  1. normally you can get Zeros in Aussie but maybe they are affected by the tight supplies?

you should be able to get some reloading done easily enough there especially for practice - what range cor club are you shooting at?

you can take 5kg of ammo is that enough for a match or if you cant get another in aussie to supply the projectiles take your own and have them reloaded there

ive found plenty of aussies will help - try talking to the match organisers

  2. metallic sights what a topic, to many things for a 1 stop answer

i think your own eyes make a big diffidence, so many people font have perfect sight and contacts or glasses setup make a real difference, so you need to understand whats effecting you, im lucky i have great eyes but i know alot who get their sight picture buggered up between standing and prone, strong sun or sun direction etc...

also arm length ive really long arms so tweaking the rear sight gap & font sight width to give you the perfect ratio - light blade light

and dominant eye when shooting prone and gun height prone...alot to sort out but these things make you so much more consistent

all that aside ive found for me a fiber helps me find and track the front sight, but i dont use it in the shooting sight picture im focusing on the bade being crisp esp at the long distances, saying that im not a top scoring metallic shooter yet so im still putting this into practice

  3. i was hoping to get confirmations after we have had a few years for production at the cup now im assuming this it nailed down

we're planning on being at next years cup so wanted to get the gear legal

    686 6" FSF in production

planning of using a bladetech blackice - i'd assumed these are legal? do they cover enough of the cylinder [ half of it yea?]

    1. Dropped and Offset holsters in Production class? being used or not allowed?

    2. removing of the Single action notch in my revolver? really req to be in that division ?

i'm working on what guys have been saying is being used and photos i can see people using

  4. i just got back from Johns funeral, a full church of people that dearly miss him

many people spoke, all with great respect and love for him, Hud spoke so well and so did Lynn especially how much they enjoyed the freinds they made in the US.

johns mother also told of a naughty little boy and the mischeif he caused (if you can imagine it).

Karl your dad spoke really well for you, our fellings go out to you NZers who couldnt be there, richard, grant & helen and the many of friends John had in nz, ken taps letter was really appreacated.

You all would have been so proud to see freinds come from all over NZ to pay john our repsect. guys from whangarei hamilton thames.

we'll miss you john but never be able to forget

  5. we just finished our kiwi cup in hamilton this weekend, it was a real pleasure to see john there, bigger pleasure to see him shooting with us too. just looks a little older (dont we all!!)

plenty of chattn about old times, starnge how time can past so quick but things only seem like yesterday.

well was good to see him again

  6. my home club was at auckland when i first grapped pistol and it was a pleasure to have johns company over many years, he was certainly a legend in NZ deer shooting and on the pistol range, plenty of friends and respect, a straight talker for sure....

ive missed his company for many years since he moved to the states but when i visited it wasnt a surpise to see the friends & good life he had in the states

be i big loss to so many

  7. phil a lot of people would like to have seen at least some acknowledgement if not representation on the AP committee

but i can't see it happening without some major change in people or their views

i think very soon you'll see a separate oganisation established on the grounds of a general assembly who in it well the icase thread shows a lot are more than interested

    Brentm

  8. im very disappointed that the Action pistol/Bianchi Cup organisers dont see international shooters as anything other than trouble, more effort and expensive....

this is quite the opposite of US shooters ive met who genuinely seem pleased to have visitors come.

i've seen this personally at the 2003 cup, with correspondence to the AP committee and now had reports from those returning from this years cup

Well you only get the cold shoulder so many times, only get told so many times your input doesnt count, i would have thought we where stronger as a international group rather than separate countries

less NZers want to come back, im guessing the aussies will be thinking that too...you know more than 1/3 of shooters at the cup in 03 where internationals, somethings gona give soon and who's going to loose.

Please positive suggestions/feedback on where we should be heading with this...

  9. the guys are right, firm stance up top, firm grip

minor loads with slab sided defintely settles back down on target when your not in a hurry like in Action

ive found when youre in a rush you do need to aid that sight picture recover with a little force especially if youve got a std barrel without much weight.

ive always griped as high as possible, come to think of it you would have trouble getting the thing outa my hands if you pulled

you should dry fire alot to get co-ordinated with trigger lenght/pull speed, i think the revolver is more about trigger than anything else, youve a long pull time to get off/on target use it to your advantage

  10. i think you need to consider the question is how to involve more shooters....not how to get more

i mean in nz we are trying to up the number of shooters in AP matches too i think you need to have alot of clubs/ranges run events, even small events with 3 or four AP matches, at the least all you need is a range.

