    Palmetto Gun Club outside of Charleston, SC is excited to announce The Blue Bullets and Red Hill Tactical 2018 South Carolina State USPSA Championship match on May 3rd through 5th, 2018.

     

    We are still working out some of the final details, but we have a lot of the major match information posted on our website (http://charlestonuspsa.com/2018-sc-state-championship/).

     

    We have made some changes to the format/structure of the match. Please see the general information page for full details.

    We expect to open shooter registration on Wednesday, January 24th at 8pm. If this changes, we will make a post here with the new date.

    If someone doesn't think the rules are being 100% followed at a match --- I would suggest that the person become a RO or CRO and assist in the matches in such a way as to make sure that everyone is following the rules.

    I am the MD for that particular match. The walls have a bit of play to them due to the wall stands that we use. While we didn't intend for the shooters to be able to engage the targets from a certain position, leaning on the wall (that was part of the shooting area) allowed those targets to be visible. The wall had enough play in it to allow this to happen. That's our fault for not either bracing them or otherwise creating a complete vision barrier for those targets. When I shot, I was able to hit those targets without moving the wall any more out of the way than it was naturally wanting to lean. To answer the question posed earlier in this thread --- yes, the wall sprung back. There was no actual permanent movement of the wall.

     

    It was determine that this was just bad stage setup and we let it go. Several shooters did the lean. I didn't witness anyone on the squad that I was running actually move the wall in such a way that I thought a procedural was warranted. If someone REALLY forced the wall over (like --- put their weight into it such that the entire wall and stand started to move) --- I'd have either assessed a procedural via 4.5.1.   I didn't witness this --- and neither did any of the ROs or CROs that I spoke to.

     

    There is no grey area here --- there is just a weak wall that had just the right amount of play to it.  The fact that I am even having to type this statement AGAIN is making me seriously rethink continuing our matches at this range.

    I shot a local practice match with my 9mm AR one night and the timer would not pick up all of the shots. That was with no suppressor shooting 125 gr. bullets a little over minor so not quite super sonic. I am guessing that is why the no suppressor rule.

    We had the same problem. A few of us running the PSA AR-9 and a few running JP's. The RO had to stay on top of the shooter in order for all shots to be picked up. I was surprised. I'll be experimenting and adjusting the timer sensitivity at the next match.

    POP (PCC Opposition Party)

    We had a squad full of pcc shooters at our match on saturday. I didn't really observe them but I noticed the top placed pcc guy was in 4th overall, about where he normally places with his production gun. I also noticed that the pcc squad was still on their next to last stage after the rest of us had finished the match and taken everything else down and put it away. The conclusions I can draw from this are:

    a) pcc is no advantage over an open or limited gun unless the stages are specifically designed for PCC.

    B) pcc shooters are slow, so I should avoid squadding with them or in the squads immediately behind them.\

    We had the exact opposite experience. We had a squad of 10 PCC shooters, and that squad ran a stage start to finish as fast or faster than all other squads.

    From what you wrote, I did fail to see the what you need to get your head around.

    So --- I'll take the hit for not saying that correctly. What I probably should have said was "make sure everyone has their head around this". A lot of the new guidance for PCC came out within 48 hours of our match. I wasn't sure if everyone saw it (even though I did email out links to it), and I also couldn't guarantee that everyone that saw it actually read it. Instead of taking a chance that someone was going to make an "oopsie" and DQ themselves, I figured it was more responsible of myself to just gather everyone together, do a quick PCC briefing for those shooting it, and then have a good time for the next 4 hours blasting away at some cardboard. It all worked out great, and it seems that the PCC crew was happy to have everyone on the same squad. As a matter of fact, it was probably one of the most fun matches I have shot in recent memory. It was nice being able to instantly compare performance on a stage --- especially with this being the first time some of us have ever shot a carbine in a competition before. It's the same thing as when an experienced USPSA shooter taked a brand new shooter under their wing to ensure they have a safe, fun match. The only difference here is that there were a large number of us all learning at once.

