I was thinking they help you check alignment. You want to align the guns bore with your line of sight to the target.

I went to look up the word align and I especially like the second definition.

Verb:

1. Place or arrange (things) in a straight line.
   
2. Put (things) into correct relative positions.
   

The sights are indicators to tell you if you have the two things in correct relative positions.

For what it is worth; a few local clubs have started banning SERPA holsters from IDPA shoots. The reason given to me was AD's and that other bigger matches were banning them, so our club will be doing so for consistency.

Southeast Ohio?! Where, in southeast Ohio. I B in Malta-McConnelsville. I shoot USPSA the first Saturday of every month at Circleville, and the third Sunday at Rayners Range, Blue Rock.

Try USPSA once and you will B hooked!

Hello everyone,

I have been learning a LOT from this site already as a lurker, figured it was time to introduce myself. I've been shooting local three gun matches a little over a year now "for fun". This May I shot at the Midwest 3-Gun shoot in Missouri and really caught the bug:) Now I'm trying to learn everything I can and really practice / train towards improving my shooting. Any tips or advice for a new shooter is much appreciated!

I would suggest checking out Clinton County Farmers and Sportsmen association. The name is a little misleading. It is located southeast of Dayton just south of Wilmington OH. They have 3-gun shoots the 4th Sunday of every month (even in the winter). Great group of guys there. Many of them will be traveling out to Missouri for the Midwest 3-gun championships in May. Also have IDPA shoots 1st Sunday of the month. Great practice sessions.
