They called me Monday saying that my 2000ct of 124gr JHP will be shipping Tuesday, they just came in today!!! Now time for some loads, except I'm gonna run out of primers, down to 450 federal small pistol primers

I got my barrel back from Springer Precision, I got it throated to accept rds loaded out to 1.160". I made 7 loads, the first 4 were loaded out to 1.140". All loads tested were with hornady XTP 124gr. JHP with WAC as the powder, Fed small pistol primers and mixed brass. Used a Prochrono.
These 4 were loaded to 1.140"

My though:
Shooting a compensated pistol for the first time with fast loads was a pleasant surprise. I can't describe it but there is a big difference. At first I was having problems with light primer strikes, but luckily I brought my stock striker spring and everything was fine as far as the gun going BANG!! I did have issues with FTE and also the spent casings not flying far enough, maybe its my right support thumb blocking most of the ejection port since I'm a lefty.
Here is the vid with the light primer strikes, look at those horrible flinches lol. (Click on pic to view video)
I am glad that I got the barrel throated as I noticed that the shorter OAL were showing signs of too much pressure causing close to flattening primer effect. The longer OAL primers seem to fine though. I'm thinking I may end up sticking to a 6.8 or a 6.9 of WAC and have a OAL of 1.160". Once I get more bullets in, I'll tinker with the recoil springs a little more, currently I am using a 1911 guide rod made for the XDm with Wolff 13lb spring.
Suggestions appreciated!!
EDIT: Fixed the issue with the layout. Stupid MacBook, apparently my chrome browser is acting up and won't let me post replies or start new topics. Had to write this up on word then send it to my email on my iPhone. Then copy and paste it to this forum from my iPhone....geez

Any chance you have a link for the video?
Sure!! I don't think he states it in the video, but check in the comments, as I asked him about it.
-
I saw a guy on YouTube do a review on the mount in his G17. I asked him how much did he lower it since I had one for my XDm open. He said 0.1000".
-
One other thing to look at would be your trigger pin for the carver mount. Make sure your trigger moves freely. It that pin is too tight it will cause some odd issues.
Yeah, when I first installed it the trigger did not move at all. Took it out, threw it in my dremel and spun it in between some 1000 grit automotive sandpaper. Smoothed it out. Also found out the vertical serrations on my thumb rest were cutting my thumb up lol. I took a file to it when I got home.
-
Try your stock striker spring. Also do you have a 1911 spring guide rod? If so try a 11 lb variable for major loads or a 10lb for minor loads. Don't do ant spring tuning till you get your comp on it though, it will all change then. What spring and load did you use in the video?
You aren't going to believe the difference in the feel once you get that comp on there.
Thanks for the input!! Yes sir, I do have SP 1911 guide rid, I was using a 13lb spring, the loads were just reloaded one I use for plinking. Bullseye loaded to 4.0grs i believe. Calculating the avg. velocity of 950 w/ the 142gr came to 134.9pf.
-
Lol, yeah, I guess I'll have to start from my loads frist. I'm hoping to get my barrel back this week. I decided to change out my sear spring from my modified to stock for now.Of course spring selection depends on ones load too. Change bullet weight, increase / decrease power factor and everything changes.

Although my XDm open gun is 40 caliber, I had quite a time getting it to run. I have a large collection of springs now. In my case a whole lot of trial and error occurred, and I discovered making a striker-fired open gun cycle correctly is not easy.
I am currently running a stock striker spring, 1911 style guide rod and 12.5 pound recoil spring.
Good luck!
Yeah, striker spring could also be another cause, I'm running a springer precision reduced striker spring which I also cut to fit it. Thinking about it, the other guys that's shot it didn't have any FTE and their right handed.
-
Still waiting for the threaded barrel to come in, went shooting to see how the chrony works. I ran into a few issues: I had a few FTE, but I'm wondering if its due to me being a lefty and having the brass fly close to my support thumb. Also there were a times the striker did not reset after the slide cycled, I don't know if its the recoil spring or maybe the sear spring? It was a nice to finally shoot it, and I just did some adjustments to the C-more, though the shots may move after I get the barrel back. (click on pic to watch video)

I just got mine the other day. The beretta insert worked well. Was tight enough to hold it in place, but I can pull out the mag without them getting stuck.
BTW, I'm guessing the small plastic strip that came with the pouches is inserted between the mag pouch and belt to secure it in its position?

