  1. After having my third one break on my .40 I went with the floating pin but since it doesn't have the factory return spring to retain it I used a drop of vibratite on both sides of the frame to keep the pin from walking. Not my favorite way of handling it but I didn't like the idea of drilling out the trigger to use the factory roll pin. I hate roll pins. I have about 2500rds on it now with no problem.

My Tanfo limited in 9mm hasn't had any problems with the bolt yet. But I have another pin in jy bag just in case.

  2. It pretty epic when that happens. In my case the c clip fell out so not only did the trigger assembly fall out, the trigger assembly sent springs everywhere on the stage. Luckily found all the pieces and used a bandaid to hold it together for the rest of the day.

  3. We recently got an M3K in that is not already pre-sold, and we will give it a thorough evaluation in factory form before taking it to the extreme limit on port work. It will be a test-bed for an all-out pushing the envelope race gun. I will start a new thread to track our progress, as soon as we are back on track with our backlog of work. Can't jump into a new project when there are customer guns overdue..........

Great to read your feeling better and going to keep developing stuff.

April was a year of having my MOA gun. ~30 matches and an unknown amount of rounds through it.

I am still very happy with the gun and work done by MOA.

  4. Over the past month, I have taught/coached close to 100 students in 3Gun/Shotgun. Regardless of platform, the overwhelming cause of shotgun issues were 2 things.

    1. Cheap ammo. Federal Bulk Pak shotgun shells have poor QC, soft hulls JUST SAY NO. Winchester Promo, same thing. If you want cheap shotgun ammo, look at the Remington Gun Club or RIO. We even run that stuff in majors and for about $1/box more, it is well worth it.

    2. Springs. Either too much, or not enough. 24" of free spring length in the magazine tube is not better. :) Reduced recoil springs are also a culprit, especially out of battery bobbles.

Not knowing the manual of arms for the shotgun was probably in 3rd place, but nowhere near the first two.

Like pistols and rifles, shotguns operate well in an operational window. Change too much and bad things happen. Also, a 300 pound man may be fine with a set up that flat out does not work for a 100 pound shooter. Guns are tools. Understand the interface and operational window and adapt the gun to the specific shooter.

those 2 things were the issues with 100% of the people that I personally know who had issues with their Mossbergs. Its funny to me that many wanted to spend 1200 on a M2/1301/Versamax, but balked at the idea of paying a dollar more for a box of decent shells.

  5. I have seen this happen on 3 guns when the lifter was bent. Either from improper assembly (forcing it when not lined up) or in one case, it was bent from the factory. It can also happen from overly zealous quad loading. The two rails on either side of the slot down the bottom of the lifter should be exactly the same height. If the rail further from the ejection port (left rail as you hold the gun in shooting position) is higher at all, it will roll the cartridge towards the ejection port, hanging up on the edge of the loading port. I have seen 2 Benelli lifters bent in the same fashion over the years. I have never seen it occur on the TTI lifters, but they have a different shape on the stamping that may be stronger.

Got home from work and took a look at the gate and I had to look at it from a few angles but sure enough it was tweaked The left side of the lifter was slightly twisted up. With some slight force it went right back to even height. I racked about 50 rds through it holding the gun in a few different ways and all fed perfectly.

Will live fire this weekend but I think you were right on it.

    Thanks Tom.

I have a TTI lifter but I will check to see if somehow it got bent. I could see that happening.. part of what I was practicing was dumping it and one of the times i remember the bolt dropping (empty gun) after I dumped it. I wonder if it got banged up then. Obviously it was enough to drop the bolt. It's also very possible that was my last practice run without the problem now that I think about it.

  7. Sunday during some practice drills my M3K started having some issues feeding. It ran perfect for 5 or 6 runs but then it started failing to feed almost EVERY round. Saturday I shot a match with zero issues.

