I were joking about how his .44 magnum was going slower than mine with the same bullet weight at the muzzle compaired to mine at 100 yards.

  6. Has anyone done the dual boot thing and are the happy?

I've not used the dual boot thing, but I am using Parallels and it works pretty well with XP.

Dual boot is nice, however, it gets old quick having to reboot out of each environment. Parallels lets you stay in the OSX environment and then load the Win applications. It is really the best of both worlds.

Yes. It's pretty cool. They even have a mode called coherence that you can run windows and mac applications on the same desktop. BTW my main work machine is a Gateway laptop, but if Apple came out with a Mac with tablet capabilities, I would be changing over to a Mac.

  7. Hello,

Never used this thing before and before I buy it I have a few questions.

When using this, do I have to deprime the cases first or leave the primer in and go?

How long does the rod last for small rifle?

    Thanks

    g10

You'll need to deprime first. I just put mine through about 1900 .223 cases and I doubt that the rod would ever break. It is built like a tank!

  8. No posting of dead animals allowed on this forum. He sent me a picture and it is a seriously nice buck! I'm heading out Saturday with one anysex tag and two doe tags. Can't wait!
