  1. I started shooting USPSA when I was 65 and now I am 71. I walk about three miles at a fast pace for cardio, at least 4 days a week. I do light weights just to keep my muscles toned.

I am a B class in Production (A-63252). I have made 1/3 size targets and I have them hanging all over my basement, and I dry fire at least 3 times a week for 30 minutes plus. When you dry fire practice call every shot. Take a look at Ben Stoeger book on Dry Fire Practice.

  2. Just now looking these up. I am going to set up a range in my basement to practice dry fire. I have been shooting about 5 years and have practiced all I can.

I am over the hill now (70 years) and I need to practice everyday to just stay where I am. Maby I can improve and win my class at one of the area matches.

I plan on shooting untill my friends tell me it is time to give it up, and the good thing about this, they will do just that, and I will.

  3. This was a great match, had alot of fun with friends and family. My wife and I spent some time with Mr.& Mrs. Barrett, and Allie at breakfast Saturday morning. I didn't get to see her shoot but it was great she won. Allie if you read this you know who we are and we are rooting for you. Don't burn yourself out and keep your priorities straight. And above all listen to your mom and dad.

  4. We started using plastic barrels several years back at out indoor range. We cut the front and back out to fit the steal. We cut walls out of other barrels to re-inforced the wall of the barrels we are using for the steal. The set we have now have been in use for about nine to ten months. We also use these to activate other moving targets. They work great.

  5. Ran this about a week ago. Keep in mind I am 69 years, been shooting about 4 years, started with a 45acp then switched to Production this year, class B. Here are my results.

    A 34

    B/C 13

    D 2

    Time: 52.72 Subtotal 56.52

  6. I am expermenting with the S&B. I have reloaded about 2000 once fired and am on the second time for the reload. Haven't had any problems so far.

I have found alot of GFL brass that is cracked as of late. I get my brass for an indoor range and pretty sure it is 90% once fired.

I don't know what is going on with this brass. Haven't had and problems with Federal. My pick would be Winchester.

  7. Just a couple of thought on digital scales. First, you have to have a good solid table to put it on. No air blowing around to disturb the scale. A good piece of granite will help. If you have a fan you will need to enclose the scale. Brian has a digital scale that is German made with a life time warranty. This scale can be leveled which is very important. So if you want to do it right the first time, to me this would be the way to go.

  8. I don't wear contact, but do wear blended bifocals. My eye doctor had me bring my gun into the office and he worked with me until we had a set of lenses that worked very well. The dominant eye for front sight, left eye distance, and a small set of bifocals in the bottom for reading. I don't see the holes in the target past say 10 yards, but I depend on my sight picture to tell me where my hits are. My lenses are amber color. I am 68 been shooting USPSA for about three years now and this works great for me.

  9. Don't know if this will help. But when I was using 231, I was using a 200gr LSWC over 5.6 grains which would give me a power factor of 170. Try www.hodgdon.com for your data.

After you try the 231 for about 300 straight rounds, I would suggest you try some regular Clays and pay attention to the recoil and the cleanness of the gun.

  10. Welcome to the Forum. I am from Kearney, MO. and it has been a bad winter. Thinking about selling out and moving somewhere that is warmer. What are taxes like in FL?

  11. Don't load 9mm

but in 45acp a 200gr lswc with 4.2/4.3gr of clays will get you major. A nice load, put in a 16pound recoil spring

Fortyfiveshooter is right on with 200gr lswc. Use regular clays. Unique powder you get alot of smoke. I have found that 231 is

really dirty. I even had it on my arms and face after shooting. I also use Missouri Bullets.

  12. Wait untill you get old enough to have those senior moments. Like when you fill the primer tube, and you put the rod in for the low primer sensor and the flap is back. I have crushed a couple primers and nothing has happen yet, but if you do I would say your heart will race a little. Be sure you wear your safety glasses.

  13. I have a CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow, by Angus. Just got it in January. I have the adjustable sight with the fiber optic front. My eyes are not what they us to be. I have put about 1000 rounds through this gun and love it. The trigger is sweet. I really like the sights on the CZ, I pick it up really quick. I don't think you can go wrong with the CZ. I also shoot a Kimber 45, in limited 10, and single stack. One Kimber has the adjustable rear with a fiber optic on the front. The other Kimber is fixed sights, all black and I have to say it is right on, but I don't pick it up as quick.