the point is ispc does well because matches are run at clubs, alota clubs we need to get more matches run at more clubs then those there will say 'hey lets have a change today' bang new AP shooter, we dont need to expect shooters to suddenly be shooting AP every week but if once or twice a month they would probably feel comfortable shooting at a larger match...

i think to acheive this those of us currently shooting AP need to get to other clubs that dont and run a match there...say have a friend at a club not shooting AP get him/her to help set one up

  11. First off, wings, and the use of wrap-around barricade techniques, are definitely on the chopping block to be phased in over the next couple of years.

    grant

so when do we get the new rules? same time frame as last years changes?

    bugger why leave us waiting

    brentm

  12. revolvers can compete in metallic with autos shot for shot

and they could compete in open until the prone change, it believe its a huge lost...

single stackers maybe now receive the same treatment

    brentm

  13. the guys orchestrating rule changes really havent considered how easy it is to alienate those very shooters who currently form the backbone of AP purely by outdating or ruling out current equipment...

i shot a unlimited revolver in AP for ten years and had many successes but more standing so i decided to change to an auto...

im pissed now cos i feel i just wasted thousands - why?

    it a single stack...it has a shroud....

if id know this was the intent to progressively loose the 'gear' id have spent the money on something more versatile

the mover base is next....bugger i go one of those too!!

waste waste waste i choose gear that will last me years - now i got one season

i bet these guys say lets get lots of new shooters ...maybe they need to think gee how do we keep the one we got now & get more ....

    Brentm

  14. rule changes yes but...

    changes to date....NO

changing prone shooting was the wrong move, i think restricting some distances say prone only from 25y would have provided enough of a change...without so dramatic results.

    changing metallic sights was right

i think a first step would have been to loose the barricade wings - straight away lower scores...but look at all the pistols who could have competed.....tons!

i still think AP is difficult because of the closeness of scoring increasing self pressure of failure/success than the difficultly of the shooting...but the rules reduce that

    some of my thoughts...Brentm

  15. :o man oh man im getting a sinking feeling...AP going down.

shooters around the world would agree changes to the rules to improve this match - but thats the crunch....improve for who?

it seems to me shooters and the NRA rules comittee have a different option as to what is needed to improve this match. are they just after more people period? or do they see these changes as actually improving the shooting test these four matches provide?

the comittee says lets improve the match by changing dramatically the very things that make AP a match unlike any other...its not ipsc, pins, steel etc

shooting prone slow & fast where else was it done? now its lost!

shooting a barracade hold? going to be lost...

mover bases next for sure...dots, comps? (bugger think of the money spent and now thrown away)

AP unlimited is like indi-cars, like formula 1 the top of the heap- let all the inovations be used is some match. to be honest im all for letting more pistols shoot this match but im not convinced about losing these aspects of AP.

well we as shooters now need to ask ourselves do we like where this comittee is taking us...

  16. Phil i'll check with Ian L but your should have no problem with Metallic Sight now that was the idea behind simplifying the rules for 'stock gun'

Thing is in NZ like Aussie we tend to shoot AP matches all year round and have ranges dedicated to the 4 bianchi cup matches, we tend to use the other 8 matches as side matches at the main event....i little diff than the US where (correct me) most ranges dont have dedicated gear like the chapman range and the mover event isnt shot as much...

shooting unlimited is like any top end sport you try to push the boundaries with gear (happens in ipsc too) it you'll find though most regular AP shooters shoot both stock and unlimited often now cos we love shooting (i shoot with 686+ stock & 686 unlimited, baer 38super unlimited & stock 45 )

Personally if i had more time id shoot more disciplines, i do believe AP matches are exellent to up skill shooters and to maintain competent shooters skills.

    HA 5cents worth there

  17. he big dave any chance you can let us know how the oither two kiwis are doing....karl piper and harry (enrico) hoover, harry placed top int. and top ten last year....hanging out to see

never did see any scores from winamac? howd it go

ta brent hanging around down under

  18. i agree, you'll have plenty of support on this one!

we run basically this system in NZ all the time, with very similar rules...and for the same reasons.

even for local events over one or two days it still works, we've run it at nationals too.

we all get more shooting, less standing around, with different guns (great) i get to play with my 686+ moonclipped just for fun and still play for keeps in open class.

as you suggested, we've found as long as you shoot your chosen class first its no advantage, actaully it can be a disavantage if you dont handle a busy day too well.

wer'e actaully planning a Stock Nationals this year too!! hoping to get some ipsc stock shooters coming to play, HA.

  19. not sure about where a 40cal will come from as not any 'distributer' in nz

though i know of one selling the govt. model.

they did come from the Australian distr. but not now in anything above 38cal since their law change.

will have to find out, the Aussie guy did have bull barrel as ipsc option