The problem: As a new shell attempts to enter the chamber, it will hang on the barrel extension. From what I can tell the extractor/spring (recently replaced OEM Stoeger with Benelli M2 pieces) is the culprit. It's pushing the shell at the bottom and causing the nose to go in crooked (away from the chamber). If you barely tap the nose of the shell, the shell will load in fine.

I took it apart and made the M2 "hook" less sharp to look more like the Stoeger one. I didn't go to far since I wanted to get some feed back first but it seemed to help. When I manually cycle it now, it only hung up once in about 100 cycles.. where as before it would do it 5 out of 10 or more.

The barrel extension is already smooth and rounded off to help with feeding.

Anyone ever have this problem? If it keeps happening I am going back to the Stoeger set up.

  8. So, yes you can put a Red neck Tab on the M3000....it does require that you remove some mat'l from the polymer spacer that butt's up against the forearm and sits on the mag tube.

    Whats that thing do?

its a pretty slick/inexpensive bolt release. I've used one on the benellis and its pretty smooth especially when using match saver.

I prefer the MOA only because i can unload the tube easier by leaning the button back which i dont think is possible with the RNT.

  9. We have been experimenting a bit with the Stoeger Vs Benelli extractor deal, and both types show wear in exactly the same way. The difference is in how long they take to get there. I am starting to think that excessive wear on the Stoeger is not caused so much by the extractor itself, but the recess in the barrel. The ramp it must ride up as the bolt rotates into battery is not as gradual or as finely finished as the M2. This puts a decent amount of side load on the extractor, which is what causes that wear. Normal rotation about the pin as it snaps over the rim does not cause this. We will have about 30 or so Stoegers in the shop this week, so I am comparing them all to see if they all need some polishing in this area or just some. If it is a pervasive issue, we will probably make it part of the work we do on all of them, and just adjust the price a minimal amount to cover it.

that makes sense to me from what I saw.

One of the downsides of buying my m3k so early was the comp package keeps getting tweaks as stuff comes up, like this one, possibly.

If any of those 30 have serial numbers moved and available for sale can i buy one, pretty please?

  10. I've lost track of the round count on my m3k but after this weekends Atlanta 3Gun I broke it down to clean it (we were rained on) and noticed a little bit of wear on the OEM extractor on the sides. The actual hook looked fine, and the gun has extracted fine since purchase.

Since I had it out, I did replace it with the Benelli extractor and spring. Here is a pic if anyone is interested. It had similar wear on both sides. It was slightly rough, if I were to reinstall it i would of polished it.

The bolt itself did not show any signs of wear in the channel where the extractor goes.

That would be perfectly normal "wear" . Bluing is rubbed off from the extractor doing its job.

It was a little rougher than just the blueing. Would take a fine file to knock it down. I'll try to get a better picture. Never the less it ran 100 problem free rounds the day before.

  12. What parts should we be looking out for as far as wear goes?

I've lost count on how many rounds I have through mine at this point. Since Jan 1, I have ran about 6 cases of shells through my MOA M3K. It keeps getting smoother and is now cycling federal bulk packs fine. I still cant get Fiochi low recoil slugs of any type to cycle reliably but I've been VERY happy with the Federal Truball so I've sold the cases of Fiochi's i had.

I do have the Benelli extractor/spring on standby since that's the only part I've read here that people have had to replace. I haven't seen any signs of abnormal wear on mine yet.

In a weird situation this weekend the carrier pin c-clip, that doubles as the Trigger pin retainer came lose/fell out/failed/disapeared which caused my trigger pin to fall out during a reload.. made for an interesting stage. I would say this is more of a fluke than anything but I've ordered a 5pack of c clips today to keep them in my range bag.

Ever see the guys with target pasters stuck on the sides of their receiver (on any assorted brand of gun)?

    Know you know why.

didnt even consider using a paster!! i used a bandaid after all the parts were found! lol

I thought I read about a lightened Bolt on the MOA FB. Is that going to be available right after shot? Any info that you want to share for us not able to make it to shot?
