  1. Great data, Darrell. That took some time & effort!

I just got a batch of the 125s, too. I started with 4.1 gr. of TG at 1.090 COL. I didn't chrono them but the grouping was horrible with some keyholes. I backed off to 4.0 gr. and 1.125" and they were better. Looking at Darrell's data, I think I'll drop another 0.1 gr and make them a little longer. Other than that, I've had very little smoke with the TG and the bore (stock Glock) is staying very clean. They do have a funny smell, though. Kind of like a cutoff wheel for an angle grinder.

  2. not to get off all the cool photos , but looks like Jerry did it again,

According to the scores from last night, Matt Griffin has 815.8272 points after shooting stages 7-18. Jerry has 864.2944 points after shooting stages 7-18 and 3.

And Jerry scored 54.6608 points on stage 3.

...so today should be an interesting day.

That's what it looks like. Is it odd that Jerry has been scored for stage 3 when he's in the same squad as Matt, Mike, et al? Matt made a comment that the first day was a mess but I haven't had a chance to get the details.

  3. Just got home from the range. I really worked hard on watching the front sight. It seems to be helping. I think this is something that is going to take a long time to master.

It may take a while but keep the practice up. I had a first-shot flinch when shooting at the range that eventually went away after about 5,000 rounds. Watching for the front sight to rise is also excellent advice.

  4. I would love to insert a pic. I am a cherry at this blogging stuff so I am lost as to how to embed a pic and I dont have any that I can attach from a URL. The classified add would read something like this though.

    FOR SALE OR TRADE:

Early 80's model gently used low maintenance trophy wife. Cash offers welcome or consider trading for a ready to go progessive reloading station.

WHAT I WOULD LEAVE OUT OF THE ADD:

She is as frugle as an eighty (80) year old retired coal miner. In order to spend money on guns and ammo I have to put a half hour presentation together as to how we will get a return on investment in less than three years. (I will admit I have an addiction....I have a difficult time leaving a beautiful 1911 laying in a display case. I am sure there are support groups out there!!!)

Early 80's? I'll trade you a late 60's classic model. My wife has three binders of coupons organized by category and expiration date so I'm already used to doing presentations to get to buy "useless" things. :goof:

  5. Do you guys have giant cave man hands or what? I can't figure out how you guys get your hands that close to the slide. I must have little girly mitts.

I have pretty big hands and the only time I've been slide-bitten by my 34 is when I was resting it to zero my sights.

  6. John, if you aren't opposed to shooting lead, I've shot 10,000 rounds of the CCI Blazer with no issues...Not the bulk stuff, but the individually boxed 50 round stuff....The bulf stuff, I've had a few issues with...

Suprising, Midway has Mini Mags cheaper than the Standard velocity stuff....In fact, I'm seeing many stores that have the mini mags cheaper...

And cheaper than dirt is, well, cheaper than dirt....Lowest I've seen on standard velocity...

I got a bad box of the bulk Blazer (say that five times, fast). I don't know if the lead was too soft or the coating was bad but they would heavily foul the barrel after 50 or so rounds. This happened on two different pistols.

  7. Oh about 6 months back I started a thread here complaining that no one else makes a four banger turbo diesel except for VW.

I've been jonesing for one since I first heard that people are getting a for real 45 to 50 mpg.

Which would be better than the 13 to 15 mpg that my F150 gets.

In that other thread I probably also mentioned a guy

I met at a party who makes his own biodisel for just 62 cents a gallon.

Kyle, have tried Craig's list yet?

Mazda is coming out with a newly designed Diesel in the spring of 2012. It should have around 170 hp and 300 lb/ft of torque, along with mid 40's highway. I know it will be offered in the Mazda 3 but I'm not sure about other models. There's a good chance it will be my next car.

  8. I break the fuzzy part of a Q-tip off and jam the paper stick down into the baseplate through the pin hole. The Q-tip stays in there and you don't have to worry about the pin popping back out. This leaves both hands free to get a good grip when sliding the plate off. When you slide the plate off (I use the edge of a piece of wood), the paper stick will easily bend or break if it gets in the way.

  9. Sounds like a good recovery. It does get a little irritating when there are only one or two people working to reset a stage, especially on a hot summer day. I was at a match a while back and there was a dude that would come out after a stage was shot and hunt for brass instead of helping reset. :angry2:

  10. I had a great time at the match. It ran very smoothly and the ROs and match officials were first class.

I definitely got some much needed stage planning experience at this match. I'll just say that "Hide and Seek" lived up to its name.

Many thanks to all those that put it together and volunteered their time.

edit: Also thanks to Matt for the coaching. I would be lost in a barrel on stage 9 if not for his advice.

  11. Just got back from walking the stages. Lots of decisions for SS, L-10, and Revolver. There aren't many "start at the left and work your way across" stages.

FWIW, the diagrams posted on the website do a fine job of giving a general idea of how the stages actually look, but there are several that look completely different on the ground than they did on paper!

    BB

Looks like some good stages for production, too.

I wonder if using a GPS would violate a rule?

Heading out in a couple of hours. The forecast is looking better but I'm still bringing rain gear.

  12. When I first got my Dillon, I used RCBS-level force to seat the primers. This resulted in the the case rim shearing off in the shellplate and the primer seated about 1mm below flush. No kaboom but I always wear eye protection when reloading.

  13. The easiest way to get the proper OAL for any load/bullet is to take the barrel (out of gun) and drop a loaded round into the chamber, if it goes in freely and stops with the base of the case even with the barrel hood (or whatever passes for a barrel hood on whatever gun you are checking) then that is the correct OAL for that load/bullet in that particular gun.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but most auto cartridges headspace on the mouth of the case and would stop at the same point in the barrel until the COL is long enough for the bullet to start engaging the rifling. This means that dangerously short COLs would still drop to the same depth in the chamber as safe ones.

  14. -1 on CCI primers in 9mm. They're hard to seat and prone to light strikes if you don't get them in far enough. I've had good results with Winchester primers. I'm loading 124 Gr. FMJs over TG in a G34 and I'm pretty happy with the recoil feel.

  15. It must have been the weather this weekend. I "finished" a stage and had that feeling that I was forgetting something. When the RO gave me the "*IF* you are finished" command I realized that I had not shot the two swingers that were clearly waving 15 yards directly in front of me.
