Close to 3 years hiatus in shooting, got myself wet in airsoft IPSC a few weeks ago and then dusted off the open gear. Suddenly, I was reminded why I loved the sport so much before.
Now going full swing back to shooting and have an on-going modified project. I never realized you can chop off the dot module like that. Any idea how much you can take off the dot module before killing it?
Hello.. no I actually have no clue about the how much... I received the blaster like shown.. but in in a couple of days I will find out because I am going to modify another C-More for my open-modified-gun-project... so I will see how much. But I think there is not much more room at the module, I think what I have is kind of maximum..
I will convert my open blaster into a ultra shorty open/Modified type 9mmMajor gun. It way too long at the moment I like the handling of those little buggers so much..
Beside that: I you have issues in getting the geometry right for the box I suggest you to cut off a little more at the grip/magwell. you can`t go wrong there...

+1 on that.
The modified virus is kind of stimulating... I am really thinking about a conversion for my Open gun. Its way too long...
I think I will change it to a 9mm Modifed-length open-blaster for shooting minor-modi/major-open and bugging the open guys in OD at local matches where no modified division is available. But in that case with a 140mm mag

Mine hits inside the 6 moa dot now from 10 yards to almost 50. 3 yards center upper A aim gets you an A, as does the same aiming point at 50 yards. Details available in a couple weeks.
+1 for that. The same for me and my zero with 6MOA dot. I was at a match last weekend with some 3meter targets it worked very well for me there..

With a 22 yd zero what is your hold over for 10 yards and closer?
I don`t. Shoot right there where I want to make some holes. Almost Alphas on that close targets so I think I am right.
Maybe I do subconsciously but I will check at the next training session.

I have sighted in at about 20m (approx 22y) and I found out that my hits are just in the Dot. Up until 50m (55y)
My dot is 6 MOA on both pistols my Open (9mmPara Major) and my Modified (.40 Major). I don`t have more trajectory than my dot is in size.
We have had targets at about 32m at the 2009 Med-Cup in France, my shots were exactly on the same position like my dot was.
So I am always fine with my zero. No thinking about it at all.

P.S.: Sorry for the grammar..don`t think that was correct 100%.

thanks guys. jojo's pistol shoots pretty flat. hope to build one that shoots that well. off to find a good gunsmith.
Good luck with that... you will not regret your decision about the modified division... its so much fun shooting those little firebugs
As I said before: welcome to the even darker side.....

Hello and first of all welcome to the even darker side...
My advice will be: Go for a compensated gun in .40 to be competitive
My Blaster is shooting kind of flat, not as flat as my open but pretty flat.
I don`t have a hybrid, I have a two chamber comp with another two poppy holes in the barrel.
My blaster:

here is a disassembly picture:
My Load is:
165grs Frontier
7.1 grs N340
CCI500 Small Pistol Standard
OAL: 30.50mm
Brass: mix
Have fun building and then shooting your modified-blaster

I used to load Win small pistol, now I am using CCI500. Works fine for me. Price issues no primer issues.

Modified is so much fun and its innovative for the enhancement of those nice -in my case- STI Guns.
My blaster is with a two chamber comp and two poppy holes instead of the SVI-like 6 holes in barrel (think it was tribrid).
That is the kind of next generation modified-guns. In my opinion. It shoots very well in .40S&W with major... my dot stays in the lens of the C-More.
I finished my way to the dark side....

124grs Hornady FM-ENC, 7,3grs Longshot and COL 1,22" (31mm) and CCI 500.
Note: For IPSC a minimum bullet weight of 120grs is mandatory. I think for USPSA this weight is obsolete.
-
Well thanks so far...
I actually load the 9Major to 1.16", with the 124grs bullets. I increase the length to 1.22" because of the longer bullet to keep the seating depth.
Iam realy interested to find a load with the propellants I have at home..
Thinking about loads like: 5.8grs/6.1grs/6,3grs/6,5grs of Longshot.
What do you think about that?
Or should I try N340 for that purpose? Maybe 5grs for the 145?
@JimmyM: The velocity for Major(165) will be 1140 f/s for the 145grs bullet, for the 124grs it has to be 1330 f/s. I think the feeling will be a little less than my Modified...
-
At the moment I am running Hornady 124grs FM-ENC with 7,6grs Longshot and a COL of 1,160". This is good for a good Major Faktor. The Dot stays in the lens of my C-More.
Gun is a STI-Trubor 5". I also have a Modified Blaster which I am running with Frontier 165grs .401 Bullets and 7grs of N340 at 1,2" with a good Major Faktor.
So much for the situation...
My thoughts are: Why shouldn`t I use heavy bullets around 145grs in my Open Blaster. The Modi is kind of a pretty short open with .40 caliber... why do I use so light ones in my open and not in the modi?
Has anybody here experiences with a Major Load with 145/147grs bullets and maybe N340 or Longshot for 9mm Major?
I pretty much don`t know where to start but I really would like to try this because I am shooting the Modified as my main-gun and the Open for training and want to have kind of the same feeling shooting my babies...
Thanks....

I load CCI 500 in 9x19 and even in my .40 load with a Dillon XL650 without any problems.
In all of my guns I have a long Firing Pin installed. Never had a missfire after this upgrade.

5.6-5.8grs of N340 and you`re good to go in a 5" gun.
I think it shoots very nice in mine (STI Edge).

how's the recoil on that little bugger compared to a five inch model?
Well the muzzle flip is not so big because of the comp, it goes straight back to the hand, I would say it is about the same like my 5" std. Maybe a tick more intense.
I really don`t now how to describe the correct way... hope this will answer your question..

it's missing some barrel.
dang! I thought something might be wrong
Beside that: Its shooting like hell.... I really love this short bastard... That is my Division! Modified rocks
I finished my way to the even darker side ...

Just curious which mag tubes you go with for Standard?
The one on the picture is a SVI, I have SPS Mags also. For The Modified and Open I use STI Mags.
Only 126mm Mags, I am not allowed to use longer Mags in Standard/Modified because of the IPSC-Box. Except Open..

Hello everybody..
Just got my Modified Blaster and this is the time to show you my Guns for IPSC-Shooting:
All three:
My open Blaster in 9mm Major:
My Standard in .40:
and finally my newest buy, the Modified in .40:
All of them are build and hand fitted in Germany, near Bonn from HPS
All three are shooting very well, here are the loads:
Open:
124grs Hornady FM-ENC
7,6grs Longshot
WSP/ CCI500
OAL= 29,6mm (1,165")
Standard:
Factory Ammo from Remington with 180grs, shoots good and flat enough/ Factory 180grs from S&B with good results and Major-Faktor
I will load some 180grs ammo for this one, waiting for the Bullets and the I start loading 180grs Frontiers with approx. 5.6-5,8grs N340. Will see. Should be OK.
Modi:
165grs Frontier
7grs N340
WSP/ CCI500
OAL=30mm (1,18")
No problems at all.
Greetings from Germany
