  1. I am planning to purchase a shotgun for sporting clays and skeet. I have shot both in the past casually but I am moving to an area with a good club that I plan to join.

I have narrowed it down to the Bereta A400 Xcel and the CZ Spotted Standard Grade G2. I have had semi's and an o/u (entry level) in the past but I am struggling to make a decision, any and all advice or opinions is greatly appreciated.

  2. I have search this topic and gained a lot of knowledge but also some questions have arisen.

Correct me if mistaken but I will need a 38 special sizing die, 9mm powder and seating/taper crimp die. Brand recommendation for single stage press.

Here is where I am confused, what size bullets are used. I have seen anywhere between .355-.357 mentioned. I plan to use Berry's or Montana Gold bullets.

Please let me know as my 627 should be done next week and I need to order what's needed asap.

  3. Well,just received my S&W 627pc.

I have ordered an extended firing pin and fiber optic front sight. Was going to order Bowen Rough Country rear sight, but they are on back order due to using a new machine shop, was what they advised. My question is should I wait for these sights or is a better sight available?

Parts should be in tonight and headed to gunsmith tomorrow to drop everything off. He will be doing an action job and bobbing the hammer. Have read that some are buying an Apex hammer, but when I look at their sight they are not showing this item. Is this hammer already bobbed? or what would make it better than bobbing the factory hammer?

Anything I might have missed to improve this revolver please let me know what you think.

  4. Sorry for all the recent post but I just got into shooting the revolver in USPSA and I am more excited then I ever was in Limited. I just ordered a 627 pc and I have read on here that you can also shoot 38 short colt. My question is why would someone do this, I really don't understand the difference and I am interested in the advantages. If it is an advantage I am going to order some 38sc brass and use it. Please someone explain this.

  5. Thank you for clarifying. I just placed an order for one and wanted to make sure as I am ordering all the addition parts needed for my revolver smith to get it tuned up and really didn't want to spend the money to have it cut for moon clips.

  6. Unless you're running a barrel longer than 5", just go with a kydex holster like the Blade-Tech. Just as fast, and far more secure.

Mr. Carmoney, I wish I had received your post earlier as I already dropped the money on the DAA. By the way the 625 I just purchased from the classifieds was worked on by you and I want to let you know that it has the best trigger pull I have ever seen. My gunsmith, worked on many a USBP ppc revolver commented on how he was impressed with your work.

  7. For the 8 shooters where you are loading on the clock, Hearthco clips are a necessity. For the 625 I would just by 100 ranch moon clips for I think $75. Load them all up and shoot all weekend with out mooning up any more clips. The 625 just doesn't need the expensive clips, spend your money elsewhere, buy an 8 shooter.

I am planning to buy an 8 shooter. Talked with my gunsmith today and as son as I can find a 627pc for a good price I will pick one up. He said he can make it match ready in about a week..

  8. I just purchased a S&W 625 JM from the classified and will start shooting in the revolver class at the next local match. I ordered 20 TK Custom stainless steel moon clips and I am wondering if they will work with Starline brass? I have about 500 rounds of mixed brass but I am considering purchasing 1000 pieces of Starline brass. Can anyone advise as I don't want to buy them if they are not going to work. Thanks.

  9. I have been shooting USPSA Limited for a few years and last year I started using the DAA Racer holster. Now, I have decided to start shooting Revolver and need a holster. I am looking at the DAA Race master with muzzle extension and the CR Speed WSM II.

    Any thoughts or recommendations?
