  1. As a card carrying member of the el cheapo club, I've noticed many YouTube reviews about this line of "Red dot".

I can't figure out if they are all legit or all shills. Maybe some of both. Lots of excellent reviews mostly end up with the glass cracked on purpose. Why? I try NOT to drop my pistol. Anyhoo, I thank the OP for asking about this "new" brand. To me they just scream clone of SRO and Holosun. Not that much cheaper either. I hope they are great in the long run. Always good to have options.

  2. for my old IDPA gun, I had STI 126mm mags with Dawson wedge pads and grams 11 coil springs and followers and I could get a reloadable 17 rounds in all of them easy.

Wow... that's cool! 17+1 with 126mm mags is awesome! That's nice to know. I pick up my Edge today and should have my extra mags, grams followers & springs, and Bolen 4mm pads by Friday. Can't wait to build them and see what I get.

I have trimmed my Barsto-40 (STI look alike) to fit inside the IDPA box, and have the same 126mm tubes. I too get a reloadable 17 in the mags.

When people ask me why I went with a .40 cal. instead of a .45 cal. for self defense, I tell them my ONE mag holds more rounds than 2 of theirs!

Always gets a wide eyed look of surprise! and then Oh, I see why.

Happiness is a full high cap magazine. (note: only 10 rounds can be loaded in the mag for IDPA)

  3.

    Already have! LOL , I had;

the dustcover cut (to make it IDPA legal)

Front sight changed to FO (for my older eyes)

milled the mag. funnel to <1 5/8" (again IDPA)

Bead blasted all the hard anodizing off the mag. funnel and polished it with #600 wet/dry sandpaper to match slide finish

Bought a new home for it on my side, Blade Tech belt holster....NOT the DOH.......

I plan on shooting it a lot to smooth out the "stiffness" of being new.

Hand loads VV-n320 4.4gr. MG 180gr., When my order comes up I'll buy a case of Precision 185s. Again with N-320

  4. Continuation of thread drift....

I wonder if the Kilt had any psychological effect on the other shooters.....? Damn fine leggings.

Back on track now, I am concidering making my own shooting vest from a pattern of my pheasant hunting vest. long enough and stylish too! :)

If I make one I'll post some pics.

  5. This is from the assistant DA in Ca. (kinda rhymie)

Bill Lockyer's letterhead is on the first pda.

Sorry I could not find a way to post them directly, comming from a pda.

This is the source of my information and I have it printed out (hard copy as well), so there is no problem discussing this on the internet. One must remember, it is a LAW that hi-cap magazines must have been owned prior to the ban in 2000.

  6. I can't comment on the Lee press as I have never owned or used one, I have a RCBS Pro 2000. It was available at such a screamin' deal price I went with it rather than a Dillon 550 or 650, so far I like my reloader, I'm new to handloads too.

Good luck with your purchase, what ever you end up with. Lots of Blue Koolaid fans on this site...

  8. Thanks for the kind words ....Y'all,

Once the smoke clears out of central Ca. enough to see a target at 15 yards, I'm gunna shoot 'smore handloads through it.

I'm shooting VV N320 4.4gr . 180gr. Montana Gold, OAL 1.80 +/_ .05 . VERY soft load and clean as a Baby's behind......em, well cleaner than that, but, just as soft.

I am learning to watch the fron sight rise off target and then drop back just in time for a second shot. Us old guys can be taught. Lernt' it all right here.

    Thanks,

    Ron

I don't remember where I saw this or who(m) said it first, but it wasn't me.....I'll give credit to whomever claims it.

  9. Paid my dues, waited my 10 days, shipped it back to Irv. , waited 3 more weeks for custom work........Worth the wait? Oh Yeah!

I shot a few rounds prior to the "Postal" match on Sunday, and sorta half-assed sighted it in......Yeah, I should have taken my time from a bench rest, but, you know how a new gun is to shoot. You just want to GO!!!

