  1. I just got a new Barsto BS40 pistol and the slide lock only works when I do it manually. I tried different magazines and they don't trigger the slide lock to lock automatically when pulling the slide all the way back.

    1. Is this to be expected on this gun?

    2. Is it defective?

    Thanks

    Allan

My BS40 came with a paper that indicated the slide will not lock back on the last round. It is intentional and can be corrected with an unmodified slide stop.

  2. I bought one in April of this year and other than some extractor tuning (brazzos tuned extractor fixed it right up, but Irv was more than willing to make it right) and break in it is now running 100% if the ammo is good. The chamber is super tight and if you use un-sized lead or moly especially (bear creek in my case) then they will not check in the the tube 100% of the time (a gauge is useless for this barrel, YMV). One of the bullseye guys was able to get a 5 shot 25yrd group of .675 center to center with it (ammo was 180gr MTG FMJ with 5.3 grs of Bullseye at 1.185 aol) It will feed factory ammo or loads at 10mm length. I changed the innards of the factory mag (STI with Arradondo 10 round plug with a rivet in the base to make Cali legal to Grams follower and spring).

The front sight notch is an odd size and none of the standards (Novak, Sti-SVI or Kimber would fit, had them on hand), Irv next dayed me a sight no questions asked. I needed it for a match that following weekend. He was more than willing to take the slide in and correct. He is easy to deal with and I'm buying an other one here shortly.

The key is that it is $1000 dollars less than the SVI here in Commiefornia and in it is already 40 and not a 45 that would need to go back to SVI to have a 40 slide and barrel fitted (that is the added cost with SVI nothing against them, they have great products and customer service as well.) Irv is a pleasure to deal with and builds a great trigger into the package with C&S fire control. If you are planning on L10 then the 45 from SVI might ne a good way to go but the price here in CA is about the same as the Bar-Sto.

Finally the most important part is that Bar-Sto is here in 29 Palms and Irv went that extra mile for those of us to can not escape to free states.

If you are low cal you are more than welcome to put mine to the test.

  3. I have run 30+k of the SP so far and have had no issues with them. They are virtualy identical to the WIN SP in performace and apperance. At 2/3 the cost of WIN what is not to like. I shoot them in an SP01 with a clipped 15lb main spring and have nerver had an ftf. My Barsto 40 seem to like them as well.

  4. AA7 is pretty slow for 45acp. It is most likely getting a real dirty burn since the presures are not up. I would think that a quicker burning powder would be better in the old war horse. Something like w231, Universal Clays, Clays etc..... you could try shorting to 1.200 to give your self a little more pressure and room for the fouling to collect but again I would say go to a faster powder.

  5. So if you have a gun that is rated safe to shoot +p, then it is reasonably safe to exceed max published loads by a small bit? Of course I'll 'work up' to it.

I have some 147gr Montana Gold CMJ RN. My manual lists starting load for TG and 147s to be 3.2gr and max is 3.6gr. I loaded up some rounds with 3.4gr, 3.6gr, and 3.8gr to test out (I've loaded some before at 3.4 that worked fine and were fairly mild, so I started there).

I don't want to blow myself up, or damage my gun. I just want some 9mm with a bit more juice for those steel plates and pins.

    Its a CZ SP01 BTW.

With relaoding an increase of powder charge does not equate to a linear progression in pressure especially when near max loads. I load a PD 147 fmj at 3.1 grs of TG for 890ish and that is PF of 130ish. Since you have to only make 125 pf I'm sure that the 3.6 gr load is in the 140 area and should be plenty for steel. I shoot an SP01 in IDPA and steel matchs and I don't have any issues with steel as long as I do my part.

  6. A +p designation is indicative of having a chamber pressure higher than standard(max). Not all rounds have a +p option. There is no recognized designation of +p+. If the round has an industry rating for +p it is usually a few K over standard maximum. All the published data that I have seen is inside of indusrty max and for +p data it is with in that standard as well according to the publisher. That is not to say that the load they got may not be over for your fire arm. Is the 147 you want to use jacketed or lead?

  7. I get 2-3 per 100. I use the u die and the FCD but the chamber in my BarSto 40 is really tight. Even factory ammo is not exactly ratteling around in there. The 2-3 that fail my chamber are fine in my friends stock STI barrel so it is not a faulire of the dies or brass in my case. Range pick up brass and MTG 165 FMJ's at 1.185. The leade is pretty big in the Barsto but the chamber is near min dimnesions.
