  1. I just received this update from the match director:

I only have 5 applications for our multigun match in July in an effort to make this match happen we will pay back 3 positions in each division limited, open, tactical. First place will get $60 second place will get $40 and third place will get $20.

We will also drop the price from $50 to $40 the applications I already have will get a $10 refund the day of the match(no lunch provided). Round count will be 10 slugs 50 birdshot 100 pistol and 100 rifle. If someone needs a shotgun we will have a couple for your use just bring the ammo. Let me know a head of time who needs a shotgun thanks, Sam.

Deadline for applications will be July 5th. If we don't get enough applications the match will be cancelled and we will have a regular monthly match.

  2. Pre-registration only by June 20th. 50 shooters max.

  3. I read the book last week. One of those books I couldn't put down, spellbinding. 4 hours and it was done. That being said if it doesn't thoroughly depress you, you might have some sort of social disorder and should probably seek professional help.

  4. I scrounge lead anywhere I can. Wheel weights, range lead, Print metal, solder, pipe, roof flashing, x-ray sheeting, the only thing I usually have to pay for is the print metal.

There seems to be a magic relationship between bullet hardness, pressure, and lube; if you find that sweet spot you are golden. This usually means running a slower powder than you would normally use. I am currently using some OLD WW540 for my 40s, SOLO 1000 for my 45s and H4831 for my 308s.

I think accuracy comes easier with cast that with jacketed. My current 308 load shoots well under 2" groups at 100 yards, and uses the same gas setting as M80 ball. I even shot a rifle match this year with my own cast bullets, just to see if I could.

Lee 6 cavity molds are great for speed. Once you get a rhythm 1000 bullets per hour is easy to do, cast a years worth in a day.

I use Lee Tumble lube for most things, and only size for rifle or when installing gas checks. There is a commercial equivalent call XLOX that is cheaper. The little bottles from Lee will do 3000+ bullets, if you thin it with a bit of mineral spirits.

  5. Not to be stupid, but how did the 2nd round get chambered? Can a squib cycle the slide?

A squib can cycle the slide in a blowback gun(been there done that). I have never seen it happen in a locked breech gun.

I don't know if I would have called this a "squib" myself since only the jacket was left in the barrel. Any chance in finding out what make the bullet was?

  6. Yes, DSA just started selling their own mags. 20 rd shipping now, 25 and 30 rd coming. You have to call, they are not on the website. Not sure of the price; they were talking $20 a while back.

    Lee

The early production DSA mags that are out right now don't work. The feed lips are shaped entirely wrong, and cause bolt over base malfunctions(fixable with some judicious file and Dremel work). The 20's are out now at $20( but if they don't work, I don't care since I can just open another 10 pack of Belgian mags when I need them). They have been saying 3 more weeks on the 25's and 30's since April, apparently spring issues(I have 8 of each on order since they were first announced), priced at $25 each.

Haunt the marketplace on the FALfiles.com deals come up pretty regularly.

  7. But I am going soon to a match where we will bs shooting buck on paper IPSC style and I have nover done that.

You really want to paste 27 to 54 holes in that paper(from #4 buck)? Pasters are expensive... If I design a stage, I specify 0, 00, or 000 in the stage description.

  8. I don't know how far it would be but Pardoe Sportsmen's Association (Linky) just outside Mercer, PA. puts on a pretty good USPSA match once a month. Like most outdoor matches here in the NE part of the country, this coming Sunday the 18th is the last match for this year.

We are doing more matches, but they are going to be on less notice due to weather. This Sunday the 8th we are doing a carbine match, but it can be shot with pistols. For the carbine we are going to shoot 22, pistol cal carbine, 223, and real rifle classes(308, 30-06, 8mm etc).

No reason you can't shoot a 22 pistol. Targets will all be under 40 yards, pistol will have closer boxes.

We have a group of guys that drive in from Indiana,PA every month, but you are a good bit further.

  9. I just picked up a Colt (Umarex) M4 .22 Carbine and hope to

substantially improve the Trigger Pull & over-travel.

Any Gunsmiths on here who have experience with these fairly

    new offerings from Colt ?

Does it actually run? I have heard nothing but awful reports associated with them.

  10. I recently ran 200gr. Montana Gold Bullet (CMJ) at 1.125" OAL, in front of 4.9 gr. of Solo 1000. Ran about 172 pf from my Glock 24 and about a 168pf from the Glock 35. Just a note on the Solo 1000 load; this is an old batch of powder that doesn't seem as potent as more recent stuff. So start a bit lower (-10%) than what I listed an work up.

I'd be very very cautious of that load.

I ran Berry's 200's at 1.185" with 4.0 to 4.1 grains of Solo 1000, this made 175PF+ a bit in my Para. My primers usually showed a tiny bit of pressure.

  11. Question for you guys with CZ *D guns. If you hold a CZ decocker equipped pistol in your left hand, how hard is it to operate the (left side) decocker with your thumb?

Difficult, unless your thumb has one more joint than mine.

  12. I loaded 5 rounds at 5 grains, went outside and test fired them. Recoil was more straight back than my previous batch loaded with Bullseye. Brass went in a high arc landing at 2:00 5 feet away. All 5 could have been caught in a 5 gallon bucket if I knew where to put it.

No chance to chrono as it is raining here.

  13. Another advantage, at least for me, is that the 500/590 Mossbergs have a big gaping hole instead of a loading gate. For me it makes a difference. Easy to shove multiple shells in the tube in one motion.

  14. My local shop had a bunch of Win Super handicap for $80/8. I couldn't resist powder for that price so I bought a couple jugs.

Has anybody loaded 45 ACP with it. I emailed Hodgdon/IMR/WW about it and never heard back, they don't list any pistol data for it.

On the burn charts it is just slower than Green Dot or SOLO 1000 which would be my normal powders.

I am loading 230 gr RN lead for major, any thoughts on a starting load? I was thinking 5 grains...
