  1. I put some GL101O sights on my G17, and went to the range. I was disappointed to see that my POI was about 4" high at 20 yards. I asked another experienced shooter to shoot my gun, thinking I might be doing something terribly wrong, and he had the same result. My load is 5.0 grains of Power Pistol with a 124 grain Montana Gold RN or JHP depending on what is available. When I called Trijicon, I was connected with a marginally competent customer service rep who confirmed my calculation that I need a 0.035 inch taller sight, which they have available as a non-catalogue item. It costs $79 with an additional $10 shipping charge. She did inform me that I could have exchanged it if I had not installed it. I don't know how I was to deduce this need without installing the sight first.

Has anyone else had a similar problem? If so what did you do about it?

    Thanks for looking.

  2. It finally happened, and there doesn't seem to be any on the horizon, so I have to change (I learned as a parent that ALL change is BAD!). I load MG 124 Hp's on my 1050, and Bayou 147's on my 550. I have 4# of Power Pistol and 6#'s of Tite Group. Any recommendations for which powder to use with which bullet?

    Thanks,

  3. Thanks for the input. My loads are nothing extreme. Unfortunately I cannot control my brass too much, other than sort out the really nasty stuff, and anything that had a primer come loose during tumbling. It sound like I may want to get an aftermarket for my G35 just for peace of mind.

  4. There have been a number of reports here and elsewhere, of case ruptures leading to "spontaneous disassembly" of various Glocks. Given the ammo shortage, and my general cheapness, I shoot mainly reloaded ammo, using "range brass" of uncertain age (After shooting, the brass is just collected and divided up). Is this a setup for a case rupture event? Would I be safer with a supported chamber aftermarket barrel? Are all the aftermarket barrels supported chamber?

    Thanks for looking.

  5. Since very few of us make money shooting, by definition it is something we do to enjoy ourselves. I shoot sporting clays mainly, and I routinely get beaten by people shooting guns that cost 10% what my beautifully engraved, custom stocked gun cost. For a brief time, I switched to one of those guns to see if they were better. The short answer was no. And I didn't have the pleasure of using my treasured gun mentioned above. So I have dedicated more effort to trying to shoot to the level of the gun, but I also try to remember that I do this for pleasure.

When it comes to pistols, I actually shoot Glocks better than other pistols, and I don't have any pistols that just give me joy when I shoot them the same way that shotgun does. So do what maximizes your enjoyment of the sport.

  6. bry@n,

The big thing when taking a lesson from Anthony is to just do what he says. The next thing is to practice it. That is the hard part for me, because when someone is keeping score, I just want to break the target any way I can. I am getting better at the practice discipline, and that is what will make a lasting improvement.

    Enjoy the lesson.

  7. This is an unsolicited endorsement for the Dawson Perfect Sight guarantee. I have F.O. Fixed on my G34, and their recommendation worked perfectly. When I got night sights for a G19 the poi was way high. One phone call, and immediately a new front sight was on the way, with a message to not hesitate to call for a custom height if needed. That is customer service!

  8. I have been shooting skeet and clays for 15 years now, with a fair amount of success. It is almost the exact opposite of what you do for pistol shooting. Look at the target ONLY, and wack at the trigger when it seems right.

There is no faster way to get better than to take good lessons, then practice what you have learned. Often this is difficult if you shoot where they throw fixed rounds and keep score. If you can find a club where you can set up shots to learn and practice a particular presentation, you will improve much more quickly than if you are constantly trying to figure out all the shots on a five stand course. Nothing inhibits the willingness to experiment with technique more than a score card.

If you ever get a chance to take a lesson with Anthony Matarese, DO IT!

    Good luck on the journey.

  9. I hope this is the correct forum. My hand gun shooting journey has been circuitous. I started with S&W revolvers, then some 1911's, finally degenerating into Glock shooting. When I recently picked up my 625, I couldn't believe how difficult the sights were to see. I have been shooting 0.100 front, 0.145 rear Dawson sights, and I find them so much easier to use, especially in suboptimal light, or when trying to reacquire during a string of fire. Is there anything similar for my revolvers? How (where) do I get them?

  10. I also signed up for notification, but haven't heard anything yet. It may just take a while for the electrons to reach the east coast. Has anyone heard when they will have them back in stock?

  11. Since it seemed unlikely that the whole thing was going to blow up, I went out and just swapped the top end, and it seemed to work fine, better in fact than my gen4 G19, which pelts me in the face with hot brass. I think for now I'm going to leave things as they are and hope for the best.

  12. I have a Robar customized gen3 G35, and a stock gen3 G34. Can I just swap top ends and shoot the 34 top end on the 35 frame,or do I need to change the ejector? Are there any other differences to contend with?

    Thanks,

  13. In my hands, a G19 feels better than a G17, and I find the shorter grip easier to conceal. For a ' gamer gun', a G35 can shoot production or limited major, has a longer sight radius, and a better trigger, so that is my choice when I get 'serious'. Just another option.
