  1. Thank you for the replies.  I will likely only shoot it in about a half dozen matches in a year.  We live about 30 miles from Dawson Precision; they are good about addressing any issues that may come up.

  2. Holy smokes, my club just hosted it's local/monthly IDPA match and we had 111 shooters!! It's likely a record for our club. With the exception of one stage, there wasn't too much of a wait for our squad. But here's the kicker, we were in our cars, driving off the range by 2:30!!

It was another gorgeous weekend here, dry and sunny, and it seemed everyone wanted to come out and play. Had a good day, wasn't my best match, but I had a good time.

What's the most you've had at your local IDPA match?

I am pretty sure we had less shooters at the Coastal Bend Challenge regional match in Corpus a couple of weeks ago.

  3. Ok, after investigating the mag problem I have discovered that they are not hitting the slide release lever. They are in fact just wider than the Mecgar and Wilson mags. Looks like I will be getting more new mags for this gun.

A co-shooter of mine just got his 9mm Spartan in with 4 Dawson mags. Three dropped ok, 1 dropped poorly, and none of them drop out very quickly. It appeared to me there was something going on with the mag catch. at first, they would hang on the mag release while inserting. However, a while they began to insert satisfactorly.

  4. Shhh! Don't tell the wife...

That is a really good idea though. I hadn't considered that the .40 upper would work on a lower set up for 9mm. If I decide to get a .40, I will just have to buy a complete gun. Of course, then I will need a .45 to round out the set.

Good grief, I'm going to go broke!!

What division do you plan to shoot it?

  5. Chad, Alan has been shooting a GP6 in matches, both local and sactioned in SSP. He should be at Coastal Bend and probably at Cove Saturday. Ask him to show it to you.

I was not sure if it met the production criteria as far as number of units sold/produced. He seems to like his. It must be pretty nice since he has shot it over using his eagle.

  6. http://www.stiguns.com/guns/GP6-C/GP6-C.php

Factory checkering/stippling is fine in SSP.

The link says DA/SA action, with (ambi) thumb safety. So it could go SSP if the production numbers are high enough if it starts hammer down.

It looks like it could go ESP even if it's a low production gun, either DA/SA or cocked and locked (sti website wasn't clear if this was possible).

    Thanks, good info

  7. I was looking at the photos of the GP6 and saw lines carved into the front of the grip. I quess it is not considered checkering or stippling? Anyone know what division the GP6 fits into?

  8. The full-length dust cover is a no-go too, right?

That is correct, no full lenght dust cover in ESP that is metalic

Actually its materials heavier than carbon or stainless steel unless the gun meets all division requirements in SSP

  9. I have a Dawson Ice and it went on without any needed modifications. However, you will need to get the extended base pads when you order your magwell. It works quite well.

  10. Was not planning on shooting today but could not stand it. Barrel with the bad crown will still put every bullet (60 of them) into a 3in circle at 50 ft. Most went into a ragged hole, the rest was probably my bad eyes and shaky hands. Will probably have the crown re-cut just because it bothers me, but this is more than good enough for steels. Just need more practice.

By the way used 10mm mags to shoot 40S&W with no issues at all. Pleasant surprise.

Will your 10 mm shoot 40 S&W ammo?

  11. For you guys that are already shooting a G34/G35, you're already shooting a lightened slide and extended mag release which is already against "the spirit of IDPA" but it's considered OK because they come that way from Glock. So...paint the magwell/plug black, put a big ol' "G" on it, pretend that it "came that way", and everyone will sleep alot better at night.

+1 Glock built the 34 and 35 to replace the L and to fit in the box to be shot in USPSA production and IDPA.

  12. Might be a foolish question but is changing the magwell on a Glock important ? Factory stock 1911 you have to line things up right but my SSP M&P is pretty easy to insert mags, Double stack mags are tapered and slip in easy without any add on parts. I would guess Glocks same thing applys.

Shooting matches it's best to focus on breaking shots not worrying about equipment, or if the equipment is going to be a problem with the officals. Outside thoughts are not going to help performance.

I like the way the Ice magwell acts as a self to support my weak hand. I get a more consistant grip.

  13. I use a Trojan 40 cal with 9 round mags, ice magwell, ambi large safety, and the thin alumagrips. My gun weighs 42.4 ounces. If you go in a 9mm Trojan you will probably not make weight with all the extras.
