  1. After using a red dot scope for a year I chose to go to a low power traditional scope for use on a range where shots are never over 100yds but frequently at very small targets. My choice was a Weaver V3 1-3x22 variable.

  2. I have been looking for some other options and since this is my first AR I am not sure what height I am going to want to have the scope mounted.

I am sure there are other things I need to consider. So any input would be appreciated.

One other option is the PRI (Precision Reflex Inc.) extended mount. By switching rings, you can change height or ring diameter. I use mine with a Weaver V3 1-3x20.

  3. Ok, I'll go against the grain and say, look in your safe and shoot what you have first or borrow equipment to see if you even like 3-gunning before investing in mega equipment. Not all of us have the money to buy the best right away. Think of it like a starter home...one day you'll own that dream house and you'll appreciate it more when you know what you want. Get good with what you have and as you get better and grow, so will your equipment.

I agree. Shoot at least a few matches (or even a season) with what you have or with borrowed equipment. I know a fellow who bought some expensive gear to start with and found out later that 3gun was not his thing.

I have a fairly modest investment and have more fun than I paid for.

  4. I have a Bushnell 1.5-4.5x32 Banner Dusk & Dawn Rifle Scope, 1/4MOA, 67-33 FOV, 4"eye relief and 10.5oz. This is on my SA58 and has worked out very well.

On my AR180B I have a Nikon red dot which I may change to a Simmons ProDiamond 1.5-5x20 since the variable power on the .308 has worked so well.
