  1. Can someone clarify the laws for transporting firearms through Maryland? I've read them at the NRA's website, but I'm still unclear whether or not I can transport my "assault rifles", shotguns, and handguns through the state.

Federal law says you can transport under FOPA passing through Maryland. Maryland law says you cannot import a "prohibited" assault long gun. Since I am starting in Maryland with grandfathered rifles, I am not too worried. I would most assuredly encourage people from out of state not to fly through BWI, however. If you are driving, like I said, Fed law is on your side...but don't get pulled over. :)

And stow your carry before you hit the state line.

  2. As everyone at the match was aware, I had to leave. Am with my family in NC. Sandra Orvig is travelling and not able to post, as is the webmaster for the Rockcastle match website. Until then, here are the Pro results. I will post AM results once Sandra is able to find a place to get internet access on the road & email to me.

Thank You for everything you did for this Match & the sport you are a class act.

  3. I picked up a new barrel for my 1187 a while back fo $75

Where did you get an 1100 barrel for 75 bucks. i can't find them under 175ish. and for the price i might as well just buy a new gun.

i am thinking of using my buddies benelli with an 18.5 with choke tubes. i plan on patterning the mossberg with the 18.5 cyl next week out to about 40 yards.

nuke you are right it was about mossberg's and 1100's. wasn't sure what gun i wanted to shoot. if i can get the 1100 to something i want it to be then i am going to shoot that one. i just don't want to dump a whole bunch of money to then buy a new gun if/when i confirm that i like 3gun and have more money to spend on a new gun.

I got my Remington Tac 4 for about $700.00 it has a 22" barrel. It runs good & has never failed. I just put an

X-Rail on it for open Div.

  4. Covering the ports is more unsafe than anything the shim stock will blow off & mess you or somebody else up.

You could be right, I have only been running mine with the ports covered for a year or so. Hundereds of rounds of bird shot, some slugs, some buck, high brass.

Do you have some xamples of port covers blowing off?

    Test data maybe?

    David E.

No data just rather he be safe than sorry. But it seems you have tested it. It seems like there might be a market for a bolt on port cover.

  5. This will be for the pro am that is why I posted it here. Sorry for not mentioning it earlier. I am shooting in the am match. I know that the porting will put me in open. I read on another forum that you could cover the ports but I don't know if it is legal.

Would you rather run the 18.5 mossberg or a 30" rem 1100

Covering the ports is more unsafe than anything the shim stock will blow off & mess you or somebody else up. Use the 1100 with the 28" barrel. Having a few chokes is a must . IC for slugs & inside 15yrds. Improved Mod. to 30yrds. & full for anything longer

  6. I would like to see some slug targets added for at least one of the AM stages. Last year we didn't get to shoot any slugs. :(

Are you shooting AM again this year?

Yes, I am shooting AM again this year. Actually our whole squad from last year is shooting AM again -1 guy that is on the waiting list. I really like the sort of layed back down and dirty stages the AMs had last year. Our squad got along great and I can't wait to shoot with them again.

Not eveeryone! Greg and I are in on the pro side.

Doc~ You got me confused with somebody else?

Maybe. It wouldn't be the first time. :)

I hope there is some slug targets. If not I wasted 150 bucks on slugs to pactice with

  7. Any discussion of stage design is a bit premature at this point. We are planning a 26 rd shotgun stage with some tgts from a sporting clays trap but no trampoline. :D :D :D The stages will be posted a few weeks prior to the match.

Time to hit the sporting clays course. They hate people with shotguns shorter than 10 feet! :sight::devil:

They really hate us when our Remington tactical shotguns through a beaten on their Perazzi's. Why they gotta be haters.

  8. just a note, for some of you who do not get into the match, based on last year, it would worth driving 4 hours just to do all the side matches, shooting a CMMG 7" full auto piston gun $10 for 20 rounds, fn 50 rounds PS 90 full auto, cave shooting, shooting 50-1000 yards with pro spotters etc. you get the idea.

a day of go old family fun. and a chance for you to show the other half some fun they and you are missing.

Should we bring our own guns for the 1000 yrd shoot & what is a cave shoot? Sounds like more fun

  9. I noticed when reading the rules that rifle must be of a factory configuration for tac optics class except for an optic of course. Does this mean no forward grips? I ask because I have a Mugpul Angled forward grip on my LWRC and I'm absolutly in love with it. It definetly makes me a faster more stable shooter. So if they arent allowed in the competition then I'm outta luck.

Also a second question... Can shotguns have a side sadle mount for tactical providing it was an after market upgrade? I need to stop practicing with it if its not allowed.

Only Black cup holders are allowed on your AR

  10. I ran some 3N38 on Sunday

    STI Match Master 4.15 barrel

    Hornady 125gr HAP bullet

    Starline case

9.2 gr got me a PF of 166 to 168

9.3 gr put me a PF of 171 to 172.8

The recoil is alot nicer than Auto Comp & my cases are not bulged as much

It was cold & raining. The powder is compressed & there is only about .080 from the powder to the top of the case. You will get podwer splash if you move to fast on a Dillon press

  11. I put 7.0 to 7.5 grs. of Auto Comp in new Starline cases, using Hornady HAP bullets OAL 1.170 out of a New MatchMaster. No cases split but they all are junk after one firing. I started using 9.3grs. of 3N38 & now most cases can be reloaded. These are the only 2 powders I have tried so far.

  12. Yep it's packed pretty good. Theres about an .80 of an inch from the powder to the top of the case. My OAL varies between 1.169 to 1.173. If I go to fast I get some powder splash from a Dillon 650 so slow is good.

...a 19mm case is only 0.74 inches long.....

Good eye .080 from the top. Bad info causes Bad Accidents. I'm Sorry.
