[Why no automatic primer feeder on presses ?]

I like spending time shooting - Not reloading.

I mounted both my 650 case feeders on their own stands, it certainly took away the vibration to/from the case feeder which made things run smoother.

Mr Bullet Feeder is on it's own stand shared between the two 650's.

It used to be a hell of a lot noisier too, with all that weight shaking around on that thin tube

Just wondering about the brass you got is it working ok? Not any different to Starline?

I just found it on that QLD gunshop they say they've got drums of it in bulk.

So if it seems ok I might give it a crack, in 38sp 45LC

G'Day from the world of Single Action Shooting Downunder...

I found you guys recently when researching the purchase of a new Dillon Press. Needless to say there was a stack of info in the forums which helped me settle on the XL650, which is now up and running, 400 x .357's in 45 min today with a few slow patches... work on preperation a bit more.

Pretty much everything I have come across so far has been of a very high standard from the FAQs to the tone of the moderators when helping someone who isn't quite sure of their question.

Over the years I have been in dozens of forums and this is right at the top of the pile.

Congratulations to BE and all the people who make it easy for people to join in discussions without being jumped on and made to feel inferior when they need help.

[Fix for the snapping shellplate on a 650]

For anybody in Australia who wants to try this.

My local bearing supplier didn't have them in stock but got them withing 24 hours.

Part numbers are

Timken NTA 815 for the bearing

Timken TRC 815 for the thrust washers.

Note: Those thrust washers are 1/16" thick. They did have 1/32 (.032") available but I forgot what I was supposed to be buying:wacko:

[Dillon, How About Grease Fittings?]

Here are excerpts from my lecture notes on the 650.

Please keep in mind these are for my use when giving seminars, so they are not

in correct grammar.

4) Cleaning of 650

a) Use 409 or similar detergent cleaner to clean interior of case feeder. Never use petroleum based solvents on any plastics

Use alcohol on a small patch to clean interior of primer magazine and pickup tubes.

c) Use orange oil based “Gunk” handcleaner to clean interior of powder hopper, to lighten it after extended powder storage in tube.

d) Use alcohol to wipe off powder bars, and swab out interior of powder measure body where bars slide. Also use alcohol to clean interior of powder drop tube, powder funnel.

e) Use alcohol to periodically wipe off primer disc, primer seating punch.

4)Reassembly of 650, emphasis on lube points

a) lube shaft w/ 30 wt motor oil

lube all pivot pins with grease-show grease grooves in pins,lube holes in crank and link arms. Don’t forget mainshaft pivot pin.

c) lightly grease interior of ring indexer, camming surface of ring indexer and indexer block.

d) lightly grease the primer cam on the upper right side of the frame.

e) lightly grease angled cam surface on slide cam

f) lightly grease platform rails where case insert slide rides

g) lightly grease ramp on case insert slide, where camming pin contacts it

h) lightly grease underside of shellplate bolt, where it contacts top of shellplate.

i) lightly grease rails on connector body collar

j) lightly grease roller on connector body collar

k) lightly grease primer disc pin

l) heavily grease underside of station one locator, where it fits into platform entension

Wouldn't it be a little better to include this info in your instruction video and manual. It's not very likely I will ever catch your lectures unless you do a world tour and include Australia.

Great machine none the less and the sales service from NVT/DillonAU in Perth Western Australia was absolutely sensational.
