  1. This thread is interesting because I have been focusing very hard on the el presidente qualifier in my practice lately. I have so much trouble getting my first shot off quickly. Probably one of the main reasons that i cant break into the 5s. The information here is nice but it would be better to get the opinion of a pro shooter who is winning today and not 10 years ago. Someone like Ben Stoeger. This way we could compare the differences. Does he normally chime into threads like this?

    Thanks guys,

  2. Thanks for the help guys on becoming a member. I will sign up ASAP. I saw that Area 8 is only a few weeks away. I am taking some of my students who excelled academically last year on a field trip camping. Most of the girls are starting high school this fall so it can be a pretty hectic trip. I am not allowing them to bring cell phones for obvious reasons. It will be a week full of camping, canoeing, and shooting 22 rifles.

Anyways, I am not just gauging myself from you tube. I set up the qualifier el presidente that I found online. I can shoot that qualifier event consistently around 6 seconds flat minus 1 or 2 C zones with my beretta 92f. I looked it up online and this is around A-M class. Did I calculate something wrong? I am going to keep practicing this event along with using the Ben Stoeger dry fire routine every night. You mentioned Ben's name as being one of the guys who excelled quickl in this sporty. After watching his videos, our shooting styles are similar and I also shoot a beretta. There is something positive to say about the beretta handguns. I will keep you guys posted. Any suggestions on other events to shoot?

BTW, what do you guys shoot the el presidente qualifier in? How many minus zones?

  4. I am looking for some input on the possible causes of a fractured lock block lug on a Beretta 92FS. This pistol is about 2-3 years old( It is used in weekly IDPA matches.) with about 10,000 rounds of mostly factory standard pressure ammo with mabe a few hundred factory +p rounds and never any +p+ or NATO rounds. I know 10,000 seems to be alot of rounds and have had part breakages with other pistol models with fewer rounds but I am curious as to any conditions ,other than just wear, that may be contributing to lug breakage.

Another question that I would like to throw in concerns replacing the broken lock block. I can get a block from Beretta with no problems but I am concerned with mechanical complications that I should watch for when installing a new unworn part into a worn mechinism.

Any input on this matter will be appreciated.

    Thanks !!

Those darn lock-blocks can go out at any time. I got a hold of a few spares from a ex marine who use to work a booth at my local gun show. I could beat his pricing, free. Lol I have around 45,000 rds through my beretta and have gone through 4 or 5 lock-blocks. I have learned to fit them into the gun myself. I could help you replace it if you are in the Chicago or Virgina area. Let me know.

    Sincerely,

  5. I recently read about 20 round magazines for Beretta 92 variants. Has anyone tried them yet? That might be a good combo for outlaw 3 gun matches.

I have a friend who works at a machine shop. He made a 35rd Beretta mag by fitting three bodies together. He used some kind of spring which he was able to purchase from an industrial co. He then fitted the follower on. It looked kind of funky sticking out of the gun but beat reloading 10rd mags all the time. The best part about this was that it was cheaper then buying the 20 rounders that they sell and it obviously holds more.

    Best regards,

    Jman^2

  6. Although nowhere near as good a shooter as Ben, I made GM in about 8 months with Beretta.

The gun is great, as long as it fits your hands, and don't mind being "that guy shooting the Beretta."

Holy crap! There are 2 of us!

I love my Beretta! There are soon to be three of us! ;)

Congrats at Area 3. I just saw the results on the IPSC homepage. You dominated production category!

    Your friend,

  7. Hey Phil,

I would try and talk with some of your military buddies and have them bring some home from the base. That is how I got all of my beretta mags. If that doesn't work, go to the gun show and try to find some that fit your gun from the mixed mag baskets. Those are the cheapest ways to get mags. I never buy them new!

    Your bud,

    Jman^2

  8. If you want cheap do what I did, go to the local gun show and pick up a universal holster that fits on most all belts. Use a belt that you probably already own. Talk to a buddy whose got some XD pouches with his new gun. Put that all together and you have a rig. This is what I am going to do with my beretta. The xd and beretta mags are the same. That's how you save money.

    Take care,

    Jman

  9. Hey everyone!

I am am new to this forum. I have a lot of gun experience but have never shot a USPSA competition before. Which one should I sign up for this year? I am living in the Virginia area now and am eager to get back on the range. Every night I dry fire and watch USPSA videos on YouTube. I also need a classification. Judging by what I have seen, I am probably an A or Master class shooter. Any help that you guys could give me to get a classification and sign up for an USPSA match would be very much appreciated. I can't wait to get out their and prove myself!

    Your friend and fellow shooter,

    JM

  10. I am pleased to announce that I am holding a Competition Pistol class on September 18th and 19th. This curriculum for the class will be as follows:

    Accuracy

    Grip/Stance

    Shot Calling

USPSA Techniques (this will consist mostly of specialized movement techniques)

    Stage Breakdown/Analysis

    Practice Tips and Techniques

+ anything people request to be added

The format of the class will consist of one day of intensive work on technique. The next day will consist of a multi stage mock match. The stages will be such that the students will go through each just like a match, but then we will revisit each stage and analyze the performance of each student.

This class will be held at Holmen Rod and Gun Club in Holmen Wisconsin. It will start at 9am and go until about 5 pm on both days.

Ronnie Casper will be assisting with the class and range setup.

The cost is $250, with a limit of 12 students. 8 Registered students is the minimum to hold the class.

Estimated Round Count will be 750 for the first day and about 500 for the second day.

Contact Lori@casperracing.com to register. She can fill you in on the cancellation policy and other details.

    Hey Benji,

I saw you on the Top Shot show on the discovery channel! You are awesome with a handgun! I have been seeing you're videos and blogs online. We have something in common. I am a teacher too. Not guns though, but 8th grade science at an all girls school. Yea, I know. I'm a lucky guy! Lol. Well anyways, can anyone sign up for this class or do you have to be a member of USPSA? I am going to sign up soon at a local club but for right now I have been trying out your dry fire program. I shot handguns a lot in JROTC, so I'm not a beginner. Is this a beginner or advanced class because I need the latter.

Thanks in advance! As you can see, you are the reason I signed up for this forum and have started shooting again. Guys like you bring a positive light on the shooting sport. Talk to you soon.

    Take care,

    Jimmy
