  1. I don't own a Ransom rest, but I don't believe the 34 or 17L is any more mechanically accurate than the 17. They're just easier to shoot accurately due to the longer sight radius. I would be interested in seeing some Ransom rest testing though.

I've heard from a friend, who knows lots of the folks at Glock, that Glock says their most mechanically accurate gun is the G30.

I shot a G30 at a GSSF match and I was very surprised when I looked at my hits. (won a gun) It is a very accurate compact firearm and the recoil was pleasantly mild.

  2. I go with the 17 with 127PF ammo and the 34 when shooting +135PF. The lighter loads in the 34 cycle too slow. Both guns can take you to the GM level if you do your part.

  3. I really don't think a 9mm recoils enough to effect much of anything. I think the gun has less to do with that than some think. I think you can do more as the shooter than you can by switching guns.

I shoot a monthly falling steel match and I noticed a significant difference from the G17 to the SP01. It's enough for me to stay with the Glock. However, at my last match the top iron sight shooter was shooting an SP01. His times were where my times are usually when I shoot the Glock. Both guns will do the job.

  4. Doesn't make any sense (for the same load). The SP is not only allot heavier but it also has a lower bore axis (groove in frame, rail on slide). It has to be a grip issue.

Specifically, my left hand was not holding the gun as firm. On the last two stages I had to really grip it hard to keep my left hand from moving.

  5. You practice and get used to a specific gun. Changing platform means more practice with that platform to get used to it. Different guns, different reactions, different feel.

I was thinking the change in the recoil impulse is disrupting my timing and my grip would adjust over time.

  6. I recently purchased an SP01 AccuShadow thinking a heavier gun would reduce felt recoil. I was surprised to discover it was more difficult for me to manage the recoil despite the increase in weight. I regret leaving my G17 in the trunk to try another platform when I was doing so well with what I had. I suppose this is a lesson learned the hard way.

  7. Just between the two of us, at local matches I shoot at about 105,000 PF because I know I can get away with it.

You realize there is no such thing as "just between the two of us" on an open forum right?

Now we all know you cheat at local matches.

Alleged cheater, there is no actual proof. I may be lying to to get attention.

I tend to avoid that kind of attention. So now you are a cheater and a liar? :goof: Ooops, I mean alleged! My bad

We can't rule out incompetence either. I am not very good with numbers. They get all jumbled up. It felt like a good load though. Now that I think about it, it may have been 150,000 PF or maybe even 501,000 PF. I can't be sure. Sorry guys!

  9. RJH,

I was thinking the exact same thing! The recoil from a production gun is taxing over time. Just between the two of us, at local matches I shoot at about 105,000 PF because I know I can get away with it. Even still, after a 150+ round USPSA match I have to go home and soak my strong hand in epsom salt for two to three hours. Man, getting old is an exercise in humility.