IT'S HERE....except for one problem. We had a miscommunication with the slide cuts, my gunsmith though he was adding another cocking serration, but I didn't explain that I was asking for actual slide cut out to lighten the slide. No biggie just need to send it back. Here is a teaser:
Also the compensator just needs a good timing for it to align perfectly with the slide. Well, patience is a virtue, besides it'll give me time to work some loads since I got my 124gr JHP today as well, and I need to get a chrony as well.
EDIT: I was able to fix the timing on the comp, I think it could have been due to some of the cerakote getting into the threads.

Well stroke of luck today!!! My LGS had some 9mm, went there after work but they sold out. But as I was checking out the guns, I saw one of the employees walk a customer with two 1lb containers of AutoComp!!! Asked I they still had any more and luckily they had 3 left. I just picked up one for me self and also 40rds of mil-surplus .308. Spent more than I was originally was gonna spend, but hey payday is Monday . Slide will hopefully be in tomorrow!!

Thanks man!! I just order 100 hornady XTP JHP last night on gunbroker. So it should be good until I get my delta precision.
-
2/12 ordered 1000 124 JHP and then 2/13 decided to get 1000 115 FMJ. Hope to get them soon! BTW a little off topic but I got 1lb of HS-6 ordered from powder valley on 2/26, hoping to get it soon....then they announced auto comp in stock on their FB page this week, so I ordered 8lbs of it yesterday while its still available. Won't be shipped til 4/26. Just a heads up for those that need some!!
-
WOO HOO!!! Mark Housel just sent out my slide today so it's expected to arrive on Thursday!!! I also was able to secure 8lbs of AutoComp from poweder valley inc, it won't be shipped till 4/26 but its better than nothing!!!
-
I have seen a few Open M&P, most have a MRDS slide mounted.
-
I am looking for the XDm 4.5 to start my own build!
Thanks!!! Fingers crossed that hopefully the slide will get done this week, I don't have any major rds made and I hate to use the 147gr lead bullets that I have for reloading. I'm "hoping" to magically find some factory rds locally. 3 port comp prob won't do well with minor, but we will see.

I just got my my carver mount back from bobby with his thumb rest installed. Feels nice!! I also got a wheelers trigger guage and with the old PRP ultimate match trigger kit I'm getting 4.5 lbs, using my compact slide since my 4.5 slide is being worked on as we speak. I ordered some HS-6 from powder valley and hope to have it soon, my 124gr JHP bullets from precision prob wont ship til april for may :/.......so anyone willing to have me purchase 100rd of 124 JHP bullets? lol. My state nursing board exam is monday, so wish me luck!!! Once I become a LVN more money for more toys
-
Yeah, I just sent out my slide with barsto barrel and comp to mark @ L&M Precision monday. Hope to get it in 2wks. Also sent my carver mount to bobby to get a thumb rest installed.Damn cause that thing looks sweet. Once i save enough to get an Edge im turning my xdm into an open gun for steel challenge.
-
I dont think it will be ready by 3/17. I'm waiting on a match grade barrel from Springer precision, which I'll have to send the entire gun to my gunsmith to fit it. I'm also contemplating removing the old PRP trigger kit and sending it off to get a 2.5# trigger pull on it. Currently it stands at 4#Vash...
Are you going to be shooting in the Texas Riviera and will you be shooting the XDm. I would love to see that thing run.

Yeah, sucks that there isn't a mount option like SJC for the XDm.
Open gun parts for the XD & XDm are starting to catch up with what you can get for Glocks. Seems the XD's are newer into the Open scene. Of course one advatage to te Carver mount is you don't have to permanently modify your gun by drilling for the bushings. I'm going with the sideways mount by SJC.
Ahh intresting....I kinda wished I bought the thumb rest while the mount was with bobby :/ oh well.

Thanks for the compliments!!!
Very nicely done. That's about what I want to do to my Glock this year. I am slowly but surely getting everything done that I can as still use it in Limted. Have the magwell and extended mags, now just need the trigger kit and slide cuts. Are you having Bobby Carver do your slide cuts?
I'm actually going to send it out to Mark Housel of L&M Precision to do the cuts. He is also going to repaint the slide and compensator in cerakote satin .aluminum, fit my slide racker (accidentally took off too much on it and its loose) and also fit a storm lake threaded barrel.
I'd like to start practicing draws...but no holster for now

Getting the race gun running!!! Still need to work out some kinks, failure to eject seems to be on my part since I like to have a high grip with my right hand causing the brass to bounce off my thumb and back in the chamber. I may also need to clean the brass better
