  1. I just started using a 5” Prodigy and really like it. Original plan was to use it at work, but then I retired 🙂. I haven’t used it for any matches yet, and only have around 700rds through it, but so far it’s been GTG. I am running a SRO, and using 3.3grs of Sport Pistol under a 147 BB I am getting a 133 PF average. Only change I made was replacing the recoil spring with a DPM kit as it felt undersprung to me. It shoots really flat and stays on target, even with my meager shooting skills. 😂

  2. I believe I shot with Carter Jones at IPA pistol shoots at Pontiac in the 90s and early 2000s. You are right he was the nicest person I have ever met. I also bought bullets from him in the 80s I think his company was called Bull-X. High quality cast lead. RIP Carter.

  3. When I had my RPRR, due to the recommendation of a fellow NRL competitor, I replaced the barrel with a Shaw prefit. I was a little hesitant, but he was right the Shaw tightened the groups and eliminated the flyers. At that time there were only a couple prefits available for them though. And I used a Timney 2 stage trigger which was really nice.

I shot the rifle like that for several years in NRL22 matches and Outlaw field matches. When I bought my Vudoo I was gonna keep the Ruger for my grandson to shoot, but a buddy wanted to get into NRL with his son so I sold it. He still has it and competes with it.

  4. I too started with a Ruger RPR rimfire. I competed in NRL22 and Outlaw 22 matches for about a year. The Ruger shot well, but would throw occasional flyers. I upgraded the barrel, and the flyers were gone. Then upgraded the trigger, added some weight, an Arca rail, etc. I was able to finish top 3 pretty consistently, but began to feel the rifle was holding me back. I fell into a deal on a Vudoo, and set it up to match my PRS rifle. The rifle is no longer limiting, my skill however sometimes is 😉

Sorry for the rambling reply. The 22LR competitions are a blast, and you can compete on whatever level you want. You can go to have fun, you can go to win your class, or you can go to win overall. What you can’t do is buy ability. Decide what your goal is, decide what your budget is, and then practice a lot. As with most skills IMHO there aren’t really any shortcuts.

  5. I have used for years a Pro Chrono Digital, a Magneto Speed Sporter, and a V3. All have their pros and cons. I have the adapter for the V3 for my G34, and both on barrel and off barrel mount for the V3. I use the Pro Chrono for my shorter barrel revolvers the Magneto Speed won’t attach to. The optical chronos can be finicky with lighting conditions and the position of the sun relative to the sensors. But they also work with firearms the Magneto Speed won’t. If you have any specific questions I would be happy to answer them if I can.

  6. I run a 6 Creedmoor using 115gr DTAC at 3000fps. I just pulled my barrel at the end of season at 1500rds. It was still shooting less than 1 moa, (up from 1/3 moa) but I have a big match coming up and didn’t want to chance it. Running factory ammo (105 @ 2900) you should be able to get more life. Run the ammo hot or scorch the barrel and you will get less.

  7. I know this thread is a little older but anyone have anything to add? I just started trying out some Blue Bullet 160gr, 2.5gr Titegroup, mixed brass, 1.145OAL and got 797 avg with an SD of 10. It seems plenty accurate, and shoots really soft. Just want to make sure I am not overlooking anything.

  8. Thank you for your service First Sergeant. I was a 19D3H, first Armored Cav, then Light Cav, until I got too old and went IRR.

To the OP, if you would like to compare the optics, you don't live too far from me. I have MK4, Nightforce, and Trijicon scopes you can look thru, and compare the glass. They just won't be in the magnification range you are considering.

  9. I have a Nightforce 2.5x10 and can call my own shots at 600 yds on steel. I thought the claims were just hype until i bought one. You can get used NF scopes at great prices if you shop around and watch the ads.

Hitting steel at 600 is not anywhere in the realm of benchrest accuracy. We are talking about holding groups smaller than a golf ball at 600 yards. 10 rounds in 30 seconds. You aren't doing that with 10x @ 600 yards. You couldn't see a golf ball @ 600 with 10X.

@ 600 the cross hair line on a 10x NF scope is wider than the required groups. A bendhrest shooter can hit steel @ 600 while sleeping. Like I said 24 min. 36 to 42 preferable. Don't lead the OP astray with BS. You might as well just close your eyes at 600 with a 10X with the groups required to even slightly compete OR even just hit varmints. 10x is good to 300 tops for tight groups. For reference just hitting steel is not a tight group.

The Original Poster commented about Nightforce scopes, and my example of calling shots at 600 yards was to illustrate the optical clarity of the optics, not to sell him on the magnification. I have an old Bushnell spotting scope that has up to 45x, but is unusable in mirage due to poor optical quality at 600yds.

I'm not sure what the rest of your rant is all about, but your golf ball analogy is flawed. 10x at 600yds is the same as 60yds at 1x, and not only can I see a golf ball at 60yds, I can see the head of the bolt holding my steel plate at that distance, and use it as an aiming point for my Aimpoint.

I'm not sure if you are just having a bad day, dislike Nightforce, or if there is some other problem, but if you want to continue to be an ass towards me, why don't we take it to IM so that the OP's thread doesn't get any more off track.