    Here's the thing -- and, this isn't throwing around a MD card at all --- it's just the honest truth when you have 60-70 people at a match expecting to enjoy great stages and a smooth flowing match. If I didn't put all of the PCC shooters in a single squad (that I was planning on running), I was envisioning dealing with slowdowns. Like I said above, the guidance came out about 48 hours before our match. The other CROs and ROs at my club probably didn't see it. Squads were going to be slowed down as the ROs tracked me down to tell me they just DQd a shooter for unbagging their gun near the sideberm of a stage without being under the direction of a RO (something that most didn't realize was OK with PCC the morning of our match).

    You have tools talking about squading all PCC shooters, as if they are Lepers. So they can get their heads around it. ITS a gun just like the pistols we have been shooting. Point at Target shoot, don't break the 180, Done!!!

    I assume this was directed at me since I made the comment about having all of the PCC shooters in the same squad at my match this past weekend. Not entirely sure now that makes me a tool. Actually, I think that makes me a responsible match director. I was shooting PCC at my match, and I wanted all of our PCC shooters in the same squad since this was the first go at it. I wanted to make sure that everyone knew the PCC rules (bagging, chamber flags, etc) and that everything ran smoothly the first time. From this point forward, PCC shooters are free to squad wherever they want. You must have never been a match director, and that's probably a good thing.

    Well --- My club (SC03) has 12 PCC shooters signed up for the match tomorrow. I'm running them all on one squad to have a chance to get everything straight in my head before we start dispersing this division throughout all 6 of our squads. I have a feeling I am in for a long day tomorrow.

    It appears to me that the equivalent of "holstered, hands relaxed at sides" is "stock on belt, muzzle pointed downrange, both hands on carbine". And up range facing start is now a down range facing start for PCC. That's what I was able to gather when reading through the classifiers.

    So I just got an email from uspsa that said that current classifier written stage briefings on the webpage are updated to show the pcc stuff... I went and looked at classifier list page and I don't see the updated course descriptions? Does anyone have a link to the amended course descriptions. (I was particularly interested in 99-07, 99-21, 99-11)

    I don't get the "shouldered" option? Not sure I want to see folks walking around with shouldered carbines. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding.

    I take this to mean something to the effect of carrying it against your shoulder, muzzle up. But, who knows. I was a little confused by this part as well.

    Not sure i like the "bolt locked open" option. Why not just have chamber flag in all instances?

    Agreed. It should just be chamber flag across the board. It's much easier to see a flag than it is to see the bolt locked open.

    I put a cmc 3.5# drop in straight trigger in mine and it's worked fine. I've only shot <150 rounds thru it, but no issues so far. I guess I'll keep trying and see how it does.

    When I called CMC about it, they said that it was very hit or miss on those triggers. Technically, they are not supported in the AR-9 platform, and that is why they are producing a model that has a hammer that is more compatible with the AR-9 bolt.

    I was unable to find a list compiled anywhere else, so I figured I would start one here in case anyone else is thinking about replacing the stock trigger in a Palmetto State Armory AR-9. If anyone else has dropped a trigger into one of these, please report back with your results. I tried a CMC, and now I have a POF on the way. I'll report on the POF as soon as I get it.

    CMC 3.5# Drop In Straight Trigger : Not compatible. Hammer follow occurs after the first round fired. If you hold the trigger back while pulling the charging handle, hammer never locks back. CMC is working on a 9mm compatible trigger that should be out in the next 6 weeks.Issue

    Use of personal vs club checking account for major matches

    Can someone please check me on this. It's my understanding that using a personal checking account for a major match would be a bad idea. This is due to the account being tied to the MD's SSN and the resultant tax liabilities that may be incurred. For example, Stripe generates a 1044-K to the IRS if you collect more than $20k (or something like that) in a year. It's always been my impression that the MD should be using an account tied to their club's EIN.

    Can anyone comment / provide some insight on this. I am not an accountant / CPA --- so, I wanted to make sure I was thinking about this correctly.
