We had 2 guys that regularly shot a .45acp 1911 at our matches and at least one did exceptionally well with it. It's all in what you are good with and practice with.

Sound of Freedom still does the Thursday afternoon/evening bullseye matches.

There is also the COPS range near Rolla. They shoot USPSA on the first Sunday I believe and steel challenge on the 3rd Saturday. At Billings we shoot USPSA the 3rd Saturday. We are also starting IDPA I believe in April. Here is where all of the match dates will be posted. http://springfieldbenchrestrifleclub.org/matchdatesrulesandformats.html
All 3 clubs mentioned have Facebook pages if you are on there. Updates are usually posted about matches.

information?
It's a Colt 1911 with a Clark barrel and comp in .38 super. It also has a Protocol design shroud with stick shift, barricade wings, and prone pad. I'd like to get $1900 for it.

No responses? I'm following this as well.

I just find something to prop them on like shelves or window sills or whatever. I do most of my dry fire in the garage and I've glued magnets to the back of about 20+ targets and shuffle them around on the garage wall.
That would work really well if you painted the walls with magnetic paint.

What did you do to attach to the polymer slide? Is it tapped or through bolted?

Was this something that the local MD had to run these exact stages so you could send your scores in? Or was it done as a side match after the main match. I think it sounds like a fun thing to do, just wondering how it was done.

I have the same question on places to list an open gun. I have been on here for years but I can't use the classifieds yet. I checked gun broker and couldn't find anything similar in all of my searches.
Our local club has discontinued our NRA matches so I might as well sell my gun and invest in a quality scope.

I like getting a chance to shoot my daily carry gun (XDs .45). It doesn't always make me feel good about my ability with it but I get some trigger time on it. I usually shoot it at almost every match and especially at Berryville since you can shoot 1 gun in the morning and one in the afternoon.

I use the Chip McCormick Shooting Star mags in my 38 super with a prone pad.

I was just an ultrasound in my mom's belly during that match, and will probably shoot my last AP match tomorrow as it is going away next year at our range. I don't really have an interest in driving several hours to shoot AP when I can shoot other disciplines 30 min. from home. Maybe when the kids are grown.

Order a cheap one from Amazon and have it shipped to your hotel?

We shot out to 800 yards on Saturday and I didn't have any trouble making out the IPSC sized target with a 3" orange dot with my 6-18. I can't answer your other questions, I'm not familiar with the Vipers, mine is a Leupold.

I just purchased an ADL from Academy for $379. Then you can get the Magpul hunter 700 for $250 and the detachable magazine and kit for $40-$50.

Thanks for the idea about my routine. I started double checking my chamber to make sure I was loaded. I need to think of an easy to remember acronym for all the steps I need to take before I am ready.
Maybe SAM?

I practiced with the Stick Shift yesterday. I think it will be a bit before I use the settings in a match. I kept forgetting to move the lever for the direction of travel.
-
I ran 100+ rounds through it yesterday without a single problem. Thanks everyone for your help.

I have the Tac FS model and I really like it. I've shot IDPA, NRA action pistol and USPSA with it. It has been a great gun. The only problem I have had was me short stroking the trigger.

I test fired a few rounds tonight with the shock buff removed and more oil on it. It didn't have a hiccup in slow fire. I will be at the range this weekend and will try it some more.

At our local range you get classified on your first match. I'll usually receive a card in a month or 2, you'll receive a new classification for every class you shoot in. I can't remember how many times you have to shoot a higher classification before they move you up.

You say this gun is "new to you". Does that mean that 1911s are new to you or just this one?
I have to ask, but did it run without failure before you took it apart for cleaning?
I'm just looking for a clue because I can't tell much from the pics.
This is my second 1911. It ran fine before I took it apart and after it worked for a while. There was a few bad rounds before (very sporadic) but we thought it was due to the load not being dialed in just right or a loose grip.
You cant run a 1911 to wet with lube. What caliber is the gun ?
It is a .38 super. And I probably had it under lubed. I didn't want it to have so much lube that it would attract too much dirt inside.

Remove shock buff, they get pounded and spread slowing the slide. Head on the guide rod looks beat up also.
Either clean it up or replace. 1911's like oil, is this one dry? I like Mobil one 5w20 but use liberal amounts on the inside of the slide
and rails. Look at the disconnector and the track it rides against the inside of the slide,
Bob, Should I replace the shock buff or are you saying get rid of it? It doesn't have much oil on it. There was a fair bit on it when I bought it but I cleaned it good but I didn't put as much back on it. Does it take a special guide rod with the comp setup? I know it has to have the hole to slide the pin in for takedown.

Take the barrel and comp out of the slide and check it for travel on the frame. If it is moving freely then it is in the barrel and comp. After installing the barrel and comp back into the gun and re assembling the gun, can you rack it smoothly , or does it bind ? It can bind as it heats up. Does it shoot a some rounds fine then binds up ? If it is smooth, then you may be over sprung or under powered on your ammo. Is the gun series 80 internals ? 10 lb spring should be the heaviest that you run. Make sure the link is not broken also and that your ejector is tight. A 17lb hammer spring may help also. Many variables to check. Welcome to open !!!
It does it from the first round now. When it started it would do it every few rounds. Now it is every round from the first of the day. The slide seems to move freely. I will ask the previous owner what the spring weight is. It is a series 70 gun.

It was several things. Low turn out and the corner of the mover on the neighbors property. The new president has always had something against that mover and found an excuse to get rid of it.