I shot THE best I have ever shot, tied for 10th most accurate out of 94 shooters.....LOL......there were 2 masters at the match and I Fubared one stage by not counting how many rounds I had left in the mag. prior to the "Make Ready" command. That won't happen again....

Thought I'd share a few photos for your enjoyment. I know I like pictures of others blasters

    Great Gun...

  10. Do a lot more reading than posting here . . .

My new top end part was not entirely tight when I got out of the box and I failed to notice until I loaded on it for a while. I would recommend a check of all the primer system bolts before you assemble the unit on your press.

    Ditto

When it does advance the shellplate there is a bit of a jerk as it locks into the next detent, like most other auto progressives I've used. You will get a few flakes of powder on the shellplate at first. I started watching it closely and made sure I was inserting the next case as it indexed into the next detent and this stopped all the spillage I was having, minor though it was.

I have the same problem with it throwing flakes, I'm using VV N-320 (tiny cut stick) and it was flying everywhere. I pulled the shell plate and cut 2 1/2 turns off the ball detent spring. 1/2 a turn at a time, took awhile, but it helps with the KaChunK.

Overall I am pleased. My "burst" speed is faster then ever before. After loading tens of thousands of rounds on this press it was kind of cool to see how much faster this one little automated step made the entire process.

    good to know

Are you happy with the Auto primer system? I am having a heck of a time getting it to run right and not ingest a primer every so often <50 reloads. I took mine apart and noticed one of the plastic spring clips (6 total) was missing.....looks like a call to RCBS on Monday. Greeeaaat customer service IMO.

  11. AH HA! Is there a solution commercially available or do I need to fab one?

You could manufacture a "plug" similar to a shotgun magazine plug, install it and test for function. However, it must be permanently fitted to the magazine. Epoxy would work on the magazine base pad to tube connection....but you could never clean the tube or change the spring / follower after that. You might be better off just buying new 10 rnd. magazines from S_I.

I just took possession of a new Bar-Sto Precision .40, it came with the magazine base pad and "plug" riveted together...........I hope I never drop them in the mud........ :angry2: Short of an ultrasonic cleaner bath I don't see how I could clean them......

  12. A little dated from last post, but I'll tell you what I was told by Irv Stone from Bar-Sto.

I asked basicly the same question, How do I calculate the OAL for my BS40's chamber?

I was told, paraphrasing of course, "seat a bullet loosly in a non-primed expanded case, and insert it into the chamber manualy. Then push the slide forward until it locks, that will seat the bullet against the lands and into the case, remove cartridge and measure OAL. Then subtract .05 - .10 inches and your "good to go". "

Of course you will have to Chrono the round wth whatever powder you are using, start small and work up slowly.

This does not account for any magazine issues that may be encountered. Different story, with different problems and resolutions.

    Hope this helps someone,

    Ron

  13. I bought 1,000 Montana Gold 180 jhp to load while I wait for the PBs from Dave. Any load suggestions for a 5" BS with VV320?

OK, I ran a search and found lots of data on this combo. 1.175 - 1.20 seems to be the average length for a 2011 style with 4.7 - 5.2 grains of VV320

Edited because I know how to use the search function.......extensivly.....

  14. Hey, I just got off the phone with Dave from Precision bullets and yep, you all are right, he is a very nice guy to do business with.

Apologized several times for the long wait and was happy to take my order for a future production run of 185s. (ordered a case) thinkin' I shoulda ordered more...... This current production run of 185s (Thursday) is completely sold out......long ago. <_<

However, he told me that the next run should ship in about 10 weeks as of today for 185gr 40 cal. My new reloader is due to to arrive this week and it wants to be fed! Any suggestions on an alternative (reasonable prices please) bullets would be appreciated.

I am shooting a brand new Barsto 40 cal. that needs to be broken in properly. (shot alot) Same gun as Chad Allred, thanks Chad!

Do you recommend CMJs or plain lead for a break in? I'm thinkin' 500rnds or so. Will be using VV320 powder starting off weak loaded.
