  1. There are several posts already on the forum concerning the RM. Do a search and you should find a wealth of comments.

I was told by Dave Skinner of STI that I needed several rounds (1000) through the gun to fully appreciate the RM. I have done so, and am pleased with the performance. However, I have had two problems. Firstly, it hammered the flange on the reverse plug after several hundred rounds, and caused it to flare by several thousanths. No apparent damage to the tunnel in the frame. I chucked it up, turned it down, and have had no further problems. Secondly, when I need the comfort of a 20-round load in my 141 mm. mag, it sometimes won't strip that first round properly, due to the lightness of the spring.

  2. Jeff,

Look at the JPoint sight on the JP Enterprises website. I think it's similar to the Optima, but improved. Saw one at the Florida Open and the dot looked good, but otherwise, I have no experience with them. I know they make several different mounts for rifles, pistols, and shotguns.

  3. I have the same setup on my Benelli as Todd Salmon's.  It is a fold-down 10/22 with an 0.040 fiber optic front enshrouded by a 0.075 blade.  Benny Hill did mine.  It works well for me, except in very low-light conditions.  I don't see well to start with, and in low light, the FO is too small to gather adequate light for me.  Probably fine for younger eyes.

  4. Lee manual shows starting load of 4.5 gr. of Clays (I assume it's straight Clays)  for 230 gr jacketed, but that may be hotter than you want.  I have loaded 4.0 of straight Clays with 230 gr.  JHP and it shoots nicely from my 5" Springfield.  I haven't had time to chrono it yet but suspect it may be in range of 750 fps.  The Lee manual shows 874 fps for its never exceed load of 4.7gr.  Doesn't mention a barrel length.

  5. Hi George (Geoffrey),

Thanks for all the input concerning my JP.  John G. at JP told me I didn't need to do  much of anything for break in, but he never mentioned why.  I should have listened to what he said.  I have another JP on order so I guess I'll forget about all the labor-intensive things I did the last time and just shoot the thing.

  6. A question for some of you experienced rifle competitors from an inexperienced one.  I currently have a TA 11D on my flattop JP and am thinking of switching to the TA 31F with the chevron.  There is a slightly wider field of view, and with the open-based chevron instead of the triangle, I feel I might be able to see the close up targets a little better underneath the chevron when I am having to hold over.  I'm also considering a 1.5 to 5. The 1 to 4 that you mention, Kelly, sounds interesting also.  Is that something currently available to novice shooters such as myself, or is it something in prototype?

  7. Benelli M21 Field is my gun of choice.

As to an all-around shot shell, there isn't one.  It varies with what the stages present, i.e. steel, clays, or paper.  Those are the three variants we have.  I like tactical buck loads with reduced recoil for steel.  I like 7 1/2 for clays; 3 1/4 dram eq. for close and 3 3/4 dram eq. for distant.  For paper, we are required to use slugs only.  I like the Remington reduced-recoil slugs.

  8. Spend a little more and get a "Benny Gun" (Triangle Shooting Sports.)  I have a 6" light weight he built for me this fall with some extra metal removed from the slide via an elongated port.  It's lighter than a Lexor, and if you need extra weight for your style of shooting, you can add a tungsten guide rod.   When you reach my age, the extra sight radius is a plus also.  He has reasonable turn-around times and good prices.

  9. I currently have the 11-D, but have had some experience with the TA-01, TA-31, and the doughnut like yours.  I like the doughnut best and am planning to trade for one, when the opportunity arises.