  14. Well join the Old Fart club. I started about 2 years back. Started shooting L-10 and single stack with the 45 acp. Just started shooting 9mm in production with a CZ Shadow. As long as I can smell that gun powder burning I am happy. If there is anything I can help you with let know. I hope you are reloading that is the only way to go.

  15. Hay CHA-LEE,

I had problems with my lower back for about 5 years. I went to Chriopractors, had Epridual Injections, Physical Thearpy the hole nine yards. But seem like I would always do some little something that would screw it up again, just little things. Well to make a long story short, we were moving something and I stooped down to go under a conveyor, went to my knees and could not get up. L5 was ruptured on the right side and L4 was bulging on the left side. It has been at least 20 years ago, and I must say that I am glad I had it done. One thing thought, I had physical thearpy for 6 weeks, 5 day a week, 8 hours a day, and they know what they were doing. I have very little scar tissue. One thing, if you smoke (STOP). Smoking will restrict the blood flow to the injured area, and it even worse in the lower back. If you have surgery (GIVE IT TIME TO HEAL). Best of luck.

  16. Go with the one Brian has that has the life time warranty. It has a bubble so you can level the scale. I have worked with scales alot and this is important. I have a Dillon, I have on a small granite block that has been leveled. ONE caution about digital scales you MUST have a good solid work bench to put it on, and no FANS blowing air around. This will blow your mind.

  17. I have spent a bunch of time reading this the last few days and after this morning, I think I may be more confused than before...

I have a stock M&P9 with 5" barrel. My reloading equipment is all Dillon (550B). I am wanting to shoot USPSA/IPSC Production (minor).

I am trying to figure out where to start the whole endevor but I need to keep prices down because my wife is ready to kill me because I bought a 550B with all the fixin's for $500 plus I had to buy a 9mm conversion kit, and carbide die set. (Apparently she thinks this is just another hobby.) So now we are at $650 with the scale, tumbler, 2 quick changes. Anyway, on to my questions which are numbered and separate for ease of reading and answering.

    1. Bullets - I'm looking at 124/125 or 147 grain bullets. The best prices I've seen are at natchezss.com with the Rainier Ballistics. I keep hearing about Montana Gold but they are more expensive unless I can find a cheaper price. Are the Rainier Ballistics crap? Or do they shoot well? And do they load well in a 550B (Their website recommends a Lee Factory Crimp die but I bought the Dillon)?

***Bullet questions - Weight, Brand, Shape, Place to purchase (all based on USPSA/IPSC useage, accuracy, and price).

    2. Primer - I'm starting to think that this is a non issue. Buy CCI or Federal; the need for a soft contact is not a problem with a semiauto. Correct?

    3. Powder - I've been told to look at Hodgdon TiteGroup, Winchester 231, and Alliant Power Pistol. Would you recommend one of these or something else? And through my reading this morning, I want a fast burning powder for less recoil feel. I can look up the burn rates of these but I would appreciate recommendations.

    4. Brass - I have a bunch of Federal brass that I've shot but I want to buy more. I would like to load 500 to 1000 at a time so I need more brass. Can I load ammo with the military primer crimp on it or do I need to look elsewhere? Any thoughts on cheap brass (once fired).

I hope I've covered all the info I've been searching for. And I'm sorry if anyone is p.o.'ed because I should have searched first (I have but didn't get all the understanding I needed).

    Thanks again,

    Warren.

    Hello Warren,

I just started shooting production with a CZ75 SP 01 Shadow. I am shooting Montana Gold 115 & 124 grain JHP. I am going to shoot the 115 grain, over 4.2 grains of TiteGroup, with Federal or Winchester primers. This gives me a 130 power factor. I have a 550B also.

The military brass you will have to swage the primer pocket before you can get another primer in. As for as more brass go to my profile and PM me or send an E-Mail and I can fix you up with once fired, cleaned & polished cheap brass.
